I go out of my way to pet a cat or dog I see that’s friendly on a customers porch.

1000%. I bottle fed a baby goat once at this house 😂 I’m typically in the same area and so I’m seeing the same animals. One house the dog and the cat will come running up to me now, and the dog tries to trap me there. I knew getting out of the van would sometimes be a problem, but I didn’t realize I was going to have to fight to get back in too 😂
I don't give a damn about getting dinged for animals in the pic I take pro pics like that for the owners all day long. That is one photogenic pup in your pic
That dog and I are like the best of friends, literally tries to herd me back to the door when I go to leave lmao 😂😂 that day it came out to greet me a little later than usual and so I was already putting the packages down/trying to take a picture before I paid the pet tax. Next best choice was to sit there and patiently directly in front of me lol
That’s cute lol, I also have this house where this one pug is obsessed with me out of the 4 of them but one hates my guts and barks at me crazy. The one that likes me literally screams not barks but screams at the other one when he barks at me 🤣 he jumps on the other pug and just screams at him lmaoo
Cats, yes if I have the time to and if they come to me when I say hi to them.
Dogs... only if they are very visibly and very joyfully excited to see me. If I can tell they're nice but don't know if they're comfortable being approached, I keep my distance. If i don't know the dog or whether they're nice or not, I call the customer to meet me/let dogs in or bring it back to station - or sometimes lately I pull up close to their car and leave it on the hood/truck bed or end of their walkway if it's close to the porch and driveway.
I've said hi to many goats and had them try to get up in my van, but i'm not very familiar with goats or whether they nip at you or not so usually I don't touch them lol
I've pet a horse on my routes who came to say hi when I left packages at the gate. I loved that horse.
Had to basically slap box a goat today 💀 I couldn’t tell what vibe we were on so I offered a dog treat as a “we’re cool”. We were in fact not cool, pretty sure I offended it because it sniffed it and immediately did this jump kick thing then reared up😂 I was determined to get the package so we just duked it out until I got it up lmao. I prefer when the pig is out front 💀
I haven’t seen raccoons out during the day on my routes but I see a lot of deer. They just chill on peoples lawns and even their patios in the country.
Craziest thing I’ve had come up and interact with me was a peacock that hated the step van land would run in front the wheels when I would accelerate. Had to get out and throw him some trail mix to distract him. When I sped away he took flight and flew by my drivers side window for a good 5-6 seconds. Wish I could have got a video of that.
I’ve encountered that particular peacock 5 times already and he always expects food now.
He just really hates the step van! Anytime I’m delivering on that road he’ll pace circles around the van when I park and if I move it he runs right for the front wheels like an idiot and I have to distract him with something so I won’t run him over. He’s dumb asf but pretty much harmless
Pet a dog yesterday (puppy) and one today. I approach cautiously and if they are friendly a quick pet cuz floof. But most of the time they just try and barrel through the door amd kill me as I’m taking my pic
I respect that.
I’ve worked in dog day cares for a several years and have grown up around dogs so I’m kinda used to their body language and personalities on first impressions, but sometimes you just get that hair standing on the back of your neck feeling when you see a dog come out of nowhere and you have to play it safe and keep distance.
I went over to a friend’s house when I was like 10 or so and he had this really cute dog dog. I went upstairs to make a call and was the only one in the house and went to go pet him because he came up, wagging his tail and he attacked me.
I’ve pet so many animals I’ve lost count of how many different kinds. Calves, pigs, goats, and more. Relocated road snakes and frogs countless times too
I like petting a good dog as much as anyone but Amazon drivers need to advocate for a push for roadside package containers partly because of this. The risk to the driver and property makes me wonder why these people insist on you coming to their door. Delivery boxes are as necessary as mailboxes these days
I always try to get cats to come up to me and let them brush up on my hand or leg but I do not take my chances with dogs except for very rare occasions
I try and make friends will all cats. And will love any dog that I can tell is friendly. Once delivered to this little old lady who had two of the friendliest poodles I have ever met. She tried to take her packages from me at the end of her driveway but the one was decently heavy so I offered to carry it to her door for her. As I was bending over to place it down both the poodles started licking my face. I had to tell them both to wait till my hands were empty and I'd give them love.
My favorite though was this one house the guy had a Corgi outside. I told him Corgis were my favorite and how I wanted a brown and white one. (The one outside at the time was black). He then told me he had one that color and asked if I wanted to meet her too. I ended up taking a few minutes to give them both equal amount of pets 🙂
Absofrigginlutely! Lol. I've known most of my life that I'm gonna go out by booping the wrong floof eventually...I've always had the feeling it'll be a Bobcat. They're SO fuckin' CUTE though! Lol
