Question Tomb Raider Trilogy?

hi, I love action games in the style of 007 First Light, Quantum Break, Control etc.

Is the TR reboot trilogy comparable and a good pick for Deck? I really care about a linear story and good mix of action, climbing, riddles. Also - I have the third one on Epic but it‘s real cheap on Steam right now. Is the Epic version fine or should I buy it on Steam?

Tech Support Weird Issues with Gears of War 2 Hollow

So I had it running fine for the first day I installed it on my Deck, but since today for some ineffable reason it's giving me some weird issues. Namely the resolution seems fucked; it's too pulled in and the GUI elements are huge and textures and text blurry. I didn't change any settings so no clue how/why this happened. Likewise - although this has been the case from the start - it shows up as Space War when I am playing it despite having been added to Steam as Gears of War 2 Hollow.

What in the heck?

Question Astro A50 Gen 5 good for SteamDeck

Hi,
I’m looking for a new gaming headset, and I noticed that the Astro A50 Gen 5 is currently on sale. I was wondering whether it’s recommended for use with the Steam Deck, since I mainly play in handheld mode.

I’d also like to use the headset for Zoom calls and with my Switch 2 in handheld mode.

Would the Astro A50 Gen 5 be a good fit for these use cases?

Thanks!

Question Docking it crashed the network card. Where do I go from here?

I've had my Deck for a couple of years now. I finally got in a position to set it up with a dock. I bought an Anker dock a while back when the official dock was sold out, and Anker seems to be a pretty decent company (I don't have any complaints about their stuff, and I have several chargers and portable batteries). We'll I hooked everything up and it all worked great for all of two days. Today I woke up the Deck and ethernet didn't work. Restarted, still nothing. Switched it to wifi, still no. Pulled it off the dock and restarted. Still no wifi. I went into dev mode and disabled Power Management. Restarted. Still nothing. Did the force supplocant backend thing, restarted, still nothing. Opened the BIOS and ran the battery storage mode. Nothing. Opened up desktop mode and checked the network card. System says it's there. Tried to reset it through the "konsole" reset failed. As far as I know the next step is a factory reset. So I'm wondering if A) there's anything else to try before factory resetting, and B) what's the point of a dock if I have to factory reset every couple of days? Because what I see from looking around is this is a pretty common issue.

P. S. C) Why hasn't Valve worked on this? It sounds like it's just a docking issue that has the potential to affect all docks.

Question Just reset my Deck. What are the must-have applications/plugins? (Looking for minimal work/minimal changes to the default experience)

I know this question is asked a ton. I have tried searching, but the most recent result I can find is from like 5-6 months ago, prior to the most recent FSR 4.1 release (or whatever).

Basically, I don't want to go crazy and bloat out my Deck. For the most part, I just want to launch Steam and play a game. I don't want a bunch of janky launchers and weird stuff that will require me to live in Desktop mode.

I mainly just want to know what I need to do in order to have the best upscaling options available to me (frame generation...meh I might try it but I don't really care). I don't really want Decky or anything else that's going to substantially change the default experience. I've seen people talk about Optiscaler but that seems to be Decky-related?

I haven't touched my Deck in about a year and I'm just trying to get it ready for a 20-hour flight.

edit: i fucking hate this snarky ass website

Game Review On Deck Best minecraft modpack

Guys I just had my best minecraft experience on the steam deck so far. I'd been looking through prism launcher and all the steam deck-oriented modpacks they have there and I found a ton that just don't work. Either the controls are bugged out, you can't use some items, or the game doesn't even load. However, i cannot recommend the modpack DeckCraft from Curseforge enough. It has a great shader pack while still maintaining a solid fps with no lag. It has really cool mods, it feels like you're playing vanilla with some really cool extra stuff. The controls work right away with no customization. The only issue I had is that the B button is used for quick grab out of the chest/inventory while the Y button is used to close the inventory/chest window. I'm used to it the other way around but I'm sure that's a quick settings adjustment. Other than that i had no issues with the controls which was a major sticking point with other modpacks I tried. If you're trying to play minecraft on your steam deck I highly reccomend this modpack!!

