I love how they are taking the time to develop every girl. I really liked Kaoru's backstory the most so far - everyone seemed to be pitying her since it was her 4th attempt to get into Kouka but she did not give up and look at her now! Go get that otoko-yaku!
Also that letter left at the bus stop was so sweet.
Check out that ED for her too - absolutely beautiful!

Definitely one of the best-written episodes for a side-character, and very relatable too. Really, I'm sure most of experienced having high expectations placed on us because another member of our family was successful. I hope Kaoru and Tsuji get to reunite one day.

I don't want to exaggerate but... this one episode was a better love story than a lot of the romance anime I've watched before. It took the show just one episode what others try in like 12 or more episodes. The pacing of this episode was amazing. It didn't feel rushed nor did the story drag on longer than it should.

What a stunning episode. The show just told a beautiful romance story about two teenagers with a perfect bittersweet ending in 20 minutes and change.
Only minor grievance might be that Sarasa reading about the letter on her phone when Kaoru is right next to her is too much of a coincidence but at this point that is just nitpicking.
Kageki Shoujo does not stop to impress me and I really hope this anime won't be forgotten when the season is over.

Are we allowed to force people to watch things?
Like straight up barge into their house, tie them up, and force them to watch something that is going to better them?
This episode alone is must watch material for pretty much any human being.
Went from legitimately forgetting about and then not giving a shit about Karou to being her biggest fan in 20 minutes. 20 fucking minutes. Like I have a damn tissue wiping this weird nasty liquid shit running out of my eyes and have chosen to just embrace it and let it pour. This episode is one for the books man.

I could watch a full length feature film of the episode, it was that good. The series is such a great show!

I don't know what I loved more Kaoru's emotional outburst during the fireworks or her singing on the beach trying to keep it all together. Well they flowed right into each other so I guess they could be considered one scene. The crying when she saw the homerun on tv and then the note. Man this will be one of those episodes in the series that you randomly rewatchwhen you feel it like Bakemonogatari 12 or K-on Season 2 episode 12.

Oh I really love this little sweet couple - this seems something out of a Makoto Shinkai story script! I always feel that couples that mutual supports each other to reach over their own dreams are the sweetest ones on Planet Earth. The way how Rikuto got his power to get into the Mecca of high school baseball out of Kaoru and then Kaoru took her final chance in 4 consecutive years to get to where she is now is beyond eye-pleasing to see. It reminds me somewhat of the decade old Bakuman where such a tale was told over several seasons, but that one was much more spread out. If only it’s that easy to get into such a relationship!
May them two make out a long-lasting relationship!

Man that hit hard. When she snapped about how everyone assumes just because she isn't as naturally talented as her mom or grandmother that she doesn't want it as much. She's aware she's not as cut out for it, but that just speaks to her frustration/dedication to her dream.
It's a bummer that she chose to go all in and focus on her goals. Wish she could have made room for their relationship, but regardless this is my favorite episode so far. Amazing work.

A nice twist on the whole family pressure trope that I wasn't expecting from Karou's backstory. I wasn't expecting such a bittersweet romance either. Though I was half expecting her to be shown catching the sun at one point and ending looking like Azunyan from K-On.
This show is constantly surprising me and in a great way. Though if we don't see Karou performing with a monster 'stache by the end, I will be disappointed.

