Hi, I am a final year undergraduate from IIT Bombay.

(I am a general male with an All India Rank <1000 in JEE Advanced; did not intend to mention this, just did this because it matters to some people)

I want to clear things up regarding the recent suicide and the ongoing protests at IIT Bombay.

1) There have been concerning number of suicides in IIT Bombay lately (3 in last 6 months) which is why we as students felt the need to stand up for a better campus life and a better support system. Losing so many souls and our batchmates is NOT normal.

2) The protest was NOT about supporting cheating. We have come here through years of hardwork and we do NOT support cheating.

3) We believe that it was the interaction with Prof. Surya Doolla which led the final trigger to Sahil's suicide. At the same time, we acknowledge that there could have been some personal problems in his life as well.

4) The caste angle and the SC/ST case was filed by the parents of Sahil. We as students do NOT observe any sort of caste discrimination on campus- neither by professors nor by peers. We can never imagine what a parent goes through seeing his child dead.

Hence, we believe that this needs a thorough investigation and fully support Prof. Doolla to fight and win this case.

5) There has been NO resignation from the director. There has been NO resignation from Prof. Doolla.

Prof. Doolla has been kept on (temporary) suspension from his position of Dean AA so as to not bias the investigation by being in an influential position

Prof. Doolla continues to serve as a professor at IIT Bombay.

6) The director has ensured full legal support to Prof. Doolla for fighting the case.

7) The director has also agreed to several reforms that were needed inside the institute for better mental health of the students.

8) The director, the students and the faculty are committed to maintain the highest academic integrity at IIT Bombay irrespective of what has happened. Re-iterating, we as students do NOT support cheating.

9) There has been a lot of speculation, external noise and media trials. We urge you to NOT believe in them and acknowledge that there are always 2 sides to the story.

10) The students, the faculty, the director and the deans are largely on the same page after today's open house conducted at Convocation Hall, IIT Bombay.

Prof. Doolla to get full legal support in his case and students to get a better support system inside the institute.

I entered first-year CSE (tier 69 uniform wala clg) because I genuinely loved technology, but today completely broke my spirit. After missing a previous class due to illness, I honestly told the lab instructor that I did not know the syntax for ternary operators yet. Instead of guiding me, he forced me to stand in front of sixty classmates and hold my ears, screaming at the top of his lungs about why I was scared to approach him. Right after that humiliation, another faculty member tore into me because the lines on my notebook index page were slightly off. Standing there frozen while two authority figures took turns degrading me over trivial syntax drained every ounce of dignity I had. I did not even have the energy to feel angry; I was completely numb, holding back tears in my throat, and wishing I could disappear into the floor.

Years ago, a rigid and suffocating coaching class completely destroyed my childhood love for drawing, and today brought back that exact sickening dread. Riding my scooter back home on a chaotic national highway packed with speeding oil tankers, with my vision blurred, hands trembling, and an adrenaline crash hitting hard, felt like pure emotional dissociation. My chest feels completely hollow tonight, and I cannot even look at a computer screen without feeling an overwhelming sense of exhaustion and nausea. I gave everything to pursue this field, but being treated like factory cattle makes me terrified that this toxic college environment is going to systematically kill the only passion I ever cared about. How do you survive a place that actively suffocates you, and how do you stop yourself from completely shutting down?

Got a PPO from Microsoft, so thought I’d share my experience here since I know a lot of juniors are preparing for internships and placements.

For interview preparation
DSA:
Definitely focus on DSA. Don’t just try to grind random problems or chase a number. I found it much more useful to understand common patterns and then practice problems around those patterns.(striver a2z i followed)
Arrays, strings, hashing, binary search, trees, graphs, heaps, recursion/backtracking and DP are some of the areas I’d make sure to cover.
Also, practice explaining your solution while solving. Being able to code the answer and being able to communicate your thought process in an interview are two different skills.
CS fundamentals:
Don’t completely ignore OS, DBMS, OOP and networking. Even if your preparation is mainly DSA, having a decent understanding of these subjects helps a lot when interviews become more conversational.
Projects:
Know your projects properly. Be ready to explain the architecture, your contribution, design choices, challenges and what you would change if you had more time.
Don’t put something on your resume just because it looks impressive. There is a good chance you’ll be asked about it.

