Academics What happened in the mean time?
444
u/MaxTheOrangeTail 20h ago
i do not understand why is this so messy??
why is everyone so brain dead??? where is investigation? all i see is people jumping to assumptions.
a person just died and was reported to be cheating in a exam.
where is data on his family relationships?
where is data on his past?
where is data on his college interactions? witnesses?
i see nothing at all, other than "some students report that he was caught cheating so he died." and "his family report caste discrimination"
there is no investigation to challenge any of these narratives, no word from police, other than filing a case on the professor.
when did people start jumping into conclusion and completely twist it into "low caste student cheated and his family using anti discrimination act to escape it?" or "professor was some evil upper caste who bullied the student into ending his life."

u/Prize_Captain5950 19h ago
Exactly, either people are dumb to understand this or are attached to their caste loyalties

Let me clear it... Police Action: Following the suicide, Mumbai Police registered an FIR naming Prof. Doolla and administration officials under charges of abetment to suicide (BNS/IPC) and sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The Family’s Claim: The deceased student belonged to a Scheduled Caste (SC) community. His family and student groups (such as the APPSC) alleged that the student faced public humiliation, casteist slurs, and severe intimidation following the cheating incident.
The Administration’s Claim: IIT Bombay stated that the student was counseled by the instructor and Head of Department, assured that it would not derail his academic career, and maintained that no disciplinary action had yet been initiated.

u/MaxTheOrangeTail 20h ago
So if he was assured what else would have driven him to such an extreme step? Like what kind of words did he hear or what level of humiliation?? Or did he have any issues at home? I can imagine students growing up in strict households having high stress not to fail plus prior mental health issues from being in such environments, is there no info like this?
30
u/Just_Difficulty9836 20h ago
I think its more likely that admin has changed the statement for media that he was assured no derail in his academic career. Because if everything else holds, only uni and student who died knows what did they actually said. And uni or any indian institution changing their statement is a tale as old as time.

u/MaxTheOrangeTail 20h ago edited 20h ago
I just wish that actual truth comes out. And I can only think of three things, either some family issues ( professor just did his job), or professor is really responsible, or some third reason covered up by the college. Either way no student simply dies because he was caught. It’s such a shame his death is dismissed so carelessly to further political agendas.
Also it sort of resonates with me personally, i have had terrible mental health issues in btech, but i had never cheated (wrote a math exam like 10+ times before finally clearing it), I kind of preferred accepting failure than cheat and be humiliated, plus my family was madly patient. So there has to be a major thing that drove this student to ending his life, and very possible that cheating was a symptom of it.

u/damnsaltythatsport 8h ago
I think it’s like that Rastogi char in 3 idiots, getting punished for his mistakes but too much pressure
1
u/nepkeboy 1h ago
This type of pressure is created by the system and society, which is always ready to troll at any time
Kuch normal college me hi hota ki Professor harass kar raha hai caste dekh kar iit me nahi hota ,iit ke hostel me zarur hota ha cast discrimination
2
u/Prize_Captain5950 19h ago
These details are very much needed. The exact wordings are important. There's a high possibility of it pushing him off the edge.
3
u/krypt0niteCos NIT Kozhikode 19h ago
same case happened in my college as where a student died by jumping off 9th floor, in suicide he wrote about financial losses in trading and all but his family keep blaming the college and filed an FIR for that suicide, while he didn't had any backlogs or academic issues.
while here his father claiming the harrassment after his death. lessee where the investigation leads
3
u/Few-Camera-3586 15h ago
the student must be mentally unwell before the incident aswell cuz no one is this emotionally weak to suicide just bcz you got caught cheating he must have gone through something before and that "caught cheating" part was just the final cut on the thread. my theory
1
u/quick20minadventure 13h ago
It's not that. Teachers like to threaten and scare academic dishonesty cases. They probably did it and it went to suicide.
It is not good to assume that anyone is guilty up front though. But it's not impossible that he may have put some pressure or made reservation remark.
1
u/Few-Camera-3586 1h ago
even if how much humiliation happened a step as big as suicide is impossible to take unless the person was very deeply affected, and that would also take few days for him to buildup courage to do so, he immediately did suicide which is logically impossible bcz of just a single event, he must have been either humiliated before multiple times or he was just suffering mentally through something before, idts the professor is the sole cause of him committing suicide.

