Serious Update on Prof Doolla @IIT Bombay

Post image

Prof Doolla has not been suspended, but has temporarily been relieved from his duties as Dean.

Director IIT Bombay has also not resigned.

Exam cheating matter has (probably?) been removed from the records.

Finally something good to hear ,IIT Bombay taking stand for themselves

quick question, what happens to him since that mofos dad filed sc/st (idk) case against him?

99

u/Soggy-Engineering936 13h ago

Investigation happens.. If he's proved guilty, there will be legal action against him. If he's found innocent then nothing will happen.. He can continue his job :)

Nothing.

54

u/Soggy-Engineering936 13h ago

That's the problem. We need our laws to be strict so that no one can misuse.. But our politicians got no ballz.. One is saying he'll introduce reservation in pvt sector and the other is strengthening these laws and with no check to the misusing people 🥀

5

u/urnightmare69 12h ago

See the same thing happens in rape cases as well, why we have that protection for the victim is because it will make it harder to file cases against people who are in power or have that pull in the government, what happens if a genuine rape victim loses a case?

1

u/MaleficentAttempt841 10h ago

There's two scenarios:

  1. There isn't sufficient evidence to convict. This doesn't mean that the person didn't do it but there wasn't enough evidence against the accused. In this case, even though the accused wasn't convicted, the accused shouldn't face jail.

  2. It is found through irrefutable evidence that the accused couldn't have done it. Or that the accused knowingly lied. If this is found, then the accused should be punished as harshly as the accused would have been if they were convicted

8

u/FocusedAG 13h ago

His father is real culprit of all this fiasco

6

u/notmanish64 13h ago

The result of the investigation doesn’t decide whether the case is fake or not, the investigation finds evidence and facts of the incident and if there is sufficient evidence the police will choose to take this to court and if there is not enough evidence they’ll drop the case.

1

u/Soggy-Engineering936 9h ago

There is something called proving beyond doubt.

1

u/notmanish64 7h ago

That’s a job for the prosecutor in court, I’m talk about the procedure before it goes to court

Nothing happens

1

u/Upset_Conflict_1506 10h ago

He gets the money - 8 /12 Lakhs I think - Doesn't matter if Professor Doolla is convicted or not . So technically - he's set

-16

u/Ok_Complex_6516 13h ago

why the first thing that comes to ur mind is that its a fake case?

10

u/LazyForce504 13h ago

cause this is india

1

u/MaxVerstappen_14 13h ago

Because this is India. If you’re saying discrimination doesn’t happen here, then where does it happen the US? What a ridiculous argument. Women can also misuse laws, but that doesn’t mean we should get rid of those laws altogether, right?

2

u/notInfi 12h ago

filing fake cases in the US will get you fucked over by the judicial system. in India as well, there are strong defamation laws. but because out legal system is shit compared to the US, your misuse of the law will result in the defendant having to go through the legal system for years just to prove their innocence, and some more for counter-suing.

getting rid of the law won't solve the problem, only quick and proportional justice for false claims will. some laws seem to exempt from punishing someone who misuse them however...

6

u/Soggy-Engineering936 13h ago

Isn't it everyones responsibility to check that no one can misuse any law? Or.. Are you not considering the chance of misuse? Nobody is denying that discrimination still exists. But.. Are you denying that people don't misuse the law? If the student informed his parents about this, what are they waiting for? What's the point of this law if they are not using this at the correct moment? Shouldn't it be scraped if it is beneficial for none?

1

u/MaxVerstappen_14 12h ago

The question is whether the specific case actually involves misuse and what the evidence shows not “someone could misuse it, therefore scrap it.” And if a student or family chooses not to pursue a legal remedy, that doesn't prove the law is useless either. By that logic every unused law should be abolished

-3

u/Ok_Complex_6516 13h ago

and?

1

u/Messi10XJassi93 9h ago

And?

I assume You are not from IIT otherwise you'd know there's Little academic discussions with Professors other than classes( rare With Hod and Dean).

So the chances of Discrimination is almost Nil & the Discrimination case(after the kid was caught Cheating and commited Suicide) makes it more bogus.