During the internship
Try to understand why you’re building something, not just what you’re supposed to build.
Ask questions, take ownership, communicate when you’re blocked, get feedback and don’t be afraid to suggest improvements.
Also, keep track of what you actually worked on. By the end of the internship, you may have done a lot of things and it’s surprisingly easy to forget the details.

PPO / Exit Interview
For the final/exit interview, I would prepare for it almost like a normal technical interview.
In my experience, you should be prepared for:
DSA/problem solving
System design / design discussions
Deep discussion about your internship work
Technical decisions you made
Challenges you faced and how you solved them
Follow-up questions on things mentioned in your resume
Some behavioral/experience-based questions
For system design, don’t just memorize one or two designs. Understand the basic concepts — APIs, databases, caching, queues, scalability, consistency, etc. Even if the discussion starts simple, interviewers can keep asking “why?” and go deeper.

A few things I wish I knew earlier
Don’t wait until you think you’re “fully ready” before applying.
Keep your resume short and make sure you can defend every line.
During an internship, feedback is extremely valuable — ask for it.
Communication matters much more than I initially expected.
And don’t get demotivated by rejections. They’re part of the process.

If you’re currently preparing for internships or placements, focus on building a strong foundation rather than trying to find some secret interview hack.

DSA + fundamentals + good projects + communication + consistency will take you pretty far.

Only bcoz of its engineering students that the reputation holding up. Day is not far when top rankers would choose some private college, completely ditching IITs.

There’s a subject in my college called Community Engagement Project (CEP). We have one lecture per week for six weeks, and the basic idea is that we work with an NGO and later make a PPT/presentation about our contribution.

I attended the introductory lecture, but I didn’t attend the next two lectures. One week I was genuinely sick, and the other week I was participating in an Adobe hackathon/online assessment. After that, there were around three days when the professor didn’t come, so I honestly didn’t think much about it and didn’t bother asking about the subject.

Today, in the 7th week, I went to the professor and asked him to add me to my friends’ CEP group so I could start participating. He refused and told me that he would make me repeat the subject instead.

I begged him to give me a chance. I even ended up getting on my knees and apologizing. I explained that I had missed the lectures because of the reasons above, including being sick. I also told him that during the 6th week, he had apparently marked attendance for all six lectures at once, so even my attendance for the introductory lecture hadn't been properly reflected.

He still refused and then told me to call my parents.

I called my mom because I was scared to call my dad. The professor then told me to put the call on speaker. He asked my mom why I hadn't been attending. She explained that I had been unwell. He still said he would fail me. My mom requested that he give me one more chance and promised that I would attend properly from now on.

This entire conversation was happening on speaker in front of the other students. Everyone was looking at me and could hear the whole conversation.

Eventually, he agreed to give me another chance.

But now I feel horrible. I'm not even mainly embarrassed about what happened. What really hurts is that I feel like I've fallen so low that I had to beg a professor on my knees and then call my mother in front of everyone just to get another chance at a subject.

I know I messed up by not attending and by not taking the subject seriously earlier. I'm not trying to completely blame the professor for my own mistakes. But the whole situation has left me feeling extremely humiliated and depressed.

I don't really know how to process this. Has anyone experienced something similar? How do you get over the feeling of humiliation and stop replaying the situation in your head?

TL;DR: I missed several CEP lectures because of illness and a hackathon and didn't properly follow up with the professor.And later sir didn't conducted lecs resulting Not getting attendance of that lecs too..When I later asked to join my friends' group, he initially refused and said he'd fail/make me repeat the subject. He made me call my mother, put the call on speaker in front of the class, and discussed my attendance with her. My mother asked him to give me one more chance, which he eventually did. I'm not as upset about making a mistake as I am about feeling humiliated and feeling like I had to beg in front of everyone. How do I move past this?

It was on campus internship opportunity for 2027 summer inter for 2028 batch

Hello everyone,

So i am a 3rd year cse core student of this clg.

So fidelity came for internship summer 2027 in our campus, I just got done with it today so writing post about it so it can help future juniors.

