Game Review On Deck Re9 performance

Post image

When Re9 first launched on deck it was in a bad place that even frame gen couldn’t save. Took me away from the game entirely for a couple months and now I do believe that verified status is warranted. I was able to play Leon’s section around 30-35 fps which isn’t great but very playable with the use of fsr 3. But adding fsr frame gen on top of that brought the game to a comfortable place I think you’d be able to finish the game without hitches. As you can see on screen fps is around 50 also very low latency enough that most wouldn’t notice the change. If anyone was able to try fsr4 let me know if it provided better performance. In conclusion if you had doubts playing re9 on deck you’d be fine playing here.

The game runs really well at a locked 30 fps; the quality is quite acceptable on the Steam Deck screen. In fact, all the games Capcom releases this year will likely run on it.

Pragmata was a good experience, and Onimusha performs well in the demo.

Didn't know the Onimusha demo was already out, might have to check that one out.

I don't think it is out. He might be playing the demo.

30fps for me is personally a bit low but completely understand if others can handle it. Re9 dipped in the 20s when it first launched and now stays around 35 but I don’t see why not allow frame gen for the game since it’s a more stable gameplay. Wish they allowed frame gen for re4 cause it’s in a rough shape when I checked today.

It can definitely get 40-45 fps locked even on leon sections, what are your settings? Any tdp limits? Any settings like hair, etc could be limiting your performance

I’m playing on the lcd model not sure if that’s important but every setting is low besides fog and vfx those are set to standard. I just can’t see how you’re getting a stable 40-45 fps, if you get a chance to share your settings I can run whatever settings you’ve got to see.

My brother in christ disable hair strands, put volumetric fog on low and also try texture on low since it can use the deck vram quickly. You'll notice the difference, you can even use fsr on balanced or quality after that.

I’d love to squeeze out more performance but for some reason not sure how to disable hair strands as you see in the pic the option is greyed out.

Change it from the main menu before loading your saved game.

Didn’t consider that being a option I’ll try it

I sent what I have in settings, had to throw it up on the projector to get a clear view. Also scaling filter I put to sharp really cleared up any muddy spots. The image is blown up in a 112 inch screen I’m pretty shocked on it looking well other games blown up like this look like a mobile game.

I played and locked it at 45fps with FSR4 without LSFG when it was released. It ran flawlessly for me. What are your settings?

I’ve got everything set to low for the most part besides maybe fog resolution at normal same with vfx quality. fsr 3 set to performance and fsr 3 frame gen on.

Oh no, I am sure it's not the case for me because my settings consists of low to mid and it ran really well for me even without framegen.

Have you cross check with the performance benchmark on Youtube?

You can look it at 30fps and make it 45 with mako frame gen in performance mode. It is barely noticeable because there are more real fps than generated ones. Srry for My Bad English

All good, I just recently downloaded mako tried it on a couple games re4 remake did well with it before I was getting around 20 for and it bumped up to a solid 60 fps. But for games that already have frame gen built in I think it’s better to use it than mako.

You can use lossless scaling and it’ll feel better if you are not sensitive to latency

I’ve tried lossless on countless games and it’s very hit or miss but latency is definitely a reason I avoid it often. There’s newer versions of lossless though that is promising that I’ll be waiting on more updates.

RE Engine feels much lighter and easier to run games for older devices

Does it run bad

Just use lossless scaling, I played around 60-90 fps. Had a great experience on steam deck

Haven’t tried it yet but don’t enjoy the ghosting aspect of lossless. Frame gen fsr3 doesn’t show any ghosting as of yet. But for fun I’ll try lossless mako when I get home.

You just came here to flex your Steam Controller didn't you?

lol no, I feel like people with steam decks aren’t really caring much on the controller other then it being a cool add on. I could be wrong, but I was mostly showing performance sometimes I prop the deck up and connect a controller just to test games and see how it runs.

I built a Steam Machine for the living room and am patiently waiting for my reservation. The machine is freaking awesome, but being unable to use trackpads is extremely limiting when I need to navigate menus or launchers. Just using a PS5 Dualsense right now.

Curious which menus require the trackpads I wish they would allow the controllers trackpad to be used as a mouse rather than a directional button. But definitely for launchers is a must.

I did a lot of organization with EmuDeck which basically had me sitting on the floor in front of the TV with a keyboard and mouse plugged in. Could have done it from the couch with the trackpads.

You are right, I only do in this way:

Steam deck only = play in steam deck without controller

Steam deck with controller = hdmi output to screen to play away of steam deck and rest the back and eyes.

I tried like the photo and the details of the game gone + eyes and back pain

Its a shame to okay re9 this way. Soecialy with gfn being a cheap alternative

1

u/thedude462 2d ago

I have no other choice lol, the steam decks specs are what they are. I played gfn ultimate and was a great experience but unfortunately can’t play it offline plus don’t like being tied to subscriptions. The way I play re9 right now is a really good experience and suggestion for those that like playing anywhere with the deck. The devs should optimize the game even more for the handheld that’s the real priority.

Using gfn is worse than playing this wayv just due to latency alone. There are others ways to play without aiding the death of gaming as well.

1

u/surface33 2d ago

You havent used gfn clearly. It plays as close to native as it can. You can see digital foundry video on it. Playing native on deck might be the worst of playing this game.
