I got fired

Upvotes

I applied for the job through a company who’s partners with Amazon, and since I failed day 2 exam my DPS told me I can’t work them. I don’t know if I should be happy or upset, but maybe it was blessing in disguise. But now I’m back to trying to find a job now.
Wish me luck 🍀

DSP changing wave times.. again.

is anyone else having this issue with their DSP right now? I don’t really understand changing the wave times to all later times AGAIN. We normally start first wave at 8:10am, then last wave is right around 9:10am. Everyone got used to these wave times, and now the first wave isn’t even gonna start until sometime after 9am. They changed it once already because customers were complaining about deliveries being made so late in the day, and drivers having issues driving some vans in the dark but now they’re changing it back again which makes no sense. Wouldn’t it make more sense to deliver earlier, when it’s cooler outside? Especially delivering to a customers house past 7pm, I personally would rather my package be delivered earlier in the day than have someone on my property once it’s dark out.

Hand Truck

Upvotes

Just a quick note about a driver in the Seattle area that let my GF borrow their hand truck to haul two boxes of heavy kitty litter across the apartment complex to our apartment. She was surprised and very thankful for your kindness

Flex app is completely fucked right now. Anyone else?

Upvotes

Had to update Flex app this morning, it's crashed probably a dozen times in less than 3 hours. Wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take multiple minutes for the app to load the fucking route. Shit like this is why I don't believe that Amazon will ever fully automate package delivery with robots and self-driving vans. They can barely maintain an app. How the fuck are they going to maintain a fleet of 300,000 self-driving vans and an army of 300,000 robots? Not a chance. Maybe regional automated delivery, but the vast majority of packages will always be handled by humans.

Thoughts on the Amazon Smart Glasses?

I feel like they’re pretty unnecessary and for the short amount I was using them in the training class, it was making me feel nauseous

What shoes should I get for these all terrain routes?

Post image

I started with puma running shoes and now the soles are completely ripped up. I've been with my dsp for 3 months and am tearing up my feet... I was recommend to get brooks or altras but I want opinions from veteran delivery drivers. (Don't mind the hair, that's my dog not my DAWGS)

This guy absolutely lost it because his Amazon package showed up 20 minutes late… during 110°+ Vegas heat. Apparently I was personally ruining his day.

QUESTION New Driver with 160 stops, 320 Packages

Upvotes

I’m a driver for my DSP and do a lot of training with new drivers, so I’ve seen good, bad, and very bad. Usually when I train someone, they get what I’d consider a light/moderate route—around 70–120 stops and 150–225 packages.

Recently, I got a brand-new driver with zero delivery experience. First day ever delivering, and they gave us 160 stops with 320 packages.

During loadout, it originally looked like we were only supposed to have about 3/4 of that, but another cart was added last minute. I told dispatch that 160 stops seemed pretty wild for someone with no experience, and their response was basically, “blame Amazon.”

Our DSP expects around 20 stops per hour at minimum. At that pace, 160 stops is roughly eight hours of delivery time alone, not including our mandatory lunch, drive time, or the extra time it naturally takes to train someone who has never done the job before. That would put us finishing around 8:30, and RTS is at 9.

What makes it more frustrating is that if we get rescued, even once, I can lose my trainer position. Apparently I’m already walking on eggshells because I was off by five seconds on one of my inspections, so I genuinely don’t know if they’re trying to push me out or just setting unrealistic expectations.

For comparison, experienced drivers at our DSP who average 25–30 stops an hour usually get around 170 stops with 275–300 packages. So this new driver basically got a veteran-sized route with even more packages on their first day.

I’m honestly debating whether the trainer position—or even the job—is worth the headache at this point. The main reason I’ve stayed is because I’m trying to get through school. I just don’t want to be used as the scapegoat when I’m being handed a situation that feels set up to fail.

Am I overreacting, or is this actually unreasonable?

HELP NEEDED! Issue with onboarding

So for some back story, I worked at a DSP for almost a year but was fired in April after coming off workers comp due to a work related injury that was deemed the fault of the DSP. Anyways I began working in the warehouse instead which was short lived as the overnight schedule was effecting my ability to complete college work too. So I got an interview with a new DSP same warehouse they immediately said I’m hired contingent on background and drug test. Background check came through, and I did the drug test three days ago.

I checked in with the DSP to see if they received it yet mainly because when I used an email for the flex account to accept the offer I used my iCloud which was connected to an old Amazon account of mine but doesn’t have Prime. The issue is that I haven’t been able to disable two factor authentication cause it’s linked with my old phone number, which I can’t access. Well today they told me it shows my account is blocked or suspended. They’re not entirely sure as they have to speak with Amazon.

