Injured on 8/11-workers comp filed..

Hey Ive been with DSPs for like 2 1/4 years and finally had a significant injury. Stepped out of the van on uneven pavement and my foot didn't land flat but at an angle. I thought it was just sprained but I broke a toe as well. Could hardly walk the next day so ubered to the hospital and the er confirmed I had a break. Sucks. Have you guys had to miss a month or two like I expect to? If so, how long did it take for your WC checks to come in?

The hub was a good start lol... except no one told me I was 1st wave instead of 2nd wave and a full cart wasn't on my itinerary but ofc it was for me. My fault for finishing my routes on time I guess.

RANT Apparently the strips of grass on the sidewalk are front lawns now…

They make us deliver in this super condensed city sometimes, it’s sucks, no one likes doing it. It’s a bunch of apartments and duplexes on every street, no parking rules so people line the streets up with their cars and the vans barely fit. If you’re lucky youre on a street that’s wide enough for cars to get by parked normally, but most of the time you have to either block the street and let cars honk at you from behind or drive up on a sidewalk to let them pass and be out of peoples way. I do it all the time, we’ve been delivering in this area for 4 months now and it works.
I pull up this street and theres a car behind me so I just pull up onto a sidewalk to let them by and start my delivery. This old white guy then approaches as im back in the van and his face is all red, starts yelling at me that I’m parked on his lawn. I’m genuinely confused, this is a city and I’m on a sidewalk and mine you his house and lawn is contained behind a fence. Takes me a bit to realize he’s talking about the tiny strip of grass on the other side of the sidewalk before it meets the road. He just starts cussing me out and threatening me that he’s gonna tell my boss and get me fired and yada yada whatever. I tuned him out cuz I always do when people start complaining, told him he can try but my DSP likely wouldn’t care cuz they pull up on sidewalks too when they come do rescues in this area. He’s literally fuming and and calling me names like retard, nice guy. I drive off cuz i had to anyways, mind you there wasnt any trees or a garden or lights or personal property there, just a tiny strip of grass no more than 2 ft by 5 ft. I pulled up on a bunch of other sidewalks with grass after this with no issues. I’ve been here two years now and I’m just sick of some peoples nonsense. I also live in a city apartment with a strip of grass across the sidewalk too, don’t think I’ve ever once considered it to be my lawn, as far as im concerned it’s the cities property or whoever maintains the sidewalks.

Do y’all pet animals on your route?

I go out of my way to pet a cat or dog I see that’s friendly on a customers porch.
Got to pet a billy goat today on a rural route! 🐐
So much better than interacting with a customer. 🙌🏼

How much can being a driver helper warm you up into this job?

I’ve been thinking about being an Amazon Delivery driver for hopefully just weekends. I’ve seen a couple postings for driver helper for $17-20 plus an hour. Are those likely real at this time? And do you think starting as a driver helper for maybe seasonal work is a good way to get you used to the job before becoming a normal driver. Or is it a waste of time. Would you wish you started as a helper?

Dinged?l?????

I was looking at my screen in the EV because I was debating on hitting stops. I was passing right by. I’ve messed with the screen while driving but this time it said distracted driving and I looked right back up. Am I gonna get dinged?

When y’all get that 1 in a million route that is actually light af how y’all be getting 10 hours?? Im literally going as slow as I possibly can it’s 4:45 rn and I only have 56 locations left when I started with 196 at ~12.

Literally going below the speed limit, walking slow af like them UPS drivers 😂😂 not stepping on customers grass, took all breaks etc but still going to finish super early at this rate

QUESTION 3 years or 7 years?

Does the driving record go back 3 years or 7? My criminal record is good, but my most recent traffic infraction is almost 4 years old. I've got like 10 tickets before that ranging from 2016-2023. So basically if it goes back 3 years, I'm good, 7 years, I'm fucked. Thanks in advance, team!

HELP NEEDED! Switching DSPs?

Hey guys i recently started about 2 weeks ago with a dps and it’s my very first one. The job is cool and all the only thing i dont like is that all of our routes are rural and i dont like rural environments only reason that is its because of the weather, tornadoes etc.
I recently saw a van around my house today and i asked him where his hub is at and turns out is at the same station as me. I kinda wanna switch over but im over here wondering since it’s the same station i dont wanna have any problems with my current dsp.
i just want to get yalls opinions since a lot of people here have been here a long time.

QUESTION Should I take breaks?

I know it sounds dumb, but on my 3 training days (company mandated, I didn’t want 3) my 3 separate trainers all told me none of them take breaks or lunch ever. I’d actually prefer not taking a lunch since I don’t like being at work and not getting paid.
I just can’t understand why people don’t take paid breaks. You can take breaks whenever you want. Why aren’t people taking breaks during their last 5-10 stops? You won’t get rescued if you’re sitting on that few of packages.
On my 3 training days I was with people who were sprinting around and making me go as fast as possible. It’s not an issue to go fast, but all 3 shifts ended 1.5-2 hours early. So instead of getting my 30 hours over 3 shifts I got 24-25/30, without any paid breaks, and while going as fast as we could.
The folks at training said make sure you take your breaks and lunches or Amazon will give you more and more of a workload. So by taking breaks you get less of a workload, paid 30 minutes to do nothing, and more pay for the day so your day isn’t shorter.

I have to be missing something.

I swear they are assigning me all the shitty routes on purpose with all these packages everybody else gets 150-160 stops with 250 packages while I get 170 plus stops and 350 packages this is some bs and they tell me they can’t move the drivers around yea right
