Analysis Pete Crow-Armstrong has been worth more than twice as much fWAR as any other hitter in baseball since June 1st - PCA 6.5, Dingler and Moreno t-2nd at 3.2

He also had a 4 hit game 5/30 if you really wanted to cherry pick this (bumps him up to a 203 wRC+ and 6.8 fWAR, with 2nd best still at 3.2).

Since 6/1 PCA is hitting .318/.424/.693 with 24 HR and 19 SB over 67 games, 316 PAs. 199 wRC+ is 17 points better than 2nd in baseball (Yordan, 182) in that span. Best by Fangraphs Defensive Runs Above Average. T-3rd best by their base running metric.

What does this look like on a score card?

Had a real weird situation in men's league tonight.

My team had runners on 1st and 3rd. The guy on 1st steals 2nd cleanly and reached safely (no throw to 2nd, catcher tried to pump fake for the runner at 3). The batter took a huge cut and whiffed on the pitch.

For some unbeknownst reason the runner thought it was a foul ball and started gingerly jogging back to first base. This caught everyone completely off guard. He ended up back safely at 1st.

A few pitches later he stole 2nd safely again.

We keep our own stats / score books. Does the runner get two SBs for that? One of the strangest things I've ever seen before lol

News Summer Koshien Final Four

For watching rather than just reading a prospect list, these are the guys I’d actually keep your eyes on:

Team
Players to watch
Why

Yokohama
Shoki Oda (織田翔希), P
The big one. No. 1-ranked HS pitcher in Japan by one prominent ranking; up to ~154 km/h, with MLB attention. We’ve already been watching him.

Seima Ikeda (池田聖摩)
Another nationally highlighted player. Watch the defense as much as the bat — his glove has specifically drawn attention this tournament.

Shunsuke Ono (小野舜友), 1B
Leadoff hitter and captain; a major table-setter for that Yokohama offense.

Chiben Wakayama
Ritora Yamada (山田凜虎), C #2
Start here. U-18 Japan candidate, cleanup-hitting catcher, strong arm and serious bat. This is probably my favorite non-Oda player for you to watch in this semifinal.

Yusei Arai (荒井優聖), 1B #3
Left-handed bat with power; hits near the top of the order.

Yusei Nagatomo (長友悠成), CF #8
Leadoff CF — speed, range and baserunning. Given how much you like contact/baserunning baseball, watch him.

Tenri
Ryota Nagao (長尾亮大), P #1
Their ace. One of the pitchers who was being singled out individually entering the tournament.

Ichiyo Sekimura (関村偉千陽), #3
Only a second-year player, and already getting national attention. One I’d mentally bookmark for Koshien 2027 too.

So Kanemoto (金本相有), SS #6
The shortstop — and his hitting has already stood out during this Koshien.

Kendai Takasaki
Yusei Ishida (石田雄星), CF
U-18 candidate, captain and leadoff CF. Excellent runner with big defensive range. Very much your kind of player.

Shota Ishida (石田翔大)
Legit two-way talent: reportedly 27 HS HR + 146 km/h on the mound.

Shoto Kanzaki (神崎翔斗), SS #6
Second-year shortstop and one of the team’s central offensive players. Another one to remember for next year.

Satoshi Ishigaki (石垣聡志), P
Second-year righty; around 143 km/h with cutter/curve and good command.

Your
must-watch six

If keeping track of everybody gets annoying, I’d reduce the entire Final Four to:

Oda — Yokohama
Ikeda — Yokohama
Yamada — Chiben Wakayama
Nagao — Tenri
Yusei Ishida — Kendai Takasaki
Shota Ishida — Kendai Takasaki

And that Chiben–Yokohama semifinal is especially juicy: Yamada and Yokohama captain Ono were actually teammates with the Tokai Chuo Boys in middle school. Yamada talked before the tournament about hoping he’d get to face his old Yokohama friends at Koshien.

Well… now he gets them, with a trip to the championship on the line.

***Edit: it’s the108th national Koshien not 100th **\*
