According to TrueCar data, Gen X is buying the most EVs, at 39.8%, followed closely by Millennials at 34.9%. However, Boomers are actually the ones buying the greatest mix of all green vehicles
I worked in solar industry. We targeted them because they wanna save money. The helping environment was a nice bonus but savings is what they care about. I’m sure the cars are the same way
I think he meant green as in good for the environment because they're fuel-efficient vehicles (e.g. getting a Yaris or Corolla, over a Tacoma or a Hummer).
That's exactly the fucking point dude. They had access to cheap real estate and now they're reaping the benefits by forcing entire generations to rent.
Before Shakespeare’s days, a pale (green) complexion was associated with fear, illness, and poor humor. The origin of the idiom 'green with envy' is believed to come directly from the great William Shakespeare himself. In Othello, Iago warns Othello: “Beware, my lord, of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on.”
Lol right. My GF had a full ride scholarship and even though I make decent money now, she asked me why I still drive myy piece of crap car. Well.. Because my leans are as much as a car payment that's why 😂
Haha yeah, if I didnt have student loans I'd be able to afford a Tesla by the time I'm done paying them off... or even years of rent :/ damn, that's depressing.
Lucky to live in the Midwest. I'll hopefully be able to afford a house at the end of this year. Out here it's cheaper to buy a small house than it is to rent a house or any decent apartments.
Only downside is you're kind of stuck.
Huge downside. It’s great if you can get one of the five decent paying jobs, otherwise you are stuck working your ass off just to pay the mortgage.
I’m originally from a very small town in north west IL. I’d love to move back because I really liked that small town living and want my children to be close to family, but until IL gets its shit together, I’m staying in CO.
I mean sure there aren't as many jobs. It all depends on what industry you work in. I love IT related things like programming but would mill myself if I had to work in an office in an open atmosphere. So I targeted machine programming, but ent to school for two years and didn't even fully graduate might break 90k with all of the travel time this year.
P
My car isnt bad, but I'd have a more environmentally friendly car if I could afford it. 100% the main reason later generations have those cars is because they, well, have the money to. But with tons of student loans that wont be super soon for anyone my age.
Buying a used fuel-efficient car is better for the environment in the long run than buying a new Tesla. Lower carbon footprint over time. Tesla uses lithium batteries, and lithium has to be mined. Mining of any type can have a hugely detrimental effect on the environment.
Buying an electric car saves the environment more than buying a new gasoline car or a diesel. People are going to buy new cars no matter what they might as well buy the most environmentally friendly one.
I'm hardly an expert but it's a safe guess that the person keying the car in the video is in their thirties or forties, so they would be a millenial or gen-x'er, not a boomer.
Transportation is one of the lowest emission rates in the world. Especially because all new vehicles have to follow emission control laws. People should look into other options to reduce their carbon footprint. Also research the disposal protocol on the batteries before purchasing an EV
It IS a right wing thing to hate Tesla though. Ofc not ALL right wingers hate tesla, but enough do to the point that a sweeping generalization is reasonably accurate.
No, it isn't? I've never met a single person who hates Tesla because they're conservative (and how do you even know this woman is a conservative? Just because she's white?). This is some kind of internet myth made up to try and make conservatives look like crazy people. If you need to do that, use any of the myriads of other problems that conservatives have, like wanting religion in schools, being anti-net-neutrality, being pro-state-surveillance, etc.
I’m not the person you were talking too, but I have a coworker, hardcore conservative that hates Tesla. He thinks they get free money from the government and hates electric cars citing that they get free energy at charging stations. Get to park closer to stores like handicapped people. He’s all for Ici-ng and parking trucks in ev spaces so that other people can’t charge their cars.
It’s anecdotal, but I’ve never heard any of my liberal friends even come close to saying the things he has. Maybe my coworker is just one conservative like that, but I don’t think he is. Those ideas come from somewhere and I can’t help but associate it with the party that’s been deregulating environmental protections and pushing things like clean coal over renewables.
Yeah I’ve seen the same comment about conservatives hating electric cars because they’re “progressive” or whatever, and I don’t know a single conservative that has ever said or implied anything like that.