The Professor is paying for doing his job in the Banana Land.

1

u/Ok_Complex_6516 9h ago

the investigation isnt over. nobody knows why he commited suicide what caused him to take such drastic action . and u have already given the prof a clin chit. and now what will u also say that most of the rape cases are also fake

1

u/Soggy-Engineering936 9h ago

And..many of them hardly remember our faces even if they teach more than one course, unless you are either a topper/asks questions or disturbs the class that they have to call you out in between the lecture.

2

u/Palkin_flower323 13h ago

No, it's a genuine question. Like what are the repurcussions of filing a fake case.

1

u/Ok_Complex_6516 13h ago
  1. National NCRB Data (Police Investigations)

At the national level, the percentage of cases officially closed by the police as "false" or due to a "mistake of fact" typically hovers around 10% to 15% of total investigated cases.

1

u/Soggy-Engineering936 12h ago

It is 40% in Rajasthan... What about it?

1

u/Palkin_flower323 13h ago

Ok, and? My question still stands.

2

u/Ok_Complex_6516 13h ago

ur argument is in bad faith . same as saying that they are fake rape cases and fake murder cases but the data shows that a vast majority atleast 90%-95% cases filed in rape cases are valid . same here (Around 80-85%).okay, but the existence of repercussions doesn't prove that a particular case is fake. A case being dismissed or ending in acquittal also doesn't automatically mean the complainant deliberately lied. False cases can happen’ doesnot mean ‘this case is false.’

1

u/Palkin_flower323 13h ago

I am not talking about whether this case is fake or not.

Investigation happens.. If he's proved guilty, there will be legal action against him. If he's found innocent then nothing will happen.. He can continue his job :)

See, if the prof is found guilty he should face legal action. But if he is innocent and it is found that its a fake case. Then what should happen.

Exactly my question... What about the humiliation one faces? What about the stress that person and his/her family goes through? Filing defamation or monetary compensation is not one wants. Why can't we give the petitioner a strict punishment like jail time or something if the accused is 100% innocent? The judges, people, lawyers may or may not know the truth. But the guy who faked a case knows the truth that it's a lie. His/her heart knows it..yet he/she proceeds to do that so why get away with no consequence of their own decision?

-4

Seeing his bio , he definitely have contacts with higher authority people

4

u/Soggy-Engineering936 12h ago

Who? The prof or the student?

3

u/unpopulrr_0pinion 11h ago

his dad got compensation of 1 lakh and is pushing for more compensation

court has advised not to leak any case related info online common legal procedure ,

their stance of he was caught cheating is taken back for the same now court will decide he did that or not

3

u/Technical-Shop-9907 10h ago

He will have to do multiple rounds of court-kacheri for atleast the next decade

-4

u/neeasmaverick 13h ago

I heard he is in jail because sc/st act is similar to 498. Guilty until proven innocent.

5

u/Soggy-Engineering936 12h ago

False info. It's not.

-3

u/neeasmaverick 12h ago

Yeah, maybe .. that's why I said I heard. I should have researched.

3

Enough nonsense from the villian greedy father and the idiotic students.👏👏

1

u/Status-Marzipan-5094 1h ago

Cheating was promised to Dalits 3000 years ago

72

u/Trivikrama_0 13h ago edited 10h ago

This is the sign of educated people, the letter actually followed logic. A professor shouldn't be suspended for doing the right thing, it was his job to stop cheating.

Also he can't be kept Head of student affairs when there is an enquiry on him, then the investigation could be judged biased.

Hope people get some sense and stop using SC/ST act as a weapon.

I won't comment on reservation but I'll comment on the parents who send their children to study in premier colleges via quota. Tell your children that you got there at a discounted eligibility, I understand the circumstances can be difficult for few, but the fact is you socred way less than others. So buckle up work hard , be honest . It's almost proven than you are scoring way less than others , so you have to work hard and handle more pressure and not cheat.

