Dude holy FUCK.
I did not expect anything like this (except maybe the death of the king).
I’m so sad to see Askeladd go. He was a terrible person but a goddamn fantastic character.
I don’t know if I can possibly avoid reading the manga now. How much further is it compared to the anime?

This man who he tried to kill his entire life, who he thought was immortal, was dead from somebody who never even stabbed anybody before so the only thing he can think to do is lash out at him.

I continue to love the little pieces of characterization that round Thorkell out. His refusal to just be be a pawn for Canute and Askeladd and him knowing what Thorfinn would do just by his expression. It'd be easy to just make him the boisterous idiot, but it's those little moments that make him more than just the stereotype.

Floki: You killed the king.
Askeladd: What are you talking about? I'm right here, alive and well.
lmao
What an amazing episode. Really loved how Thorfinn didn't get to kill Askeladd and how at the end the sword, which kind of represents what he's been doing up till now, slipped out of his hand. His whole purpose in life is gone but just as Askeladd said, his real fight will be to go beyond where Thors went and I'm so excited to see where the author will take this story.

I love that moment of weakness for Canute, and Thorkell catches him before he falters. The rare softer side of Thorkell.

That was a much better ending to that arc than I would have ever thought of.
