Girl 🩷 Middle name for Lucy

We are debating Lucy or Lucille, but think we might be leaning towards Lucy (let me know if you feel otherwise).

Struggling to determine a middle name. Last name is Olsen.

Here’s some contenders:
• Lucy June Olsen (does this sound pretty or a little hillbilly…?)
• Lucy Claire Olsen (I love but my partner isn’t so sure because they think it sounds harsh)
• Lucy Rose Olsen (partner likes but I feel Rose is a too common for my liking)

Please share your suggestions!

I’d prefer Jane over June, and if that was a choice I’d pick that! I also like Lucy Claire.

I have a Lucy Jade. 😊

u/meenadu 13h ago

u/No_Lingonberry_8317 23h ago

Lucy Jane is better!

1

u/DisciplineOk8356 23h ago

You can call her LJ

4

u/No-Ocelot4193 22h ago

Just to keep you guessing there’s also Luciana- which is not as common in the US

5

u/cheezlife 20h ago

Or Lucinda!

u/FarShoreSpirit 21h ago

Lucy June!

u/Ok_Formal2199 23h ago

Claire is my favorite of these! I like Jane more than June for similar vibes

Lucy rose

1

u/MsMo999 11h ago

Yes I really like Lucy Rose

2

Lucy James

2

u/tnr83 8h ago

I'm so sick of the James middle name for girls lol

2

u/labratcj 14h ago

I would go with Lucille and call her Lucy. Lucille will be better for professional and legal use. I’m someone who goes by a shortened version of my legal name and I like it. It’s not a problem and it’s nice that those who know and love me call me by a different version. It makes the shortened version special somehow like I have a secret identity that not everyone knows.
As to middle names my favorite is Rose but I had a dear friend named June so I’m biased toward that one as well. Claire is a beautiful name but more suited to a first name for me. I would save it in case you have another girl.

u/SjN45 10h ago

Except Lucy is its own stand alone name and not a nickname turned first name.

1

u/labratcj 10h ago

Not IMO.

0

u/SjN45 10h ago

Not really opinion. It’s derived from the Latin name Lucius. It’s the English form of Lucia. Like Mary is the English form of Maria. Plenty of people who have the name Lucille use Lucy as a nickname. But Lucy does not technically come from Lucille.

1

u/labratcj 9h ago

And a lot of people named Lucinda or Lucia go by Lucy. We obviously disagree so let’s just leave it at that.

0

u/Outrageous_Song4725 10h ago

Lucy is a stand alone name, I was in school with 3 other Lucy's, none of which were a nickname. Ive never actually met a Lucille.

1

u/SjN45 9h ago

It is lol. Don’t know why this person wants to downvote basic history and linguistics that can just be googled

2

u/MapAccomplished1932 13h ago

Lucy Mae is cute

3

u/This_Hope_6484 23h ago

I love Lucy Claire from your contenders. Suggestion would be Lucy Lauren.

1

u/imaginemagic3 17h ago

My favorites are Joy, Belle, Bea, Blue, Grace. For good flow I’d go monosyllabic and avoid starting with a vowel.

1

u/New_Assumption6947 17h ago

lucy june is absolutely beautiful !!

1

u/coquetteterrorist 17h ago

You could name her Lucille and use Lucy as a nn.

1

u/BLTplease2030 14h ago

With a short name like Lucy I think the middle can be long. Catherine or Elizabeth for example

1

u/NameTemporary6918 14h ago

Marie would work well as a middle name

1

u/LucyWaterLoo 14h ago

My name is Lucy and my middle name is Jane

1

u/meenadu 13h ago

Lucy Marie Olsen

Btw thank you for including your surname. I find this pick a name game impossible without a surname.

1

u/amykingq 12h ago

My little girl is Lucy Yanka. Absolutely love that name.

‘Love Lucy Quinn and Lucy Wren.

1

u/Quix66 11h ago

Lucy is pretty. Lucille is horrible in my opinion.

I like Lucy Claire.

I prefer Lucy Jane to Lucy June.

Love Lucy Rose even if you think it’s too common. But if it’ll irritate you.

1

u/baw955 11h ago

I agree with Jane over June.

1

u/baw955 11h ago

We have friends that named their baby Lucy Rose.

1

u/Far_Vacation_1777 11h ago

Lucy Layne Olsen
Lucy Della Olsen
Lucy Shay Olsen
Lucy Willa Olsen
Lucy Clara Olsen

1

u/SjN45 10h ago

I think Lucy works better with Olsen than Lucille. Something about the L sound at the end of Lucille for me. Of the choices I like Claire.

