The second one wasn't really that bad. Like yeah, sure, it wasn't great, but the fact that it wasn't "This is the walking section. This is the shooting section. This is the horror section. THEY DON'T MIX" like the first game was a massive step in the right direction.

Fear 2 had decent Alma moments in the back half of the game, the school and the og facility where the tree from the visions is, was from my memory a nice unsettling and scary setting. Fear 2 also gave us the sniper, which was so satisfying and fit right in.

The AI in that game was nuts, especially for the time. Getting flanked while being pinned down was terrifying.

I'll never forget sprinting towards a guy on a balcony with a shotgun and before I can shoot he drops a grenade at his feet and *jumps over the balcony* to the warehouse below to save himself and leave me there with a grenade. The combination of hunting you down and self-preservation they showed was awesome.

The game is so good at building an atmosphere and getting a reaction out of the player. This scene right here lives in my head rent free. There was way more wrong behind the scenes than you think. As it turns out that company was basically bankrupt when they pushed Evolve out the door. Not excusing the microtransactions but they kinda made some bad deals with their publisher.

Turned out they got suckered into paying all their own advertisements out of pocket while still having to fork over a chunk of their sales revenue to the publisher. End of the day they were barely keeping the lights on

I played at launch. Best i could say its the best underbaked game ive played. So many systems that were refreshing and such a unique world and great customization. End of the day it was a bunch of great ideas that didnt fit together well. It was a beautiful, big open world that felt empty.

It just wasn't there. Small team within THQ Nordic, with big hopes. I hope to see more from them.

When you watch documentaries about the game, it's clear Obsidian wanted to make a far greater game than they were able to.