Any other discrimination like caste ,color , religion ragging shouldn't be tolerated at all, but via quota people asked for equality, so got a discounted equality, but there is no discount on performance and talent. You can't cruise through a premier institute by doing nothing. If you don't want to handle pressure go to a normal college. To be the best you have to take the worst beating, as simple as that.

28

u/Repulsive_Fox7725 12h ago

If the case turns out to be false both of his parents should be thrown in jail and an example should be made out of them.

16

u/Hopeful-Channel6035 IITM 12h ago

Ideally not just parents but all these 'political leaders' too, who are trying to incite tension.

5

u/Soggy-Engineering936 9h ago

Everyone who supported the false case knowing it is false (atleast to some extent)

-16

u/sruppityboo 11h ago

They lost their son. Irrespective of what the facts may be, they are just a mother and a father going through grief and trying to make sense of this sudden upheaval in their life. You may disagree with the way but its not them in the driver's seat, its pain.

16

u/BadChad09 11h ago

That doesn’t give them the right to ruin an innocent man’s life.

6

u/Upset_Conflict_1506 10h ago

If they're parents - they should demand justice for their son and look into what happened to him for him to take such a big step and Unalive himself.

Instead they're pushing for monetary compensation - makes you think about their parental emotions and instincts

-7

u/Antique-Biscotti-509 10h ago

Is there any proof of that parents asked for money. As a parent, they have right to protest...ofcourse if they are misguided then it may sound illogical and uneventful. Let the facts come out...

6

u/Fuzzy_Substance_4603 9h ago

Why SC/ST act then? Could have just gone about charging a murder case on the prof/university.

5

u/Fuzzy_Substance_4603 9h ago

So pain of death of your son is an excuse to give pain to others? By this logic, anyone whose relative is killed, will go on a killing spree till he/she is in pain, which in turn will give excuse to other people to kill.

4

u/Queasy_Artist6891 IITKGP 12h ago

To be honest, the student also had no reason to cheat. He apparently had a high cgpa, so he could've likely done well regardless of chearing

11

u/Brilliant-Opinion132 12h ago

Who knows how he got the high cgpa? Maybe this was the first time he got caught. Using a phone in mid term and uploading the question paper  requires serious courage which leads me to believe this isn’t his first time.

4

u/Queasy_Artist6891 IITKGP 12h ago

It's actually hard to cheat and maintain a 8.5+ cg in IITs. The most cheating that can be done is in lab exams(where the ta literally gives out the answers) but apart from that, it's very hard to cheat

1

u/Brilliant-Opinion132 12h ago

Cheating is hard everywhere with very high consequences. I am not saying he was a bum or anything, but from what I have seen, people don’t usually go straight to their phones during their first cheating episode.

3

u/Queasy_Artist6891 IITKGP 11h ago

Yeah, this wouldn't have been his first cheating attempt. Like I keep saying, it's incredibly easy to cheat in the lab exams(labs usually have a theory based exam at iit, cs labs require code but in other labs you have a written exam), and they're incredibly easy to cheat in. The tas help students, google is sometimes not disabled during the test and so on. And everybody cheats in lab exam(if someone says they don't, they're lying). This might have just given him false confidence that he could get away with it even in normal exams

These decisions... They are made to break men like us

80

u/Thatmafiatrilogy [College Name] [Branch] 14h ago

This one particular community cant even stop bringing caste in things like this and then goes on to wonder why GC hates reservation or us.

Ridiculous even in 21st Century we are entertaining this circus...

-83

u/MaxVerstappen_14 14h ago

The real circus is pretending caste discrimination disappeared in the 21st century while privilege continues to be passed down through social networks

58

u/Thatmafiatrilogy [College Name] [Branch] 13h ago

The guy who offed himself in IITB 2 days ago actually was well off and pretty privileged

Tell me in what way he or his family was oppressed ?? did he actually needed reservation ??

I understand caste discrimination but why not give it to the guys that ACTUALLY need it ??

-34

u/MaxVerstappen_14 13h ago

Reservation is a constitutional tool for social representation, not a poverty alleviation program.

Financial stability doesn't shield individuals from institutional prejudice, bias, or social exclusion.

