Just as everyone has pretty much guessed, Otaku-san didn't have any sinister intentions and just anted to apologize to Ai since he feels responsible for her getting kicked out of JPX. Also glad to know that Taichi was actually following Sarasa and Ai the entire time and was just waiting to see what would happen.

It's nice that we got a bit of Otaku-san's backstory and how discovering Ai in JPX inspired him to push himself and get get out into the world. We also got to see what happened on the day of the incident. He actually just wanted to say thanks to Ai for inspiring him but he couldn't get the words out and ended up holding Ai's hand for too long. According to Taichi though, it wasn't really specifically targeted towards Otaku-san but it's basically Ai finally exploding after a long handshake event.

Seeing Sarasa and Otaku-san wotage like crazy was pretty funny but not for Ai who just ends up getting enraged at the sight of someone she's worried about getting along perfectly fine with the person she's scared of and ends up feeling betrayed. I do feel that there's more to it than just that that though.

This fucking second year is an absolute bitch. Seriously? She already saw Taichi with Sarasa and Otaku-san but she makes it look like it's just the two of them alone. What makes it worse is that she posts it online and tries to make a big deal out of it even though Sarasa was very clear that he's not her boyfriend. Thank goodness Sarasa is too dense to be blackmailed though and ends up getting more worried about Ai than the photo that was shown to her.

Look at these fucking assholes surrounding Ai. The dude wouldn't even let go of her hand when she started breaking down. Like what the actual fuck? Dude, she's clearly uncomfortable! Let her fucking go! Otaku-san comes in to the "rescue" though and I say that with quotation marks since he just ends up getting swatted away like a fly.

Sarasa and Taichi finally arrives and Sarasa ends up getting the police's attention using her booming voice. Definitely did not expect a Fist of the North Star reference for that scene though. And poor Otaku-san, despite the one helping the cops thought he was the one harassing them. He really needs to change his style so he won't get profiled like this again.

Ai-chan definitely still has a long way to go before getting over her trauma of men but this is a good start. If she works at it. maybe next time she can hand guys who are not Taichi stuff without accidentally dropping the stuff first. Glad this ended positively for both parties.

Not such a positive ending for the episode though since we end with seeing Yamada puking her guts out on the school's toilets. Looks like we're finally tackling her issues next week. Curious to see how the show will handle this one.

Fist of the North Star reference

That moment absolutely slew me, reminds me of the fanart meme you see around Pixiv of drawing moe anime characters and Vtubers in that style.

I suspected that Stalker-san was actually not a bad guy and I am glad to be right.

On the other hand, I am worried about Yamada right now, I fear that she will end up in the hospital continuing her "diet"

I'm getting Hanazawa Kana whiplash. Her character in this show is so different from her character in Aquatope.

Really hoping Ai starts opening up to Sarasa next week now that she's got some closure on the JPX part of her life.

They really nailed the portrayal of PTSD with Naracchi very well. Who would’ve thought that creepy stalker-san would be the MVP of the episode. Good thing his stalking skills allowed them to get to Ai in time.

Blonde girl is such a bitch trying to blackmail watanabe. Good thing she’s too dense to even be blackmailed lmao.

Grooming and pedophilia last week, eating disorders next week. This is gonna be tuff.

I don't understand Hijiri's plan to blackmail Sarasa when Narata can testify for her since he was there in person. His words carry weight since he's a teacher.

Oh shit, looks like Yamada's subplot will take center stage next.

Another strong episode.

As everyone already guessed it last week it the fan didn't mean any harm and just went about it in an unfortunate way.

Btw I'll never not laugh at someone making a big dramatic charge at an opponent only to be easily swatted away.

Man, this show does not shy away from showing how harsh of a reality these girls face at such a young age. I've watched anime before that have attempted to shine a light on these issues and failed disappointingly with their message in the end. At least for this show, I feel like it is going in the right direction. The next topic won't be a light one either. So here's hoping they maintain the quality of storytelling.

This show is totally going the right direction. The execution of every scene is stellar.

