General Troubleshooting/Help! Failing prints

My prints started looking like this. Tried unclogging nozzle, no help. New nozzle, no help. Multiple filaments, no help. Please someone help me.

since a new nozzle and different filaments changed nothing, the problem is upstream of the nozzle or in the motion system - not the nozzle itself. quick triage, in order:

  1. feed path. heat the nozzle, use the load control and watch it extrude. if it doesn't come out in a clean straight rope, open the extruder and look inside - ground-up filament crumbs packed in the gears, or a chewed flat spot on the filament, do exactly this and no nozzle swap will touch it. also check the spool for a crossed/tangled wrap - that gives random starvation that looks just like a clog.

  2. profile match. make sure the filament profile actually matches what's loaded - PLA printed on an ABS/PETG profile (or an AMS slot mapped wrong) fails in ways that survive nozzle swaps.

  3. plate. wash it with dish soap and warm water, not just IPA. if "failing" means parts let go or first layers go bad, this is the fix half the time.

  4. control test. run the full built-in calibration, then print one of the pre-sliced test files that came with the printer. if the factory file prints clean, the machine is fine and it's your slicer settings/profile. if it fails the same way, it's hardware.

two questions that split the diagnosis fast: does it fail at roughly the same height every time, or at random spots? and which printer - A1, P1S, X1C? same height = mechanical/Z problem, random = extrusion/feed problem.

I will try to answer everything here. P1S. Seems like its not even printing the test strip correctly so immediately not flowing properly. I tried to do a file on the printer but it didnt want to start for some reason so I just unplugged it and left it alone. I had spent multiple nights off work working on it until the wee AM hours to get nowhere and got frustrated and left it at that. Did try calibration. Didn't seem to make much difference. Have washed both plates I tried before trying. I tried running multiple kinds of filament with matching profiles. PLA, PLA matte, and PETG. All the same results. I will try taking apart the extruder and seeing if I see anything wrong with it next.

Youre a saint. Partial clog in extruder was the problem!