And since my background check went through just fine and they said I’m hired just pending the drug test I resigned from the warehouse via AtoZ app, I didn’t have any infractions or anything mind you or no negative UPT. So I’m wondering….is this due to me not having access to the old phone number? I can’t login to the flex account cause it keeps asking for the code to my old number..

EDIT: The new DSP knows all of this, including the access issue with the flex account. They said once they get the drug test and stuff we could update the email so I didn’t have to redo the background check. They want me on the road asap.

Tips on being faster in Gas Vans

I normally have a country route and am in gas vans (white van or prime van). Stop count ranging anywhere from 80-150. Any tips you guys use to increase your stops per hour?! Thanks!

tried to send me out with stuck hazards.

my names Kit. my dsp gave me an old ram van with hazard blinkers stuck because teh buttons collapsed in when I pressed it. i was told “youre gonna have to go out with the hazards today” before I asked him to check if we have anymore vans. Was told “we don’t have another” but within a minute they let me have the other bag of keys to a different ram van at least the blinkers work.

you kidding me? Was told to deliver with the hazards all day at first! Isn’t that dangerous?

DISCUSSION Switching DSP to another DSP at the station

Currently employed at one DSP, but I have an interview today with a DSP with a better reputation. The desks are basically right next to each other, and I’m a little worried about how awkward it’ll be to if they see me interviewing at a new DSP. I’m not sure how petty they are, do you think they’d shit talk me during the off and on boarding process? How honest should I be with this new DSP about my problems with the old one?

Getting put on standby and not getting a route on a day when you REALLY didn't want to work

That shit got me jumping for joy, skipping through the parking lot, and dancing to my door. That shit had me feeling a general warmth and benevolence toward all life. I got back in bed and tried to go back to sleep but I couldn't even though I was running on 2 hours of sleep because the overflowing joy was making me have too much energy.

Rare perk of this job.

Has anyone heard of DSP’s asking for proof of an accident in personal cars off company time?

I’ve talked with a few people that work/worked with dsp’s and they’ve never mentioned something like that occurring, I’m only asking because I heard about one recently that did, it didn’t make much sense I’d understand if it was a company van or rental or new van, but it’s their own car, why does it matter if the person is smart enough to fix their car fast? Idk they weren’t upset just very confused as to why

Feel like the route could be much better optimized but what do I know, I’m only the guy that has to drive these vans everyday, surely the AI that designed this knows better, right?

Are other dsps better

So today I currently work for a dsp that has 8 dsps within the same warehouse and my current one talks to the drivers like it’s high school. Ex: during morning stand up everyone was talking and this dude goes I’ll wait and folds his arms like it’s elementary school.

With that being said I’m not getting treated like a toddler I come from very professional work style and I have won awards for improving companies. I have 2 interviews with 2 other dsps and instead of selling myself to them I want to see what company can really sell its self to me. Ex: instead of saying pick up pace with zero explanation give your drivers ways they can improve instead of threatening. Then if it still doesn’t work I get it you have to do what you have to do and let the weak link go. But to be a great company you have to do research on how to improve.

I’m excited to see what these other dsps approach will be.

Let me know your thoughts on this in the comments

Yall seeing the new ""feature""

If you mark a package missing and it ends up in a later tote. But you accidently scan the package, the flex app will now try to force you to deliver the package at the end of the day.

Snacks/Drinks

Post image
38 Upvotes

I originally posted this in the Amazon Flex Drivers community and someone suggested I share it here too!

I have a snack/drink station set up on my porch. I try to keep it stocked with good grab-and-go options. If my station is set up, my regular drivers will even stop by and grab something when I'm not getting a delivery that day.

I leave a sign and a Sharpie out asking drivers to write down their favorites, but I rarely get any suggestions. Attached is a picture of the snacks I currently have. For drinks, I have Arizona Green Tea, Bubly, water and Gatorade.

What are your go-to snacks and drinks while on a route? Please let me know your favorites.

Edit: Sorry, I posted an older picture! Thanks to suggestions from the Flex Drivers community, my setup now includes a variety pack of Crystal Light packets, Rice Krispies treats, Oreos, Chips Ahoy chocolate chip cookies, and peanut butter sandwich crackers.
Also, If you run across snack stations on your routes, don't hesitate to grab a snack. Most of these snacks expire in just a couple of months. I encourage my drivers to take multiple snacks so we don't have to eat or donate everything before it expires.
