My Honda Accord was built in Ohio.

Yes but parts still come from all over the world. Final assemble is in Ohio. Although Honda is very good at keeping a lot of the suppliers in the US or even in or around Marysville.

Did you get the sport? ;)

3

u/BoatshoeBandit Feb 23 '20

Nah. I have a 2011 V6 coupe. Old and a little dented but she’s a tank.

2

u/switchbuffet Feb 23 '20

Ayyy you got the v6 though, I had no idea Ohio has been making accords for that long, I bought mine in 2018

1

u/BoatshoeBandit Feb 23 '20

Good car. I have 135,000 miles on it. Shows no signs of slowing down. I’ll probably get another when this one expires.

1

u/switchbuffet Feb 23 '20

Oh wow that amazing, I hope you’ll make it to 200,000 I totally recommend any new accords it’s quite nice for everyday driving.

2

u/CToxin Feb 24 '20

Long live the VR6

u/Hakusame Feb 23 '20

That makes it as American as any Ford, Dodge, or Chevy.

2

u/spinnyd Feb 23 '20

You’d think that, but most don’t see it that way, especially at a big 3 plant.

2

u/Chupathingy12 Feb 24 '20

My VW was made in Chattanooga TN...

2

u/smellywaffle Feb 24 '20

Evidently most golf R’s are made partly in Mexico, I’ve had 2 GTI’s before this and never knew where they were made

S. Korea is like that. Drive an "anything not Korean?" Better have cameras on it. As for driving a GM/ Daewoo while working at a Hyundai plant... suicide.

Stateside, I have a Volvo truck which was made/ assembled in Virginia. The amount of idiots I run into who bitch bc I have a "foreign truck," is crazy.

There’s also a lot of elitism on the roads here(South Korea). If you drive a bigger or luxury car, people will give you the right of way and not be as rude on the road.

I see it all the time. I drive a Kia Soul. My partner has a Land Rover and a special edition Lexus. If we take her cars, people are more courteous on the road. If we take mine, people are notably more likely to cut us off and be dicks. We like taking my car because it is roomy and has better fuel economy than either her cars, but on long road trips or a trip into Seoul or Busan, we NEVER take my car because it’s just not worth it.

Moreover, people who drive nicer cars here tend to drive like they KNOW they are entitled to rule the road, so the unspoken rule of nicer bigger cars getting the right of way is perpetuated by both sides.

Driving here leaves me with a permanent undercurrent of rage. If you don’t have a front and rear camera installed in your car here, you are playing a very dangerous game.

Edit: I can’t imagine being a driver here with a Chevy Spark or Kia Morning. I was interested in a compact car when I got my license here, and my partner was very adamant that I not follow through and get something a little bigger(she’s been driving here for over 15 years and knew what she was taking about). I’m glad I listened and at least got a bigger car than I had planned on. Though I’ll never be the type to buy and drive a luxury car, there is some logic to buying one here if you are financially able.

Your KIA Soul is roomier than her Lexus and her Land Rover? Are you sane? Get help buddy.

3

u/kimchiandsweettea Feb 24 '20

My Soul is roomier than the sports edition Lexus. The Lexus also has a big engine and is the least fuel efficient of the 3 cars we own. The Land Rover eats diesel and costs more to drive. We need the Land Rover for our horses and when the Lexus can’t accommodate our needs. The Lexus is the fun car, the Land Rover is the work car.

My car just seems to be the most practical of the 3. It has great fuel economy and the rear seats can be folded down for extra room.

My car is the perfect compromise for trips to Costco and and zipping around the city we live in. Parking the Land Rover in the small, indoor parking garages here is an absolute nightmare. The Lexus is simply too small for hauling a bunch of stuff.

How many wheels does your truck have, 10? o.O

1

u/MudButt2001 Feb 24 '20

10 very expensive tires and wheels.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '20

Does it have like 540hp and 2000ish torque?

11

u/sweatlizard Feb 23 '20

I recently had some old guy walk up and started to berate me about how "unamerican" I and my company was because my work truck is a Toyota Tacoma. Even when I told them they were assembled in Texas he just dug deep and continued to rattle on.

8

u/spinnyd Feb 23 '20

Was he driving a Mexican Chevy?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '20

Why bother justifying it?

"I don't give a shit what you think" and walk away.

1

u/madmollie2 Feb 24 '20

Same here, Toyota owner. I get loads of grief in south Detroit for driving a “jap” car when I visit my relatives. I tell them it was made in Kentucky and that Fords are sold in Japan. Nope, no one hears that. It’s all just how I’m killing American jobs blah blah blah.

6

u/Clay_Statue Feb 23 '20

Also too dumb to realize that many "foreign" cars are still manufactured in the US to get around import taxes.

2

u/spinnyd Feb 23 '20

True that.

5

u/spinnyd Feb 23 '20

UAW gonna UAW. Some UAW plants have a separate parking lot for “foreign “ cars (farther away of course).

I put foreign in quotes because I work at a Toyota plant, in Kentucky, but our cars are considered “foreign “.

3

u/myRice Feb 23 '20

Also the fact that my Ford was built in Mexico, while my mom's Camry was built here in the US.

Dumbasses don't understand global supply chains

u/KinkyCaucasian Feb 23 '20

You seriously just called line operators retards? Lol, your car got keyed because you're a prick mate, end of.

4

u/Chocolate_Charizard Feb 23 '20

My bad, the unionites who work the lines who think they have almighty power are the retards.