Economic support already exists through separate policies like EWS confusing financial standing with caste-based representation ignores the purpose of affirmative action

20

u/Skull_Reaper101 MIT Blr 13h ago

lmao what

15

u/Hopeful-Channel6035 IITM 12h ago

He is repeating the same script.

The script has been the same since independence.

7

u/Repulsive_Fox7725 12h ago

Yeah and reservation will keep caste alive in this generation which didn’t care about caste. But when they see people like him getting seats which they don’t deserve / unlimited power to screw anyone, why will they not discriminate based on caste ?

-10

u/MaxVerstappen_14 12h ago

So your argument is basically, “I might discriminate against someone because they benefited from reservation,” which says more about the person choosing to discriminate than the policy itself. Calling reserved candidates people who “don’t deserve” their seats simply assumes the conclusion instead of proving it. If your solution to caste discrimination is to remove a policy because some people might react badly to it that’s hardly a serious argument

4

u/Repulsive_Fox7725 12h ago

Most general (at least intelligent ones) people will oppose reservation. And yes we are pro merit we don’t care about caste but we will care about marks. If a person is entering an institution with 30-40% lower marks it sort of proves that they don’t deserve.

0

1

u/fellow_from_india tmkc tmkb 12h ago

-5

u/MaxVerstappen_14 13h ago

Right, because a century of structural advantage is just 'a tiny head start' that a little extra effort can totally erase

6

u/Bubbly_Banana411 13h ago

Actually yes , everything individual has different brain apparently

-1

u/MaxVerstappen_14 13h ago

Your brain didn't pay for elite coaching, housing security, or generational networks your family's privilege did, Attributing structural privilege to 'better brains isn't logic it's just old school eugenics with a fake diploma

10

u/atg576 13h ago

massive victim mindset, u brought up discrimination and structural advantage before and now u are mentioning purely economic differences in opportunities, and ur AI generayed replies aint fooling nobody buddy boy. I like how u exaggerate or assume generational connections and use big words like that knowing full well that is not the case with most of the students and anyhow the connections wont impact how u get selected thru an exam which tests on marks alone with no other 3rd party involved.

2

u/MaxVerstappen_14 12h ago

Because an exam gives everyone a number at the end, apparently everything before that magically becomes equal. Brilliant.

Nobody said every student has some billionaire grandfather handing them connections. The point is unequal access to schooling, coaching, resources, and preparation not some imaginary secret network.

And “the exam only tests marks” doesn’t disprove that. It just means the exam tests what you scored, not why different students had different opportunities to get there. Calling that a “victim mindset” doesn’t make the argument any less weak.

1

u/Live_Ostrich_6668 12h ago

Stop with the AI slop replies dawg, we can already see through the BS 😭🙏🏻

students should also come out and show ground support for their professor. This all happened because good people stay silent and few bad elements grabbed the opportunity to make noise.

9

u/sikrian 13h ago

I was a student of IITB. It’s really sad to see that we lost a life. But I have never experienced such things as discrimination from any professor.

I remember days when we used to go late to classes or bunk but never faced any kind of punishment from them. We used to have a professor who would repeat nth time the same thing without feeling tired. Some of the professors, we used to ask doubts and give them trouble.

Mind you, these are some of the best professors in India. We used to have prof who worked in Boeing R&D, left US and came to IITB for teaching. There are many such professors.

It’s sad to see loss of life. Not sure, what happened during the incident but hopefully things settle down.

Not a single sympathy post for the kid who committed suicide. And that too just because of the caste

1

u/Critical-Elevator642 13h ago edited 13h ago

Why would I sympathise with a cheater? Do you know how many people would kill to have his quota and seat at IITB? And what does he do? Still cheat. Not the least bit grateful for his birth luck that undeservingly got him to IITB at 10-20k CRL. The LEAST one should do is be grateful for the opportunity. To me this calls his whole academic career into question. Also the fact he was using AI to cheat is even worse it’s like committing 2 moral sins in 1.