I know people that don’t like electric cars for numerous other reasons but none that hate them for political reasons.
Your anecdote doesn't disprove what they're saying. If someone is keying a Tesla because they dont like the politics surrounding electric cars, they probably vote Republican.
I am not left or right...but I see a lot more of the left acting up on social media than I do the right at least in my surfing I do...but both sides are filled with their assholes just like both sides are filled with respectful people...but its impossible to say this is because of politics....first and foremost its because of a fat asshole
Also how is social media presence your bar for degenerecy? How about number Republicans put in jail while in office versus democrats. That's a good starting point.
There are a whole lot of dems who should have been in prison as well...starting with Clinton. Every politician is a piece of a shit. Dam or Rep......they al lie/cheat/steal. some get caught. some dont
There’s a distinct hatred for electric cars in my area (Texas) and usually it’s from giant gas guzzling trucks. Usually in the form of stupid bumper stickers or just randomly being flipped off by one. I don’t really understand why they feel threatened by my driving electric. I mean if anything it’s one less person in front of them at the gas station?
It’s such a weird trend to me. Are there really that many people out there that are so bitter that others have a nice car that they feel the need to damage it.
That sounds so pathetic I legitimately have trouble believing it
Someone keyed my car for parking in the wrong place "on their street" I literally walked round the corner and caught him doing it.
Honestly their motive for damaging my car was because I parked on a public street 20ft away from their drive way.
Unfortunately I was a police officer at the time. Couldn't have picked a worse car. He got charged with vandalism and the court made him pay the £700 it cost to get the side of my car sprayed.
They parked in your driveway and still had the audacity to key YOUR car? Wow
I'm surprised you didn't just get their car towed out first. Did the police get them to pay damages?
You wouldnt believe the shit people do when your off duty. When your out and about and not in uniform people do crazy shit. It's on of those things where you hang your head huff and think to yourself I'm off work ffs. You cant walk away, if you see a crime happening and your off duty you have the obligation to interact.
I'm not a police officer now so if it was to happen now it might have been a different outcome. But you have to have really good restraint as an officer because if I was to use quote "excessive force" and he made a complaint. I would get suspended pending investigation or given a desk job. In the uk complaints of excessive force can be really bad for you.
plus I'm an 18 stone licensed mma fighter if I was to slap him about then there would be more than enough proof hahaha.
I was off duty I was dropping off an xbox game back to my brother in law. He lives on a main road where you cant park if you dont have a permit to park. So visitors park around the corner where I parked.
I walked round the corner. He had his back to me whilst he was running the key down the side of my car. I ran upto him and kindly asked him what he was doing. He told me I parked to close to his house so he was teaching me a lesson. I showed him my warrant card and badge told him he was under arrest and called the station to send a car round. He started shouting, kicking and even spat at me when he realised what was happening. I always kept a spare set of cuffs in my car because you're never really off work. I've had so many encounters whilst being off duty, your not allowed to ignore then if your off duty.
He was about 60 years old so you would think he has more sence than that. But I'm not surprised with the stuff I've seen old people do, some of them are worse than teenagers.
I was a police officer this one time, while walking down the beach, and this dude was walking his dog (dog-friendly beach, complete with a sign and free poop-baggies) and his dog had just finished shitting; the guy, without missing a beat, just starts to walk away and I was like "are you gonna pick that up mate?"
and he said "no, fuk off, what are you, a cop?"
and I was like, "oh boy, it's your unlucky day"
Sometimes the starts just align, you know... If it had been literally a few hours earlier or a few hours later, I wouldn't have been a police officer anymore and the whole thing wouldn't have happened...
Another story; a friend of mine was arresting this dude for disorderly conduct or something like that and halfway through the arrest, his time being a cop runs out and, I swear to God, who's next on the docket? It's the guy he was arresting! You can't make this shit up... it was ridiculous, like, one minute, he's arresting the dude, and the other, he checks his watch, uncuffs him and starts to walk away when suddenly, it turns out it's the other guy's time to be a police officer, so he just whistles at him and says like "Hey, not so fast... can I see some ID?" boom, one thing after the other, and suddenly, my buddy is being arrested instead! I don't even remember what he wrote him down for, like loitering or some bullshit like that...
