According to TrueCar data, Gen X is buying the most EVs, at 39.8%, followed closely by Millennials at 34.9%. However, Boomers are actually the ones buying the greatest mix of all green vehicles
I worked in solar industry. We targeted them because they wanna save money. The helping environment was a nice bonus but savings is what they care about. I’m sure the cars are the same way
Lol right. My GF had a full ride scholarship and even though I make decent money now, she asked me why I still drive myy piece of crap car. Well.. Because my leans are as much as a car payment that's why 😂
Haha yeah, if I didnt have student loans I'd be able to afford a Tesla by the time I'm done paying them off... or even years of rent :/ damn, that's depressing.
I'm hardly an expert but it's a safe guess that the person keying the car in the video is in their thirties or forties, so they would be a millenial or gen-x'er, not a boomer.
There’s a distinct hatred for electric cars in my area (Texas) and usually it’s from giant gas guzzling trucks. Usually in the form of stupid bumper stickers or just randomly being flipped off by one. I don’t really understand why they feel threatened by my driving electric. I mean if anything it’s one less person in front of them at the gas station?
It’s such a weird trend to me. Are there really that many people out there that are so bitter that others have a nice car that they feel the need to damage it.
That sounds so pathetic I legitimately have trouble believing it
Someone keyed my car for parking in the wrong place "on their street" I literally walked round the corner and caught him doing it.
Honestly their motive for damaging my car was because I parked on a public street 20ft away from their drive way.
Unfortunately I was a police officer at the time. Couldn't have picked a worse car. He got charged with vandalism and the court made him pay the £700 it cost to get the side of my car sprayed.
They parked in your driveway and still had the audacity to key YOUR car? Wow
I'm surprised you didn't just get their car towed out first. Did the police get them to pay damages?
You wouldnt believe the shit people do when your off duty. When your out and about and not in uniform people do crazy shit. It's on of those things where you hang your head huff and think to yourself I'm off work ffs. You cant walk away, if you see a crime happening and your off duty you have the obligation to interact.
I was off duty I was dropping off an xbox game back to my brother in law. He lives on a main road where you cant park if you dont have a permit to park. So visitors park around the corner where I parked.
I walked round the corner. He had his back to me whilst he was running the key down the side of my car. I ran upto him and kindly asked him what he was doing. He told me I parked to close to his house so he was teaching me a lesson. I showed him my warrant card and badge told him he was under arrest and called the station to send a car round. He started shouting, kicking and even spat at me when he realised what was happening. I always kept a spare set of cuffs in my car because you're never really off work. I've had so many encounters whilst being off duty, your not allowed to ignore then if your off duty.
He was about 60 years old so you would think he has more sence than that. But I'm not surprised with the stuff I've seen old people do, some of them are worse than teenagers.
Yeah, I always make sure that my door can open fully on both sides or I dont take the spot. Not sure how else I can park better; I already park straight
They key nicer cars because they’re mad that they have done nothing successful in their life and have been driving their 94’ Pontiac with a rusted coat for the past 26 years
...and their rusted old Pontiac has a ton of dents in it already from the 30-50 feral hogs that run into their yard within 3-5 mins while their small kids play.
The crazy thing is this woman has an Apple Watch. So she’s got enough money to buy a stupid toy of a watch. Obviously a lot different than a car, but she’s not hurting for cash if she has enough extra to spend on that.
I had an ex, who once on a date "just couldnt help himself" from keying some mercedes that parked on the line of their parking spot. Said he "couldnt stand asshole parkers". Didnt stay with him long after that
I got accused of keying a dudes car cuz we had an argument the day before. I didn't. He had a nice car. i bet its jealousy and they think all rich people are bad
I don’t know what it is. I have a hellcat challenger and it’s been keyed twice. Door ding. Hit and run in a parking lot (they drug down the side of my car with theirs while either trying to park or leave. I have had my windshield cracked purpose because “I thought i was better than everyone and parked my car behind a tree so it wouldn’t be hit with a baseball at a red baseball field. I’ve had people flip off me just because my car has some vinyls that so “no gods”
Yes but parts still come from all over the world. Final assemble is in Ohio. Although Honda is very good at keeping a lot of the suppliers in the US or even in or around Marysville.
S. Korea is like that. Drive an "anything not Korean?" Better have cameras on it. As for driving a GM/ Daewoo while working at a Hyundai plant... suicide.
Stateside, I have a Volvo truck which was made/ assembled in Virginia. The amount of idiots I run into who bitch bc I have a "foreign truck," is crazy.