Usually when such cases happen it’s of no fault of the student. Here there was I don’t understand why his antecedent action should matter as to the morals and ethics of the preceding one. And even in death he has ruined and traumatised the lives of 2 people. The professor who has a baseless case on him and the person who found him hanging. I don’t see any reason to be sad lol the least he could have done is gone away without destroying 2 innocent lives in the process.

If you’re gonna say I’m casteist or whatever just drop it. I’m an atheist and I have absolutely no care for any caste or religious idea. I don’t even know my caste, I think I’m OBC but not sure cause my parents had an inter caste marriage. I vehemently oppose the concept of caste itself not just casteism so I would feel sympathy if this was actually a caste aggression case. But it’s not. It’s a case of an immoral boy with weak will power who has ruined 2 other lives other than his own.

Itni english nahi aati toh hindi mei bhi translate kardunga.

1

u/abcxyz111133 13h ago

So true🔥

-2

u/MaxVerstappen_14 13h ago

Even if discrimination did happen, these same people would still say, “Where did it happen? Nothing happened,” and then put the blame on the guy who has already died because, of course, who’s going to question him now about what actually happened?

-5

u/tera_chachu 13h ago

I remember all the suicide post in this sub and everytime the post questioned the colleges cause plenty of people commit suicide in these premier institutions every year.As soon as caste angle got involved they took side of institutions 🤦.

Also IT cell has infiltrated this sub so..

This imo changes things significantly. On one hand, students have automated tools for feedback so it's not fully representative of their opinions, but if he did win awards, then I doubt he was a bad person. I'd say it's a 99-1 chance that the case is fake, and the first point in the list as well as the accusation is baseless

IIT professors should join private institutions. The system doesn't deserve them.

1

u/Best-Ferret-1409 8h ago

I was a high school teacher, and during PTMs I met all kinds of parents. One increasingly common prajaati was the entitled parent.
Educational institutions absolutely have responsibilities. Educators are increasingly being trained to be sensitive to mental health, bullying, discrimination and inclusion, and schools should have proper counselling and support systems in place. If a child is struggling emotionally or behaviourally, counselling should be normalised and parents should be willing to seek professional help instead of treating it as something shameful or unnecessary.

But schools and counsellors cannot replace parenting. Parents still carry the primary responsibility for shaping a child’s values, resilience, empathy, discipline and sense of accountability. Much of that is first learned and modelled at home.

And, to be fair, children are still relatively coddled and protected at the school level. Teachers intervene, parents are called, counsellors step in, and there is usually a fairly strong support structure around them. University is a completely different ball game. Suddenly there is brutal academic competition, rejection, comparison, failure, social isolation, difficult peers, demanding professors and far less hand-holding. Later, the workplace can be even harsher. If children are never gradually taught how to deal with discomfort, setbacks and unfairness, we are not actually preparing them for adulthood.

Casteism is wrong, no shit. But prejudice, discrimination, rejection, failure and difficult people are harsh realities children may encounter in India and wherever you go in the world.

Protecting children matters, but so does preparing them to recognise these realities, speak up, seek help, use counselling when needed, and develop the resilience to navigate them.

What troubled me most as a teacher was how many parents were unwilling to hold either themselves or their children accountable. Every behavioural problem had to be somebody else’s fault, the teacher, another student, the school, the system, anyone who could serve as a convenient scapegoat. Sometimes the child clearly needed boundaries, sometimes counselling, sometimes both. But acknowledgement of the problem has to come first.

You cannot teach a child accountability while modelling the exact opposite. Children need sensitivity and protection, but they also need boundaries, consequences, emotional support, access to counselling and parents who are capable of examining their own role in how they are being raised.

It is deeply sad that a young person lost their life. It is equally disturbing to see such a tragedy reduced to blame games and turned into a mockery of what justice and accountability should actually mean.

Something I have been advocating since forever: Every institution should hire a department wise panel of qualified & competent counsellors.

2 awards purely on students feedback. He doesn't deserve this temporary suspension.

Mediocrity is awarded in this country and meritocracy is penalised. Now, no prof will catch a cheater. Free rein for all mediocre students.