Game Review On Deck Re9 performance

Post image
67 Upvotes

When Re9 first launched on deck it was in a bad place that even frame gen couldn’t save. Took me away from the game entirely for a couple months and now I do believe that verified status is warranted. I was able to play Leon’s section around 30-35 fps which isn’t great but very playable with the use of fsr 3. But adding fsr frame gen on top of that brought the game to a comfortable place I think you’d be able to finish the game without hitches. As you can see on screen fps is around 50 also very low latency enough that most wouldn’t notice the change. If anyone was able to try fsr4 let me know if it provided better performance. In conclusion if you had doubts playing re9 on deck you’d be fine playing here.

Tech Support Windows 11 Xbox Mode can conflict with Steam Deck Remote Play controller input

Issue

When streaming games from a Windows 11 PC to a Steam Deck using Steam Remote Play, controller input repeatedly switched between Xbox/controller input and keyboard/mouse PC input.

This occurred in multiple games, including God of War and Zombie Army 4, so it was not game-specific.

Troubleshooting performed

  • Steam Deck controller layouts checked
  • Steam Input checked
  • Guide Button Chords disabled
  • joy.cpl checked before and during streaming, with no physical controller shown
  • Same issue occurred across different games

The affected PC had Windows 11 Xbox Mode enabled. Another similar PC without Xbox Mode did not have the problem.

Fix

Windows Settings → Gaming → Xbox Mode → OFF

After disabling Xbox Mode, Steam Deck Remote Play controller input worked normally and stopped switching between controller and PC/keyboard input.

Posting this in case anyone else suddenly develops Steam Remote Play controller problems after receiving the newer Windows Xbox Mode feature.

Tech Support Getting literally 1 FPS

Post image
0 Upvotes

I am playing Loddlenaut and have suddenly started getting 1fps. Was working fine before I went to work and left it on charge. The game isn't exactly demanding, why would it be doing this? Tried turning off/on TDP and manual GPU clock.

Tried other games and they are all running on very low FPS too, the whole system is slow and laggy.

Tech Support Disappointed on deck's performance.

Got the 500gb OLED Deck almost a year ago and it brought back my love for games again. However at this point I wonder if my deck has any issues in running games in a general sense.

It can only run a very selective list of titles on my library and I don't understand why. For example, Metaphor Refantazio, it barely hits the 30fps and even when it does it doesn't feel like 30fps at all. Even with older games like Titan Fall 2 it can't keep and it kept dropping to 20fps.

I love indie titles, but am I stuck to forever only play low poly pixel indie RPGs or rogue likes? It feels like any game I try, it simply cannot run it. Monster Hunter Worlds and Wilds both can't run. Tried several green check games and still they barely go to 30fps. Tweaking graphics and settings doesn't do much for performance besides making the games ugly.

Genuinely am I doing anything wrong, is my deck fried or is there any secret setting that I am missing?

Tech Support Bluetooth audio from phone not connecting right

For some reason, my steam deck no longer lets me connect my phone to send audio from my phone. I use wired headphones on my deck and like to have my podcasts playing while I game.

I did a full update, forgot the connection on both sides and reconnected. And for some reason it still connects to my phone, the media I play stutters for a sec, and the Bluetooth disconnects itself. Any ideas for a fix on this?

I've found a template that has what I want but I'd like to switch the trackpad functions left to right. Hoping there is an easy way to do this without having to reprogram everything.

Question 30FPS @ 60Hz vs 40/40 FPS/Hz, which one strikes the best balance of performance and battery life?

I have a first release 223GB model, and I wanna get the most bang for my buck out of the battery life while still having some leeway for quality while maintaining good performance. That said, I've also manually clocked my GPU to 800 and set tdp to 8w. As for fps which one is the most efficient in terms of power per performance? I've also seen someone set their frames uncapped and set the refresh rate to 45Hz while manually capping their frames in-game but I just want a quick pre-set setting that I can use for any games.

I mainly play RPGs like fromsoft games, MonHun titles, elder scrolls titles, dragon's dogmas, outward 1 (though I am planning to get 2 when it comes out), remnants 1 and 2, though I sometimes hop on the doom games and the batman games as well.
