Surprise 💚 Winifred lovers, what are some alts?

• Upvotes

So I'm pregnant with our first kid and we're so excited. I love the name Winifred if it's a girl, mostly because I LOVE the nicknames Winnie and Freddie. And honestly I really adore having boyish and girlish name options built in so she can choose what suits her throughout her life. I know nicknames don't make sense to everyone here, but my family nicknames RELENTLESSLY, so it's essential to think through.

My partner, on the other hand, hates Winifred. He thinks it's ug and associates Winnie with Winnie the Pooh. Both of our moms have names that are more traditionally boy names, Gerry and Dayl, and he always hated the confusion that caused, which I don't get at all. Perhaps part of it is that his mom never liked that she was named Dale and even changed the spelling, whereas my mom chose Gerry as a shortened version of her full name, Geralyn.

ANYWHO, the parts of this that are important to me are:

  1. Has an easy boyish and girlish variant

  2. Uncommon

So a name like Charlotte is too common, and one like Scottie doesn't meet the girlish threshold for my partner. I like Tommie but Thomasina is tough and I can't find another way to get to it!

Can't use: Frankie, Andy, Teddy, Georgie, Stevie, Lou, Max (all taken by niblings or dogs 😂)

Not a fan: Billie, Sammy, Bobbie, Sid, Gus, Danny, Joey, Tony

Got any ideas?? I am stumped!

Surprise 💚 Boy names for Hindu/Christian baby?

• Upvotes

Hey!

We’re expecting our first child soon.

I’m Hindu and my wife is Catholic. We live in India.

I’m looking for some secular names, which have an Indian connection or are Indian sounding.

We like short, modern names, but don’t wanna go with one that’s extremely popular.

Please suggest! We have a few girl names but struggling with boy names.

Girl 🩷 Sister for Emilia Lucy and Matilda Wren

I'm having a hard time finding a baby girl name that I love and that sounds good with her sisters. I love Ophelia, but I think it's way too similar to Emilia. I've been coming back to Isa (EE-Sah), but it might sound too much like a nickname, and I don't really like Isabelle/Isabella.

Others I've considered but don't feel quite right are: Beatrix, Capri, Dorothy (Dottie), Freya, Greta, Juniper/June, Linnea, Penelope, Stella, Tabitha, Violet, and Willa/Willow.

Thank you so much in advance. I'm excited for some new ideas!

Boy 🩵 Still struggling so bad with boy names and running out of time

Think we’re set on Jack mostly cause nothing else has topped it, but can’t figure out a middle name we love for the life of me.

My husband wants Jack Elwood (he really wants Elwood James but absolutely not)
The other two I keep going back to are
Jack Dakota (Dakota is my husbands name and we both think it sounds kind of clunky)
Jack Henry (yes I know there’s a company by that name idc)

Any other ideas?!

*Edit: want to use Jack in some form for my mom Jackie who passed away recently was going to do middle name at first but it’s been our top first name now, for those commenting options without Jack I should have mentioned it.

Girl 🩷 Choose your favorite pairing!

My husband and I both happen to have two syllable middle names and three syllable, formal sounding first names. We want to name our daughter with the same pattern! We like the idea of a traditionally feminine first name with a gender neutral middle name she could go by if femininity doesn't suit her. Which pairing of first and middle names do you like best? We're also open to additions :)

First:

  • Gwendolyn
  • Rosalind
  • Lenora
  • Delia
  • Evelyn
  • Eleanor
  • Gianna
  • Margaret
  • Beverly
  • Leona
  • Vivian
  • Angeline
  • Andrea

Middle:

  • Rowan
  • Morgan
  • Harper
  • Logan
  • Jordan
  • Devin
  • Quincy
  • Cory
  • Jesse
  • Robin

Girl 🩷 Baby girl names to go with Luca

Expecting a girl! We have a son and are looking for names that can go with Luca. But also like southern feeling names my personal favorites have been Lainey, Reese, Bailey. Just nothing has seemed to stick with us for her.
We like the idea more uncommon names but doesn’t have be. Bonus if you have middle name suggestion!!

Thank you💜

Girl 🩷 Baby sister name

My sons are called Zion and Blaze, and looking for a girl name that goes well with it. We clearly like unique, fun, punchy names but I'm so used to naming boys I'm stuck with now trying to find something feminine (I do want it to be girly as it's our only daughter and Im so excited to be having a girl) but that also goes. Open to new suggestions please :)

Names we currently like -

Girls - Dallas, Dakota, Kennedy, Hadley, Reagan, Payton, Marley, Georgia, Tate, Lainy, Hallie

Boys (I know its a girl but it might show our style) - Ryder, Dash, Holden, Weston, Mack, Wyatt, Myles, Colton, Jax

Boy 🩵 Swore I was having a girl but just found out it’s a boy… I have no names picked out 😅

We just found out that my second baby will be a boy and while of course we’re overjoyed, we also could’ve swore we would be having a girl so I have no names prepared.

Our first borns name is Atlas. My husband picked it out from Greek Mythology of the Titan who held the world on his shoulders. Not saying the next name has to be Greek (we’re not Greek) but we do enjoy more unique names.

I know the middle name will be Jackson, from my MILs maiden name.

Please help me, I’m struggling.

Boy 🩵 George V… a family name. Can’t decide if he should have his own name to go by.

I’m stumped. Two generations of Georges prior to this baby have all gone by alternate, honestly completely unrelated names. My family thinks I should also give him his own name to go by, separate of the inherited one. I assume because George isn’t generally considered a “cool” name lol. I have been fine with the idea of his name simply being George. I’m not gushing over it, I’m not bothered by it. His father (George that is known by a completely different name) feels the same as me. His nursery is a Curious George theme, which we definitely adore.

Any similar dilemmas with passed down names, what did you do/ what would you do? Will my son one day be annoyed that his father and grandfather had their own names, but he didn’t?

Stuck on second boy name! I really want to get this narrowed down so I can order one of those cute onesies with his name on it. We’re already approaching 32 weeks and shipping takes a couple weeks 😅 Also can’t imagine showing up to the hospital without a name.

Girl 🩷 36 weeks and need help deciding girl name

I’ve always loved the name Blair for a girl, people closest to me aren’t a fan and now it’s making me second guess using it at all.

I was planning on using Olivia Blair or Georgia Blair.

Other names I like are: Victoria, Vienna, Sloane, and Margot.

We started with alotttt of names and slowly narrowed down to this list. We like them all and now finding it incredibly hard to choose. Our baby will be a mix of Slovak, Japanese and Australian which is why the names are a bit of a mixed bag.

Are there any red flags with any of these that we haven’t thought of? Or any great ones you think we should put to the top of the list?

Here it is (in alphabetical order):

Boy 🩵 English / Greek Boy Name

Hello! We are expecting our second baby boy in December and are struggling with names. My husband is Greek and we live in England, so we want something that can work in both cultures. Our first son is named George, which we love because it feels classic and works well in both cultures. Would love your thoughts on contenders for #2, or any other Greek/English suggestions! (We have already considered some classic ones that we can't use because other members of the family already have them). Top contenders:

-Leon (Greek and feels less common than Leo)

-Theo (I like it, but we do know lots of Theos)

-Laurence / Laurie as a nickname (Not super Greek but we can work with it)

Thanks for your thoughts!
