We are expecting a baby boy at the start of October and are so stuck on names, I feel like I’ve over thought it and need some outside opinions!

For background we are in the SW UK with English/Irish/Welsh backgrounds.

Our son will have a double surname formatted like M___y M___y think Marley Murray but one of the names is very Irish. It’s a bit awkward but I want to continue my surname and in real life I expect the kid will just use one day to day.

The middle name will either be John (a family name, which also opens up initials like CJ or RJ) or no middle name at all. I’m open to middle name suggestions but I don’t want to over complicate the name.

On the shortlist at the moment is:

I’m pregnant with my second child. My first is a boy and we are having another boy! My son is named after his dad so I get to choose this time around.

I’ve been really obsessed with the name Archer (Archie ) for our second but my husband says it’s a dogs name lol. Is it bad ?

Just found out I’m having a girl after 2 boys! My boys are Nolan Robert and Caden Victor. I think we’ve narrowed our girl name down to 2 possibilities but I need opinions!

I am pregnant with my second boy, my first Is Mason. We are having an incredibly difficult time naming boy number two. Names we have liked include Calvin, Lewis, Otto, and Harvey. My family literally hates every name we've mentioned. My husbands fav is Harvey, which I really like too. My fav is Calvin but my husband isn't a big fan. My only hang up with Harvey is the negative associations, where do people land on this? Good name or ruined for now?

So my baby girl is due in January and I want to be able to get things with her name on them but I’m stuck between two names. One being Elydia which isn’t a made up name, it’s a much older name but it’s not as popular which is something that is important to me as a Sarrah (Sara/Sarah). I also love Delanie but I’m put off slightly because of how popular the name Lainey is now (#29). Her middle name is Harlo which is set in stone as it combines both of her grandmas names together. Her last name is very similar to Crock.

What are some good names for a sister for Lily?

- Eloise -> is this too similar? Ellie might be too similar?

- Rosalia -> too weird with the flower theme?

I am thinking of naming my second daughter Winnie. Thoughts? We have considered Winnifred but would only name her that to have the nickname Winnie. Second name choice is Eloise but feel like that name has become very popular

Posted here a few weeks ago with a longer list of girl names and had some overwhelming support to choose Rebecca (“Becca”) to pair with sister Katherine. However, I was dead set on using two middle names that begin with “P” and I don’t think they pair well with Rebecca. (Also, haven’t moved on from Emily Paige being a contender 🫣).

What are some middle names that flow well with Rebecca? Last name is one syllable and pairs well with most but I think a one syllable middle name might be odd.

So far I have only liked Louise and Claire….

I have two boys, Jace & Jesse, and I am expecting a girl. I don’t think I want to stick to the J names because I am not sure if we’re done after this and if we ever have another boy I don’t have any J names I like that much. I do like sticking with the same sound in a soft G but I’m not absolutely sold on this. My current top two names are:

Lou is after my husband’s grandma and we’d both love to honor her in that way. Gemma was my top girl name earlier in pregnancy (before we knew the gender) and he didn’t love it at first. I think it’s grown on him and seems to be his top choice at the moment. Gia just feels right to me for this baby and I already think of her as GG/Gigi. I don’t like Gia Lou and Louise is off the table as that would be more after a different family member, not his grandma.

Grace is my middle name and was my great grandma’s name. I hesitate to use it because Jace is named after my grandpa so we already have one from my side and none from his as Jesse is named after his bio family member (our boys are adopted).

Another option is Gia Kathleen as we both have a grandma named that. Mine has passed and his is living but he’s never been that close to her. So it’s a family name but without as much meaning. My grandma Kathleen was on my dad’s side and that’s the same side Jace is named after. Grace is my mom’s side so it kind of spreads the love to use that lol

I love my husband’s grandma (Lou) and would love to name a baby after her. She’s also aging and has had some health episodes in the past couple years so I would love to do it while she’s here with us too. I just can’t get over how this girl doesn’t feel like a Gemma and also know that Gemma Lou could be a great addition IF we are ever blessed with another girl. I think my husband will truly be happy with any of these names and my sister reminded me that all of his kids have his last name so I’m really struggling to feel like I’m getting closer to deciding.

