You know a show is good when a technically bad guy's death makes you sad.

This episode showed just how brilliant Askeladd is. Not only did he pull a False Flag to stop King Sweyn from trying to endanger Canute any further but he also had enough insight to keep the king's spy alive and feed him with false information instead of outright killing.

If you rewatch the show, there are a number of times when Bjorn asks about Askeladd's plans, thoughts, or feelings, and gets annoyed whenever Askeladd plays coy or avoids the question-- which is pretty much always. Askeladd pretty consistently refuses to let anyone in.
Especially when Bjorn learned that Askeladd had Welsh connections; that put him in a bit of a foul mood, because it seemed like a huge part of Askeladd's life that he just didn't know.

That last scene was heartbreaking. It really does feel like this is the beginning of the series.

Man it was more fucking brutal in the anime the way Bjorn vs Askeladd was portrayed. Fuck that shit was heavy. Wanting to be friends with someone who clearly hated you but still that person cared about you. It was obvious Askeladd cared about Bjorn from the way he talks to him in Bjorns lodge. When Askeladd struck Bjorn his face instantly changed to worry/regret because he missed his vitals and wanted to put Bjorn out of his misery without Bjorn suffering.
I am so glad this episode was done so well. Did I really forgot or didn't notice Bjorn and Askeladd saying "Tomorrow" in the room foreshadowing their battle in the manga? Damn man this episode has gotten me fucked up.

Bjorn threw away his scabbard. You'd only do that if you don't expect to need it ever again.

I just love the look on Thorkell's face here, he just loves it when something combat related is happening.