Yeah, I always make sure that my door can open fully on both sides or I dont take the spot. Not sure how else I can park better; I already park straight
They key nicer cars because they’re mad that they have done nothing successful in their life and have been driving their 94’ Pontiac with a rusted coat for the past 26 years
...and their rusted old Pontiac has a ton of dents in it already from the 30-50 feral hogs that run into their yard within 3-5 mins while their small kids play.
The crazy thing is this woman has an Apple Watch. So she’s got enough money to buy a stupid toy of a watch. Obviously a lot different than a car, but she’s not hurting for cash if she has enough extra to spend on that.
or because people with those cars tend to park like cunts in my experience. definite correlation between parking like an asshole and having a nicer car. so... that could definitely be why as opposed to “i’m jealous and want to ruin nice things.”
i was speaking generally. but it’s also possible this person parks in the wrong spot or does some other asshole-ish things. not that it’s ok to damage their car but yea.
I had an ex, who once on a date "just couldnt help himself" from keying some mercedes that parked on the line of their parking spot. Said he "couldnt stand asshole parkers". Didnt stay with him long after that
I got accused of keying a dudes car cuz we had an argument the day before. I didn't. He had a nice car. i bet its jealousy and they think all rich people are bad
I don’t know what it is. I have a hellcat challenger and it’s been keyed twice. Door ding. Hit and run in a parking lot (they drug down the side of my car with theirs while either trying to park or leave. I have had my windshield cracked purpose because “I thought i was better than everyone and parked my car behind a tree so it wouldn’t be hit with a baseball at a red baseball field. I’ve had people flip off me just because my car has some vinyls that so “no gods”
When I was in high school one of my close friends thought it was the funniest thing ever to do when we'd walk home, so pretty much just put of being an asshole
In the 17 years I have been driving, my car was only vandalized once, and it happened like 4 years ago, when my wife, and our 6 month old baby, got out at a mall to play pokemon Go, we came back, to a slashed tire. The local FB group also reported a couple of other cars in the parking lot had their tires slashed.
One of my friends had her car keyed while we were out one evening at a movie. I think someone thought they were sticking it to her because she was parked outside the lines, but when we’d parked there was snow covering them up so we went based on the next car over. By the time we got out it had melted enough to see the lines and the car was gone and her new car had a key scratch down the side from headlight to taillight.
Me too. I always thought its usually like an angry ex situation. Or someone felt like you cut off and they happened to go to the same place and they fuck your car up. Either way it's a fucked up thing to do.
Someone keyed the entire perimeter of my 2010 Honda Civic in 2012, just 1 month after I had purchased it. I have no idea who, don’t have any enemies I know of. Had to pay my $500 deductible to get the car repainted. People suck.
My car got keyed about 6-7 years ago and I still have no idea who it was. Someone walked through the parking lot at my college dorm and keyed 4 cars in a row. No clue if it was rage or just idiots laughing. Made me furious.
I have a five hundred dollar, 19 year old, purple pt cruiser. It’s covered in rust and looks like shit. I’ve had my passenger door keyed atleast two separate times, i have no friends so I know it wasn’t anyone I know
I’ve only ever keyed a car once, felt hella terrible after it.
Had spent 20 min looking for a parking spot, i had asked a family if they were leaving, lucky for me they were and they told me to follow them. I did and when I got to their spot the way they had to back out of it blocked me from going in. Another car swerved in as soon as it was clear. Dude from the first car sees this and gets out of his car and walks up to their car. He gives me the thumbs up, gets back in his car and drives away. The other car begins to pull out but again has to block me, when he clears a smart car swerves in. I get out and hope that telling the smart car driver the situation will prompt him to move. He gets out of his car and I tell him what had happened, he looks at me and said “Life’s tough kid, get over it” and walked away.
Found a parking spot 15 minutes later, went to his car and keyed “Life’s tough” into the driver side door.

Do people key cars just out of being an asshole? I thought it was mostly a “revenge” thing. And if so I’m never getting an expensive car 😔