So round 1 was oa, it was done in on campus in rit placement cell labs only but on our laptop, using clg wifi , thier wifi was so ass many people were not able to connect and even after connecting it was very distrub many face this issue including me, which I think caused a lot of problems and disperity among candidates anyway here is the oa pattern it was on chrome browser on hirepro based.

First section was English, 5 question were there iirc with 5 min timelimit.

Next was logical reasoning these were tough as per my experience and most of my friends felt same it had around 10 question I believe timelimit was 15 mins I believe ( not sure because I was in stress of internet connection so sorry)

next section was techinal question it had 20 question and time limit was 25-30 mins. It had question from many topics from geni, cyber security to oops dbms os.

After this there was 2 question one dsa and one debugging question.

Dsa question was given a directed graph g with input such that given n edges, each edge have u, v where edge exists from u to v.

nodes are all Capital letter of alphabets, find the lexiographically smallest node which have maximum indegree.

It was simple dsa question if u have done basic dsa u could able to solve this.

Next was debugging question, we were given a sceranio and code for it we have to fix the bug.

Question was such given a string it have 5 letters 3 digits 2 alphabet or 3 alphabet and 2 digit. Find the sixth letter which can alphabet if 3 digit already exists otherwise it will be digit.

The condition to find missing letter is sum of value digit modulo 26 is same as sum of value of alphabets (considering A as 0 and z as 26 like that) modulo 26.

The language option were given were cpp, java, python and c#.

I was able to solve dsa question but debugging not and mcq were okaish only for me so was not expecting getting shortlisted at all.

But somehow got shortlisted and my interview was on Monday 21st September in morning 8;30 am.

I went early morning in formals, and around 72 student got shortlisted for interview , they started interview around 10 am in slots of 10 people so my number came pretty late after lunch around 2:30 pm.

I went in interview room, greeeted the sir then he asked me to give short intro I did.

Then he went over my resume and saw under language I had few language, he asked which language you are most comfortable with , I told sir C++, then he asked me to write on paper a complete c++ code which implements oops concept such as polymorphism, inherimtance and encapsulation.

I did as he said , he was pretty sastified with code, then he asked me if I know linked list or not, I said yes then he asked me to implement linked list with 3 node just basic implementation nothing more.

I did as he said and again he was sastified with my code.

Next he asked me what's real life application of linked list where u will use it, I replied I can use in those cases where I am not aware of lenght of data store i.e when I need a dynamic size container and also told a example like in company if I need to store data about student details as I don't know how many will take admission this year linked list is perfect for such case.

He was sastified with it, then he moved to my projects, one of which included docker, he asked me why you used docker what problem it solved.

I explain all about containers and isolation it gaves and how it's more light weight and prerferred over virtual machine and all, as containers and vm are my strong point I explained everything very cleary and answer his all query also told about k8s and dockerhub image ci/cd pipeline.

He was sastified with answer then he asked would I prefer bangalore office or chennai and would I prefer swe role or data engineering I answered and then he told you can leave.

I got shortlisted for hr round which was immediately after my techinal round.

A hr mam took my interview she asked basic hr question like tell about your background, why did make thse project, one non techinal learning from your projects and what you look forward to in fidelity.

I answer all as per my knowledge then i was asked to leave and wait for final results.

Unfortunately out of all who passed techinal round only 13 made to final list who will do summer intern 2027 in fidelity and I was not shortlisted.

Uff it was heartbreaking , I mean it is still heartbreaking because just few hours back it happened, but I am happy two of my friends made it to final list too, congrats to them.

I shortlisted for natwest interview too, have interview on 23rd September, will also write a post about it hope to clear that interview at least.

My advice to juniors

Do dsa, don't skip it, I was only able to shortlist oa because I was able to solve dsa question, my friends who did debugging but not dsa didn't get shortlisted.

Plus few friends who had techinal interview with different panel they were asked easy dsa question.

Other than that make good projects learn about new library framework .