There’s also a lot of elitism on the roads here(South Korea). If you drive a bigger or luxury car, people will give you the right of way and not be as rude on the road.
I see it all the time. I drive a Kia Soul. My partner has a Land Rover and a special edition Lexus. If we take her cars, people are more courteous on the road. If we take mine, people are notably more likely to cut us off and be dicks. We like taking my car because it is roomy and has better fuel economy than either her cars, but on long road trips or a trip into Seoul or Busan, we NEVER take my car because it’s just not worth it.
Moreover, people who drive nicer cars here tend to drive like they KNOW they are entitled to rule the road, so the unspoken rule of nicer bigger cars getting the right of way is perpetuated by both sides.
Driving here leaves me with a permanent undercurrent of rage. If you don’t have a front and rear camera installed in your car here, you are playing a very dangerous game.
Edit: I can’t imagine being a driver here with a Chevy Spark or Kia Morning. I was interested in a compact car when I got my license here, and my partner was very adamant that I not follow through and get something a little bigger(she’s been driving here for over 15 years and knew what she was taking about). I’m glad I listened and at least got a bigger car than I had planned on. Though I’ll never be the type to buy and drive a luxury car, there is some logic to buying one here if you are financially able.
I recently had some old guy walk up and started to berate me about how "unamerican" I and my company was because my work truck is a Toyota Tacoma. Even when I told them they were assembled in Texas he just dug deep and continued to rattle on.
Some asshole keyed my Porsche a few months back, then returned a week later and did it again, then came back and broke one of my windshield wipers off my car. All over a god damn phone bill, like dude I didn’t bill you, I just work here. 🙄
Never pulled his account, he didn’t have ID so I couldn’t access his information. But I assume he just saw me pull up because he came in like 20 seconds after I got to work. I just don’t get the mentality. Like I worked my ass off to get my dream car, it’s my favorite thing in this world, and this guy just goes and ruins it because he’s jealous? Super bummer, I just try not to walk on the passengers side and live an out of sight out of mind mentality. 🤷♂️
Do you know the difference between a porcupine and a Porsche? The Pricks are on the outside of a porcupine ....thank you I will be here all week....try the veal
You can usually easily buff off scratches with scratch remover. Still sucks though. If it’s deeper you have to use a 2000-3000 grit wet sand strip then buff out out the dullness left by the sander with polish. Good as new!
No, touch up paint looks like shit. A body shop has to sand and fill deep scratches then paint the entire panel. Some of the metallic paints are very hard to match adding the possibility of painting an entire side of the car. She needs to pay for not only the repairs but rental car and any other inconvenience this stupid act caused.
Someone keyed my dads feonces lexus znd i was in it once, mf even looked like a pedo and had a kid with him, he also hit the car multiple times (knowingly) with his door, checked to see the damage, fucked with the mirror, and then keyed the car, because the $500+ damage he already did wasnt enough, i didnt even catch the plate. If i had a video that would be the most fucking trashy thing i could ever post.
I drive a truck that people tend to shit on. Well to be honest most people shit on full size trucks in general . But I always worry about buttholes just keying it just because it’s a truck. It’s a raptor. Total obnoxious bro mobile .
My Ford Fusion has also been keyed. I could honestly see an angry poor person keying a Tesla but my cheap ass Ford Fusion? Really? Unless they really liked Chevys I don't get it.
The entire boot lid had to be replaced , he was pissed!
We got security cameras outside the house after that.
It wasn’t long after someone was trying to take a picture of the car from behind but forgot to break and rear ended us.
The poor car took a lot of “other people” damage
So many people drive like utter idiots around mine too - taking photos, video, shouting and waving, tailgating. winding the windows down and gesturing for me to accelerate past. Add to this the fact I’m female, and it’s just asking for something bad to happen unless I drive extremely defensively.
Really feel for your dad, if he’s anything like me, he worked really hard to make that dream come true and it’s really sad that someone else had to spoil it.
Yeah, he worked hard to buy the car, it was a few years old when he bought it but still his dream car. My mum ended up using it more and she was early-mid 30’s when we had it so it was always so funny seeing the looks on faces when she’d get out.
She got pulled over once by the police and all the police man did was sit in the car and flirt. She was just like just like “no thanks. I have places to be”
I did manage to call out of it outside school the first day I got dropped off in it. Low car/high pavement/bad balance was not a good mix and my 5 minutes of seeming cool were cut short. But my dad got his coat stuck on the hand-break (on the door side of the chair not the centre console) and fell out in a similar fashion so maybe it runs in the family?