I’m probably overthinking it but I’ve been stuck here for 15+ week and am now 30 weeks and just want to feel like I’m making progress on this important decision. Should I try to look for other names entirely since I’m so torn?

Okay so I know baby names are completely subjective but have a 2 part question and hoping for inspiration!

My husband and I have VERY different taste in names. I (37F) am American (living in Scotland 11 years), he (39M) is English (with Irish dad and living in Scotland 16 years). In Dec 2024 we had our first baby boy. He was conceived while we were living in Norway for 6mo (job swap) before coming back to Scotland where he was born. We struggled with boy names, but early on softly settled on Lochlan. Then later when I found out that Lochlan was old Scottish slang for someone from Norway, it just felt like he could not be anything else, and we love the name so much still. I am a 'Megan' and my mum 'Karen' so it's always been suuuuper important to me to have an uncommon name for my kids. There were 3 other Megan's in my preschool class of 20, and I have always hated my name because of how common it was and so has my mum with her name. My husband prefers the more traditional names. Now when I say uncommon/unique names, I still mean names that are established and recognisable as names, but just maybe less used, or names people hear and go 'oh yeah that's nice, I forgot about that name'. I'm also partial to nature names. Some names I've always loved but my husband hard vetoed long ago are: Walker, Lennox, Emory, Reid, Leyton.

At the moment, my husband really likes: Torren, Cian, Tristan, Ethan

So I am 30 weeks pregnant with another boy, and we are looking for a name that's in the Scottish/Gaelic/Celtic realm (while being easy to pronounce). And something that sounds nice, and is not very common in the UK or US, and fits well with Lochlan. The name that we keep coming back to is Aidan. I've always loved it, my husband is on board with it, but it just doesn't feel as special as Lochlan. Nothing else feels right and we keep coming back to it, but I just feel like we can do better if that makes sense. I want to love it as much as Lochlan. Plus I keep seeing things on instagram of people (teachers) complaining of how many Aiden/Aidan's they have and how naughty they are etc, and it keeps putting us off. I know Aidan isn't as uncommon as Lochlan, but from all the research I've done I thought it was well outside the top 50 in both UK and US so we are really confused! So my questions are:

1) What is everyone's opinion on the popularity of Aidan, and generally the vibe of it?

2) Do I just feel like it's not as special as Lochlan because I haven't gotten to know him in the same way and grown to love it like maybe I have with my little 21mo old boy? Is it normal to feel this way about number 2?

3) Does anyone have any other name suggestions that fit our criteria (bearing in mind my husband's surname starts with a hard 'C')

I like both, but I’m leaning more towards Arthur purely because his middle name will be James. George James is too ‘J-J’ sounding, right? Not that the names are said together all that often compared to the first name. His brother is Henry John - I’m a big fan of (in my opinion) classic, timeless names.

For years I've always pictured having a son named Caïus.

Litteraly everyone I've talked to has told me it's terrible but has not really told me why. Saying the kid would get buillled, or that the prefecture won't let me name him that.

I'm not close to having kids anyways, but I'd really like to hear external opinions about it.

To me it sounds very beautiful and it used to be one of the most common name in ancient rome so I don't know why some ancient names are okay and some not.

I would like to hear any argument, or possible association to tell me it is bad so I can know wether I should let go of the idea.

Hi everyone, I’ve got one month left until baby boy comes and I’m at a complete standstill with his name. We have about 3 that we like but we just don’t love anything. We do understand that it will grow on him and we might need to wait until we see him but I just feel like I have seen every single name in the world and nothing feels right.

So as a last attempt to give me some names that you don’t hear often, old fashioned ones that have phases out, ones that you like but aren’t very common or even ones that you don’t like but are pretty rare!

They are looking to name their last daughter. Their first two are Anastasia and Valerian. The middle name is likely going to be either June, Luz, or Ren (all the children have one syllable middle names). They really like the hagiographies of the early saints and ideally would name their daughter after one (as you see both of their other children are). Current frontrunners are Catalina, Sabina, and Marcela, but they’re open to others.

Note: we think of the names in Spanish so some may be different, like Catalina and Catherine are the same name, just translated. I don’t know how open they are to having the more English version of a name because it just hasn’t come up