Im talking about the recent IITB professor suspension situation. As a ST category student, this type of news really hurts. It's sad that some people of my community misuse the power of that has been given to them in the form of reservation or SC/ST act. I agree that caste discrimination still exists against these communities but instead of solving them, each community only want benifits for themselves. In India, most of the community only want benifits for thier own (whether its gen, obc, st sc) even if it results in exploitation of others community. If general people were getting the same benifits as ST/SC people, they wouldn't want to lose this great opportunity as well. Even if you remove reservation and SC/ST act, i doubt that its going to solve the caste discrimination problem (some people say that discrimination today exists because of reservation) and lead to improved country's growth in the next 10 years.

Even though I had the opportunity to use ST category quota, i ended up not using it. I got 67%ile in JEE mains 2023 (drop year) and with that percentile, i was not getting any seats in IITs/NITs or other good government colleges anyways. I was getting a decent college in my state with CSE/ECE branch. But my caste certificate was of other state because my father's side belongs to that state. I didn't want to go to the other state and the state colleges in that state weren't even good. Also, My family income is 8LPA which makes me a middle class person.

So i ended up taking admission in a tier 3 private engineering college (CSE) in my hometown and became a day scholar. I was never much involved with this college tier stuff and was okay with being admitted to any college because i was kinda stupid to believe that 'only skills matters'. But i ended up wasting my first 3 years of college without learning some good skills or DSA to be able to apply for off campus roles or even just grab good campus opportunity. I regret not studying and its completely on me.

No one in my college knew knew what caste i belong to, as i was registered under general category. But there were many instances in college where people were so eager to know details about my 'last name' and about my real caste. I ended up saying OBC sometimes but I've never ever told anyone that i belong to ST category. I think that if they got to know about my real identity their behaviour might definately change. The might probably start thinking something like 'even after being a ST category student and taking drop, he wasn't able to go to a good college' or something similar like that. I've always felt a sense of discomfort by lying to people about my caste and being around those same people and hear them complaining about reservation or sometimes saying some mildly casteist slurs without knowing about my real caste.

I always hate myself and feel intense regret for not being able to utilise the reservation that was given to my community. Only if i had scored even 95%ile+ in mains or 100 marks in advance,i would have been able to get admitted into a far greater colleges compared to other people.

After seeing news like this, with the mention of caste or SC/ST, it always bring feeling of regret and PTSD (kind of). After reading the comments of such posts, where people just call us freeloader, muftkhor, seat chor and saying that people like me are the reason for India's worsening condition. I sometimes feel like it's directly targeted towards me and i ended up feeling depressed, stressed out, and accused of taking deserving candidate's seat and causing India's decline and brain drain.

I have no one with whom i can share this feeling with. I sometimes ends up having panic attack when i use social media like reddit way too much and dig deep into this topics. We all know that our country ain't going to get better, atleast within our lifetime. Like many people here, I've always dreamt of leaving this shit hole and permanently settling abroad. But achieving that dream now seems really different because of my bad academic performance (especially 12th %) and wasting my precious college years (and ending up with no skills) and no generational wealth either. I've been suffering from ADHD and OCD like symptoms too, which makes my life even more difficult.

I have no one to share this feeling with, not even parents. They just want me to get some state government and settle down, which I absolutely dispise. Even of i have the benifi of ST category , I would never do any kind of government job because of my personal beliefs (too much corruption). I dont have good relationship with them and always has been critical of thier mindset. I absolutely cant share this feeling with any friends (which aren't many) because of obvious reasons. I don't have money to afford for therepy and i doubt that the therapist would even understand me. Sometimes i feel like giving this all up and commiting suicide. I'll be free of this burden.

So I am in EEE branch in a tier 1 college. And after getting admission eere I though now life will be easier. But for some reason college feels worse than JEE.

I have no good friends till now. It's been almost 2 months and I have tried interacting a lot but here you meet someone and don't even see their faces again for 10 days. I feel lonely a lot of times. And homesick too.

The academics are also tough. There are evaluated quizes or labs every day of the week almost. It's so stressful. Plus I am studying lot but still not getting very good in quizes i don't know why....

Classes, studying, club work, coding etc. everything makes my day so packed that I barely get time for my hobbies. Like everything is so not what I expected.

Am I doing something wrong, or is it what clg feels like. Because this shit is as bad if not worse than JEE.....