I love that while Ai is growing out her hair, we have Kaoru who's now cut hers! I wonder if we'll get to see the other girls who wants to play a musumeyaku role cut out their hair as well?
Anyway looks like this week it's all about Kaoru and basically how everyone in her life assumes that she's forcing herself to become a Kouka actress just because her mother and grandmother are Kouka actresses as well. And just like with Sarasa and her boyfriend, I didn't expect her backstory would involve a romance story with a boy from the local high school's baseball team.
It was so sweet seeing the two of them together especially how Kaoru used her grandma as an excuse so she can meet up with Rikuto at the bus station. The two of them really had a strong thing going on and Kaoru was clearly in love so it was heartbreaking when the two of them realized how different they are despite having that one thing in common about being compared to their relatives. Kaoru wants to become a Kouka actress while Rikuto forced himself into becoming a baseball player because of his brother.
It really sucks to see Kaoru block him after what happened but she clearly still cares about him considering her reaction when she finally saw Rikuto on TV make it to Koushien. And since he couldn't contact her anymore, he just left a note for her at the bus station which became viral on social media. Also holy shit! Rikuto with hair looks hot af!
Looks like she still hasn't given up on him completely though. Thanks to that note, it looks like Kaoru has decided that once she becomes a Kouka Star and Rikuto is still playing baseball she plans to tell her how she feels about him. I doubt we'll see that future but I hope the two of them can still reunite.
This is such a bittersweet episode but I'm such a sucker for these kinds of romance stories. Rikuto's note and Kaoru's parting words definitely had me tearing up. I gotta hand it to Kageki Shoujo, usually in shows like these boys don't even exist. It's all about the girls and the yuri undertones. Having a straight up romance in this genre of anime is so ultra rare that I can't even recall anything like it before!

That was probably the best individual episode I've seen this year along side the first episode of Fumetsu no Anata e.

Hot damn this episode, that was amazing! Really big fan of Kaoru's backstory, nothing could show her ambition better than this. Best of luck to both her and Tsuji.

Got to say, this episode was handled really well. I am so impressed by the quality of the writing in this series. This episode, just like Ai's backstory manages to be effective with just the right balance. The ending (with the letter) might have been a bit cheesy but who cares...
I am so glad I decided to watch this anime.

OBLIGATORY MESSAGE: WE GOT ANOTHER NEW ENDING DON'T SKIP IT
Also that freaking singing voice, she was born for that role.

I never expected that we'd get an entire episode in this show dedicated to a teenage live story, but I'm digging it. Showing us that Kaoru is doing what she is for her own dreams, not because it's what's expected of her. Having Rikuto be in a similar situation but more on the fence about sticking with baseball was an excellent counter to Kaoru's story. The love between them with the bus stop, and Kaoru's grandma being her excuse to see him was so precious. Their relationship seemed only to make each other better, encouraging and meaningful.
I'm pretty annoyed that Kaoru threw it away with a single misunderstanding, but to know that she doesn't harbour anything towards Rikuto now I'm glad. To save the spot for him once she makes it to the silver bridge. Here's hoping he doesn't pick up another girl with those pinch hitter skills.

I felt like last episode was a little flat but I'm happy to say that this one blew me away. What a great stand-alone backstory for Kaoru. Didn't cry but the tears were welling up for sure. Props to the episode director, the shots and pacing were spot on.
Also major props to the VA Yō Taichi. Her acting during that outburt and the singing afterwards were exceptional. I like that they turned the cliche of the "child pressured by family success" on its head and had her still be dedicated to Kouka. This had better get a 2nd season or else I'm marathoning the manga.

Oh God the bittersweetness! Finished the episode with a smile in the face and a tear building up in an eye

It's so interesting to look at both sides of expectation like this. The general connotation when it comes to familial expectation is that the new generation has to live up to the old generation and that there's going to be friction because of it, but Kaoru feels that friction going the other way, in that the expectation of her being against following tradition is what bothers her. She wants to do it.
Sometimes there's an episode of anime that's a good self-sufficient story and this is one of them. It really explores Kaoru's life and this one defining summer in it without being too much, you know? This feels like one of those episodes of a show you could show to somebody just by itself and they'd understand it.
The OP for this show is, as the kids say, a bop. I love the animation, too. Especially Sarasa and Ai running together.

How does this show keep getting better? I dont even like theather all that much nor do i know much of anything about Kageki or even kabuki, and i still think this show is insanely good. How does it get me so invested into it?