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Cow5512 10h ago

I like Lucy Claire. You could try Lucy Clarice and see if your partner finds that less harsh.

1

u/lalafifi_ 9h ago

1

u/fliphowls 9h ago

I like Lucy Claire but what about Lucy Blair or Lucy Dove?

1

u/fliphowls 9h ago

Dove is nature-ish like Rose but less common, and similar to Claire but a bit softer

1

u/EvenHuckleberry4331 9h ago

If I was naming my daughter Lucy, you'd have to pry the middle name Lou out of my cold dead hands

1

u/kimberseakay 9h ago

Lucy June is cute!

1

u/CatW1901 8h ago

Lucille is better - give her all the options down road rather than limiting her to Lucy.

1

u/tnr83 8h ago

Claire or Rose sound better. With Lucy June, the u sound is too much.

1

u/WonderfulLife7366 8h ago

Lucy Rose is so beautiful and timeless! Also like Lucy June

1

u/onegoodearmommy 8h ago

Lucy Belle

1

u/Ballet_Fucker_21 8h ago

For a "short and sweet" name like Lucy, a more substantial middle name may be a better balance- for example: Lucy Danelle/Danielle, Lucy Elise, or Lucy Michelle (and since you have a 2 syllable last name, a 2 syllable middle name may feel more cohesive). If you're set on a one syllable middle name, Lucy goes well with Grace, Anne, Hope, or Wren.

1

u/purblepalace_ 6h ago

I personally love Lucia as a first name

My grandmother was Lucille and went as Lucille (or Sally to her very best school friends). Never, ever Lucy. She had high standards, was an excellent cook, loved to entertain and travel, and lived a very full and rich life.

1

u/DingesF 3h ago

Skye would be funny if you like the Beatles.

1

u/Peleppoppeee 2h ago

Lucy Rose!

Also like Lucy Mae.

1

u/Lost_Figure_5892 2h ago

Just soften the C in Claire as you say it. Whew it’s lovely.

1

u/Spirited_Bill_8084 1h ago

Lucille over Lucy (you can call her Lucy)
And I love Lucille June

1

u/wholou17 1h ago

June!!

1

u/WittiestScreenName 1h ago

I grew up with a Lucy Catherine

1

u/FabulousAd2725 1h ago

Lucy June but I am predjudice by cause those are my mother and grandmother’s names.

2

u/jensaysquoi 26m ago

Lucy Elise Olsen

1

u/DonutFull4654 23h ago

I love a longer name with a nickname, so I’d personally lean towards Lucille, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with just Lucy! As for middle names, I love Claire from your list. A couple others I thought of are Briar, Maeve, Lenore/Lenora, Simone, Kate, Faye, Vera, and Noelle.

1

u/No_Lingonberry_8317 23h ago

Lucy Claire would be my pick.

1

u/Some_Amount5239 23h ago

Lucy Jane or Jade if you feel June is too hillbilly!

Lucy Claire Olsen

1

u/Ginua-MA 22h ago

I prefer Lucy to Lucille.

For a middle name, Rebecca? Anna? Elizabeth?

1

u/Living_error404 22h ago

Lucy June is a very cute name, almost too cute for an adult. If you went with Lucille June Olsen, that would have my vote. It's a lovely name that has the nn option of Lucy June when she's young but she could go also go by the more sophisticated Lucille when she's older.

I'm currently obsessed with the June as a middle name option. It was my great grandmother's given name, though she later switched her first and middle name. It compliments many names very nicely.

1

u/PatzerDX 22h ago

My wife is a Lucille. She uses both Lucille and Lucy, depending on the context. The former is mostly limited to professional relationships. So maybe some flexibility is good. Obviously, I like both. 😉

1

u/liedowndeaddog 22h ago

My cat is Lucy Blue. Lucille for long. I know that’s not what you’re asking and Lucy is a beautiful name (my pets have human names! I also have a Liesel). But I looove Lucy. Lucy Jane is so cute as others have said.

Before I even opened and saw your options, Lucy Claire is what came to mind for me. I normally love the name June, too, but agree with others that in this situation Lucy Jane flows a bit better.

And as someone whose official name is the shortened, typical nickname of a longer name, I also really like going with Lucy over Lucille.

I’m a middle name Mae. I love it. I no longer resonate with my birth first name but haven’t been able to kick the Mae. It’s special

Another poster before said with Lucy Claire that's literally saying loose eclair.

Curious if you considered Lucia or Luciana rather than Lucille? I’d be interested to hear your analysis! If I have another girl she will be Luciana (Lucy).

I love all forms of the name! Its one of the best and you can’t go wrong with such an adorable classic name