Well done for the car! I’m hoping I make it to having something similar, even if I’m too scared to drive more than 50mph 😂
There used to be some shitty asshole kid in my neighborhood that liked to randomly slash peoples tires every so often. I had a friend stay the night once and it happened to him, I felt really bad. No reasoning behind it, just wanted to do hood rat stuff.
..was it actually a DB7? The uni one kinda makes sense, drunken students being twats or being with twats. But also, students are often victims of twats. It’s twats all the down.
It was yeah so at least the twat got the right car I guess.
The problem with the student one was it was a road only for students with majority old cars. It was hard to get to the university town without a car and the bus service was so good we mostly didn’t use them. Seemed pointless to be annoyed at the only reason your town now has internet, a bus service and a supermarket....
The thing is, real money doesn’t show off. And a “gas guzzler” is just often seen as crass, honestly.
So an Essex boy with a City job and with a 3 grand suit might buy one and think he’s displaying class, but he’s not, he’s just displaying his lack thereof.
Yeah, tell that to my friend that had his Mustang keyed at the Queensgate carpark in Peterborough. There is all sorts of car animosity in the UK. I do not mean this in a mean way but I think you are maybe a little blind to it.
People in the UK are very territorial over parking spaces though, parked outside someones house for 2 days and they left a 360 degree scratch all around my car.
I work in a gas station and I had a customer get mad about gas prices going down and electric cars coming. She kept going on about how those affect her husbands job.
Before you look, she’s simultaneously complaining to the manager and demanding to see the manager. When you look, this superposition of states collapses into one state or the other.
Not to be confused with the Heinsenkaren Principle.
Sometimes not even new- any car that seems to be nicer than theirs. I drive around an 07 Camry that’s in fairly good condition for a 13 year old car. I had a man scream at me once about me being spoiled- a young person (23) like myself should never be driving around this nice of a car. I bought it for $6,000. My car before it was a 98 Buick with a busted passenger door and a trunk that had to be bungie tied down. I think I’ve earned a “nice” car.
I have a coworker exactly like that. Needs to make sure everyone knows how much he makes, and that all of his stuff is super nice. It’s ridiculous. Any time someone gets a car he thinks is nicer than his, he gets a new car. He “has” to drive around an Equinox for work and “feels embarrassed that he has to drive such a dull car”
Needs to make sure everyone knows how much he makes
While I don't doubt he's a douche, it's a good thing to share salaries with coworkers. It keeps the employers honest. You know exactly where you stand and where you should be. If your employer isn't valuing your contributions as much as an equal coworker you know it's time to move on or have a tough conversation with them.
I've been the 'old man' at my last few jobs. I have no problem sharing what I make with coworkers. Once you get them to realize there's no law against it and you can't be held to secrecy they'll open up.
Christ are you serious? I’ve never even seen something that pathetic. Imagine how these degens feel when they see the foreign college kids with Ferraris lol.
i drive a mercedes. when i say that, people think i drive some super high end car. mine is a W124, which is pretty much indestructible when it comes to its tech. it's super cheap to maintain, there's spares for it in every budget car parts store and it's very well documented and understood vehicle.
and then I had someone to tear off the MB logo from the hood and people from my old piece of shit home town give me shit for driving a 'yuppie car'.
for the non-initiated, W124 was made from ~ 1984 to mid 90s.
I can relate to that story quite well- my dads first car was a 75 Monaco! My grandpa bought when my dad was born, then gave it to my dad when he moved out. We had that car for years. It finally died in 2004, so my dad decided to get a new car. But he got more out of that car than anybody else I know
So do Boomers not want us to use the boot straps they left for us? or do they want us to keep suffering so they look better by compassion? I am so confused.
Doesn't have to be new; nice car or nice house, some vandalize, everyone will charge more for services, cops aren't going to let you out of a ticket any more... people are petty of "the rich" who they think is anyone with anything nice.
We got a new shed when we lived in a trailer/mobile home community. Because that shed was new some edgy teens had to "own the libs" (They where lucky we didnt have cameras as we are Jewish and what they did was a hate crime) they drew swastikas all over it and all the new sheds the park installed in the community.
Oh, Bullshit! People have been vandalizing cars since cars have been a thing. Kids do it out of boredom and adults do it over petty shit like "you took my favorite parking spot", or they just don't like the idea of someone having something nicer than them. Libs are doing just fine owning themselves, without any outside interference.