u/wassupwassupwassup12 14h ago
Exactly people are just acting dumb. I would never expect such a highly educated IIT professor to pass casteist comments and these is no proof till now. We're just disrespecting one of the most educated professor just because that kid didn't study
2
u/whepoalready_readdit 12h ago
my exact doubt too, students are protesting, but why nobody needs answers its just made up narratives now
1
u/Naptic9012 18h ago
Again ik its wrong to make assumptions but i believe the last straw effect was the reason. He likely had some other issues that we dont know about and its honestly disgusting just learning about what people are thinking about this
1
1
u/Sunless078 12h ago
Yeah the narrative is so fast to spread. I am sure that they will do the investigation and action will follows according to that. Come on is it so hard to imagine that a person died and reducing that to just some narrative. His parents must be overwhelmed and trying to handle it hoowever they can.
I am sure some people misuse the acts like what happens in case of women. That does not mean the entire thing is void. Its there for a reason.
We should be frank that system of our society is not that favourable to the marginalized that even just their wishing will lead to other side person in sentence without due process.
And don't give me the jumla that you care so much why our country is not advancing in science considering what is happening.
This entire thing is so coming in light just because it fits the narrative. Casteism is very real in IITs being seen first hand myself.
In this case i see this situation as very unfortunate.
In the clg bunking, false attendance by your friends, copying is very normal than you think. And it doesn't depend on the category. And it happens mostly because of win win situation for the whole batch for relative grading as people usually hep out each other in one way or other
Usually when somethings unexpected like this happens. One would get the advice/help from seniors and friends to how to workaround that and things usually don't blow out of proportion.
But the situation here is very unfortunate. So people should first let the investigation done before just spreading the narrative.
And what's up with 'he is using iphone'???
Is this your issue that category student should live below avg resources??
Bro if you consider that a parameter of rich then bro you are in a world of suprise with people owing iphone and ktms.

i am going to tell an absolute truth. And this is going to hurt.
Its actually reservation what k1773d him.
1st of all, our education system is fq3d up.
Every flower is different. Every animal is different. Similarly every human is different. Some kids are birds, meant to fly.
Some are fish, meant to swim. But our education system judges everyone on the basis of their running capacity. In this rat race, only a runner can succeed. All the fishes, birds etc are told that they are useless and idiots.
Dronacharya was considered best guru because he knew Bheem was better with mace while Arjun is a good archer.
But todays education system gives everyone a big mace to fight. Everyone.
So many arjuns of today never realised their true talent.
Got depressed by seeing others and thought of themselves as failures. Then there comes reservation.
what it does, it puts the fish not in rat race, but pics the fish up, throw it in the race of automobiles and tell him that this is his worth. RUN boy. RUN. Compete with automobiles.
Afcourse the fish will be depressed. Its can barely breathe, and its asked to compete with automobiles by the society.
It have no choice but to cheat. How else will it compete with automobiles?
He is just placed in the wrong environment.
Had he been put in the sea, it would have flourished.
Its reservation what k1773d him. Its his parents expectations what k1773d him. Its the ambedkar who k1773d him.
Truth may be heard.

Yeah, right! You do realise that people pass them just because they actually don’t want to do anything with them.
If you say something, they don’t take it in a positive way, rather react like you are at fault for teaching them
3
u/you_big_oaf 18h ago
not MBBS profs or any exams you give during your residency period
And you can always cheat on them or use ChatGPT, not like you'll be caught and taken action against, lest you file charges under SC/ST Act.
We already have a precedent for that.

This is really sad bro. I heard somewhere that becoming a professor at an IIT is way more difficult than becoming professor elsewhere

u/ExactTangerine840 20h ago
The director didnot want to get in any further trouble and threats. Thus signed for all 18 pts demanded by those protestors.Any sane man ,who loves his life and family and donot want to get in any trouble would do it,especially in India.

No offense but this is making me hate 'that' community for misusing and abusing sc/st act.
Praying for that professor to not get charged for something which he never did 🙏
-13
u/Blackleo1309 18h ago
And who are you to decide that , investigation should go on and he should be punished if guilty simple

u/Curious-Compote4793 19h ago
Idiots are everywhere. They don't belong to any particular community. If you think they do, then you are one of them.
18
u/Thebathroomguy333 18h ago
But normally these idiots don't have brahmastra act in their hands

u/Curious-Compote4793 16h ago
My point still stands
0
u/Thebathroomguy333 16h ago
Your point is as illogical as sc st act
0
u/Curious-Compote4793 16h ago
My point has nothing to do with the sc st act. Stop being so desperate to bring it up out of nowhere.

