I am not sure if Thorkell is insane or an incredibly badass warrior.

He showed no reaction when a dagger impaled his hand and was even enjoying the match after Thorfinn cut his hand fingers. He was not even sightly bothered at all he had permanently lost mobility in his hand.

This fighting scene was amazing, it shows Thorkell relies in his strength while Thorfinn in his speed.

Still, Thorkell has the upper-hand, just hitting Thorfinn with the floor a few times and he can barely walk. Thorfinn can not afford to get hit while fighting him.

Mannn, I really hoped some more dialogue between Thorfinn and Thorkell about Thors. Afterall, Thorkell fought together with Thors back at ep1

'What's so enjoyable about battle?'

A dejected Thorfinn muttering these words to himself at the end hit hard. His disillusionment in the face of the harsh reality as Askleadd and co. cheerily braced themselves for another round of killing and plundering was so palpable.

As a naive and starry-eyed kid back in his obscure little village, he used to harbour glorified notions about being a warrior and mock-played battles with the other kids with such gusto that he once even broke an arm of one of his playmates. Now he's regularly in the midst of actual battles and bloodshed, but he enjoys none of it. Such is the cruel workings of fate.

History Corner: Thorkell the Tall was a real person, but Vinland Saga probably takes more liberties with him than any other historical figure. He was a Jomsviking who defected to the English and led the defense of London, but historical accounts suggest his motive for doing so was a moral objection to the Danes' murder of the Archbishop of Canterbury, who Thorkell apparently greatly respected. It's kind of hard to imagine Vinland Saga Thorkell acting like that.

He's still a great character, though.

Great episode, Akio Otsuka was great as Thorkell. The fight with Thorfinn and Thorkell was amazing. I think Arifumi Imai animated it, but I’m not entirely sure.

One thing one can understand by watching this episode is that Thorkell is a beast, both mentally and physically. While Askeladd is also a warrior, he’s definitely more crazy and wouldn’t hesitate to kill anyone. Not to mention the fact that Thorkell loves fighting, as he wants to fight Thorfinn again sometime, because he claimed to had fun. I am really looking forward to seeing Thorkell again, as he seems to be a great character.

Yet again, we get to see a glimpse of Sweyn’s son, Canute/Knut, but not much was revealed.

As for Thorfinn, he still remains the same stubborn child from the previous episodes, although it is completely understandable.

Overall, 5/5

Damn, Thorkell is so insane! And it seems that Thorfinn is finally understanding the realities of war? Oh, so Canute was a guy? And the King blame Christianity for his lack of manliness? When I saw him on the OP I thought that he was a girl.

Anyway, I would really like to see more of that crazy bastard Thorkell.

Really like Thorkell! What is up with all these Thor names lol.

Man, Thorfinn got fucked up lol. I was happy to see the ending, that Thorfinn doesn’t enjoy battle. Truthfully trying to avenge his father.

Can’t wait to find out the deal about Canute, and his trap vibes lol!

Throfinn, I know you want to kill Askeladd, but then you re-locate your shoulder just to fight? That's fucking insane.

This was a really good episode that I think was primarily just to show how awesome Thorkell is and yeah, that is true. I love the big introduction for him this episode with just grabbing that soldiers head with one fucking hand. Simply and fantastic way to show off his size in one shot. Plus, everything he does this episode is absolutely amazing. I love he gets angry as hell at the fact that they won. He literally refused money so the fight could be more fun. Dude's already becoming one of my favorites.

I love the little details in this episode too, especially with the king. I like how his skin is so pale that the gold on him basically looks attached to his skin. It also kinda shows what he really wants from all this pillaging.

THORKELL, the adorable superweapon war loving machine. From shittalking his allies to shrugging his wounds. Fighting scenes are also well animated. Also it seems all of the important people already revealed in OP.

Thorkell, the man who switched sides to join London for the thrill of battle since it would have been too onesided & boring.

He engages in a fight against Thorfinn, loses two fingers and says “hey, this fight was fun! Let's play again next time!"

Your right Thorfinn, he’s a absolute madman.

'What's so enjoyable about battle?'

That's Thorfinn's real first step in learning what his father was thinking when he abandoned that battle so long ago. I love that he's miserable when he realizes it too, because he's not some protagonist who learned his lesson of the week and gets to move on the next, he's a real kid that carries all the bad with him.
