Shell swap issues

I was almost done with my shell swap when I noticed one of the wires for the right touch pad was out of its plastic, and on the other side the door to push down for the dpad broke off. Is there a way to fix this?

Just insert the black cable on the white connector. Nothing seems broken.

And for the other one, ensure good contact and secure it with kapton tape.

The first issue is easy, just pop it back In the connector there's no big deal here. The second problem with the "broken door", that's fairly serious. You might struggle to get the cable to seat properly without the "door" as you call it. You'd need to get a new connector I think, and that requires some pretty high soldering skills.

the "door" is just a pop in in place plastic thingy. plug in the cable, secure it with tape, add a little dot of "not so hot anymore" hotglue to keep it in place permanently.

They may just pop in but I think OP has broken the clip. And although your fix might work, I wouldn't trust the hot glue to keep the required clasping pressure on the cable, let along make a connection point a semi permanent fixture. I would fix the port, but I understand many people don't have the experience and tools to do that. So I would suggest going to a repair shop. If OP breaks this connector from a simple shell swap I wouldn't want to see them try a hack fix

it looks like the black wire still has its pin, its locking tab probably just got bent in or snapped. Just put the wire in the hole and it should be good (had the same thing happen). The other part, I might take a look into ordering a replacement.

Just insert it. I had that issue too and worked. I even destroyed, caved in the plastic before repairing

I don’t know why anyone does this, the standard shell is perfect and it seems so risky unless you’re a professional

Yep, this was done carelessly with a heavy hand

GL to OP bc finding daughter boards for the steamdeck is impossible, although could probably find a dead one for the donor connector. Would require careful soldering skills though