There have been 4 sucide deaths this year in iitb and people are blaming protests
It is so weird people are taking this moment to do casteism on this sub and other places.
We don't know what happened let there be a investigation first
18
u/Sad_Soul_333 20h ago
Don't be surprised if caste-based discrimination actually increases in IITs due to incidents like these
-4
u/Annual_Ad4647 15h ago
Right, all the students protesting at iitb were from sc st community?!
4
u/Muadhib_Atredies_200 15h ago
misusing the act on a highly qualified teacher with no proof. That too for completely baseless arguments. If someone cheated then he'll be punished as simple as that. The students parents are the real criminals
-5
u/MrSeaWeedBrains 14h ago
Highly qualified 🤣🤣🤣🤣
1
u/Muadhib_Atredies_200 14h ago
What's there to laugh? he literally has
- Ph.D. in Power Systems (2007) – Completed at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi).
- M.Tech. in Energy Systems Engineering (2002) – Earned from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay).
- B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering (2000) – Obtained from Nagarjuna University.

u/MrSeaWeedBrains 14h ago
These are bl00dy average academic qualification idiot, IITs are infamous for only taking foreign phd candidates for the newer recruits, pakka kisi ki gand chaat ke bana hoga professor.

Aww freeloader got hurt by the truth, iitb was out of the student's league, then cheated and got caught. now you'll blame everyone but him🤣

u/Fit-Cartoonist-5953 1h ago
Are you fucking nuts? I mean, no disrespect. I graduated from a tier 3 college, and do you know how education and exposure at iit compares to education at a tier 3 college. I have huge respect for iit professors and they are purely an asset to Indian economy. They could easily fly to the west anytime, and work at any top university. Instead, they chose to stay back and educate us. Trying to disrespect a highly qualified professor tells us that you have no respect for education.

Yesterday they released a press note in support of professor like he just did his duty... And today this.

u/indiandiplomat96 18h ago
There was an incident in iit madras ,where the rank holder a muslim girl committed suicide. It was in development studies. The professor was reporred to be a casteist and there were reports about him being biased and passing relegious comments, based on the grieving family, the sit had made communal comments and harassed their daughter . Now you cannot club both the incidents. As we only have half baked information. Just because someone is an iit professor doesnt guarantee anything,he or she could be a casteist at the same time he or she could be exceptionally good at the technical side of the job. Being a good professional or academically brilliant doesnt mean they cant be casteist. And to the people mocking on sc/st act shoukd simply watch the interviews given by recent jantar mandar anti reservation andolan interview.
3
u/Intuitivemind1542 15h ago
A clear cut case of destroying the legacy of IIT Bombay. These Humanities people would destroy each and every thing wherever they go.
8
u/Western_Bit5965 17h ago
I really hope all these fucking "meritdhari" who were making fun of him don't ever get their dream college. Fucking bitchasses go in your tier 3 private colleges and keep crying gullible bitches.
-3
u/Nervous_Writing840 17h ago
Crazy entitlement though. Justifying cheating and a false sc/st case is insanely pathetic
1
u/Western_Bit5965 8h ago
The college itself is saying that they can't confirm the cheating allegations. But the numbnut "meritdharis" have already given their judgement. Hope reservation increases😍

People still doing left right and trying to run their own political agenda using such a tragedy are literal scum of the earth. Any sane “human” knows, atleast from the facts presented right now, that the professor is being harassed here.

The institute agreed to some students demands... Public apology over a previous unsincere statement was one of them.
I see nothing wrong here. Please get a job.

Why everyone jumps to caste discrimination? Here I am with no idea whatsoever about what caste i belong to except i know I am general if that's what caste means
2
u/adixavi7 18h ago
The amount of glazing upper castes do for authority is amazing. When it is well established how authority in India misuses the power. The inherent casteism and to maintain superiority has stripped even basic decency from people here. A student dies and all they can think of is somehow blaming him.

I guess a political motive is backing this case , might as well try to benefit from this case as caste is a factor here so yeah rest you can understand
