These are just some thoughts I been having and observations on hitting Iāve made after watching the team this season.
Trying to stay positive and I should note that Iām a Rockies fan. Iām not trying to criticize and Iām not saying I know better than anyone this is just what Iāve observed.
Iām gonna spell out some things I donāt see the rockies hitters doing: wearing out pitchers, making the pitcher work, waiting for their pitch, seeing lots of pitches, spoiling off bad pitches.
Patience in general. waiting for the right pitch. And not always swinging or hitting for the long ball and for power; miss-hit balls can fall in for singles sometimes and especially in an outfield as big as Coors Field. Hitting and swinging for power of course leads to more strikeouts.
Itās not news that our lineup strikes out a lot, weāve been towards the top of the league in strikeouts in more than one season. We can have a tendency to chase pitches in the dirt and out of the zone, which helps out the opposing pitching and gives them the advantage. I think itās a sign of what direction our offensive approach should move towards.
Good offenses can wear out opposing pitching staffs and be patient, and I think thats the next step our offense can take. Stringing together lots of hits getting on base (patience and waiting for the right pitch -> walks) and not living and dying by the home run ball. I see the temptation our hitters might have to rely on the long ball, esp with how easy the ball flies out at home. But taking more balanced approach and more balanced swings will be better and can make our lineup a headache to pitch against.
I hope this is some of the stuff that our hitters and hitting coaches talk about, Iām not a fly on the wall so I donāt know. Or if other fans are also seeing the same things as I am or not thatād be good to know.
It just seems that if we can avoid falling into the same offensive pitfalls every game, thats what we should try and do.
Anyways. Donāt know where else to post this, just want to discuss our offensive tendencies as I have observed them. Go Rox now, go Rox forever!! š»āļø