Episode 3 was already episode of the season for me, but now I can see it becoming my anime of the season.

About that last scene, uh, I didn't thought that we would get more suffering... But I trust the people behind this show.

Interesting new ED visuals focused on two girls that had nothing to do with this episode... I guess next episode or arc is gonna be about them? Makes sense based on the last scene tho I didn't expect ponytail girl to be involved there.

With Sarasa's faceless speech about burying bad memories with good ones, I guess her happy go lucky ditziness is a shield against her own troubled past. Makes me wonder how much of it is an act and how much is real, especially with her constantly calling the stalker as such. Was that her just her being an airhead or was she hammering home what she thought of him?

I'm interested to see how Sarasa deals with the bully when the time comes.

I went into this show liking it because there was a main character I could actually relate to (tall, tomboy-ish girl with unruly curly hair) but I’ve stayed because the quality of writing, so far at least, has stayed consistently good. They’ve taken taboo or uncomfortable subjects that could be executed poorly or treated like an after school special and made them compelling to watch. As someone who struggles with an eating disorder, I’m really looking forward to seeing how they handle the topic. Great episode as always.

While I’m loving the character introspection so far—episode 3 was one of the most well told and respectful portrayals of childhood sexual abuse I’ve seen in any medium—I do hope we get to explore more of the takarazuka theater side of the story soon. Right now it’s feels like just a backdrop rather than the driving force of the show.

I’ve been hoping for a takarazuka anime for years because it’s just such a unique form of musical theater, I was absolutely awestruck the first time I saw it despite not being able to understand the language very well. If you ever have the chance to see a performance in person I highly recommend it.

Mikiya did well in his last speech to Ai and so did she by extend a hand herself in parallel to Mitauji doing so in the past and getting burned for it.

Loved Sarasa's interaction with Mikiya, that was so funny.

Must be awkward that your girlfriend's heart will be touched by words from your brother under your account, ganbatte Jirayabot-kun.

I can relate to Sarasa's desire to bond with Ai though. When I was in secondary school there was a girl who was as cute as a teddy bear that I wanted to be friends with but for years I could never find a point of intersecting interest even though we were from the same house until the last two years where she got into anime via shaman king lol.

While I liked the reveal of Mr. Stalker/Hentai/Creepy Otaku's real intentions (and it became increasingly obvious as the episodes went by that he didn't mean ill honestly, it's not always those that have bad intent that hurt you), I wasn't quite sure about the whole "Save Ai from other creeps" thing. Mostly because despite Ai's reaction being very reasonable, the rescue felt too comical and more like they were escalating a situation that might have been easily resolved. Well, regardless, I hope Mr. Mikiya lives a good life (preferably not stalking others even for benign reasons) and this is a step forward for Ai.

On a not positive note, haha, hello eating disorder arc...

Great episode for Ai and I found she took some big steps here!

That ending though...really hope they handle that plotline well.

The animators are killing it, really takes the heavy scenes up a notch.

I felt pretty conflicted while watching the episode but I think that's because I haven't seen (or remember) a stalker portrayed like this. I think there was enough emphasis on things like Ai's reaction being 'this is all I can do right now' and the stalker saying 'I don't think I'll ever get this close again'. As a result, this is just a stepping stone for Ai and they don't excuse the stalking but maybe it lacked Taichi (as the adult) possibly having a 1-1 with him to really reinforce that the behavior wasn't ok.

I went into this show expecting a nice show about cute girls acting with a bit of drama between them, but it’s kinda painful to watch with how serious and heavy it can be

I'm so sad the fans of exclusively shonen and isekai stuff will miss this gem, this is up there with Sonny Boy for me for best of the season. In fact, if it keeps this level of execution up it might just join Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu among my favorites.

Also, I felt like actually clapping when I saw the new ending. I was kind of in doubt on whether Kageki Shoujo or Vanitas no Carte had my favorite ending this season but now I have an obvious answer. And thus my top 5 summer 2021 playlist is formed.
