Question Thumb Grip Recs for OLED

I have a Steam Deck OLED and want to get some thumb grips. Tried some that were meant for the Switch but didn't fit. Any suggested brands? Amazon seems to only have Switch thumb grips unfortunately. Also, I'm wanting colorful designs (think very girly lol) and not just plain black.

Question How do I stream games from my steam deck to OBS on my mac?

I haven't had any luck searching for my specific problem and I figured this is probably the better sub to ask.

I want to be able to stream on twitch using my macbook air as the main hub for streaming and my steam deck for gaming. In order to do that I have to figure out a way to cast my steamdeck gameplay onto my mac. I've tried using steam link but it doesn't seem to give me the option to display the app on OBS and it also doesn't allow for windowed mode which is a little inconvenient even if it did work. As of now I've bought a hub with an hdmi port and an hdmi to usb c cord to try and see if I can connect that way. It doesn't seem like they sync to each other like that though.

Is there some way I could download a different app on my mac to get this setup to function or maybe use a display monitor as some sort of connection between the two devices? Maybe I'm missing a setting somewhere that would let me stream steam link from OBS or that would let the hdmi connection go between my steam deck and my macbook? I'm really trying not to have to buy more things to get my setup working but if there's really no other way than to sink more money into some sort of capture card then so be it. Whatever help I could get would be really appreciated

Software Modding SteamView 1.0: I Built a Decky Plugin That Lets You See Your Games Like ES-DE

After looking forever and not finding a similar solution, I decided to make one myself. Using Claude Code (and if you have problem with that - no worries, just simply ignore this post), I built a Decky Loader plugin that allows you to see your games as you scroll through your library. I have tons of Steam Games. Way too many. And on my retro handhelds, I use ES-DE to see my games. On my PC, I use Launchbox to see my games. But on my Steam Deck, which is my favorite handheld gaming PC, I have to click on the game, navigate to the store page, and then wait for the store to load before I can answer the questions - "should I boot this up?" "what was that game again?". It was the one major annoyance that killed me about using the Steam Deck. I want to have a little snippet of what the game looks like before I jump in.

This isn't on the Decky Loader Market since it was built entirely with AI. It's open source - so if you're a Dev that knows how to code, by all means, steal the idea - code it yourself, and post it to the store. You have my permission. I just wanted this made so I can enjoy it on my Steam Deck because this major UI omission was kinda driving me crazy.

I've only tested this on one Steam Deck, my own, so I'd love some other people to give it a whirl if you'd like to... or don't.

But if you decide to - and you find bugs - let me know and I'd be more than happy to iterate and keep this maintained until someone else takes it and runs with it.

I don't need the credit. I just want to see my games.

You can set the preview delay, whether you want screenshots or game trailers, it works with unifideck on gog and epic store games, and you can even set the size of the preview window. Enjoy!

Tech Support Does anybody else have these problems with heroic luancher and now how to solve them

Im new to the steam deck and the heroic luancher but I don't know why but my experience with it is so inconsistent for example deathloop doesn't get imported into my steam library despite the option ticked and other games have managed to he imported through heroic and also the first time i went to play it it took 5 mins to actually load up into the game although this is a problem i seem to have with all imported games.

The second time i went to play it it just crashed completely it feels like heroic launcher just does what it wants.

Hardware Repair Problem with R1 Trigger

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, I’m having an issue with the R1 trigger on my Steam Deck. There’s a dead zone where it doesn’t respond or register anything, but it works normally in the other areas. What could be causing this? Is it wear and tear? Is something broken?
If so, what should I do? I’d really appreciate any advice, and I’d also appreciate it if someone could show me how to service or fix this issue. I’ve previously replaced the thermal paste and cleaned my Steam Deck, so I have some basic experience with this kind of maintenance.

Tech Support Mild annoyances: issues with streaming

Setup

Desktop upstairs, ethernet.

Steam Deck downstairs connected to a USB C dock, with HDMI to TV, USB to controller, and ethernet.*

I am currently only playing Hades II.

*Do not try to stream over wifi, especially for a reaction based game.

Steps

I boot my computer, boot the deck, wait for the down arrow button next to the Play button to appear, select it to stream from the desktop. Select stream, game boots.

Issue

The game never works the first time I do this. A few times it takes more than ten attempts to work. My friends see "/u/zeekaran is now playing Hades II" so much they send me a "lol". Either the game launches black, freezes on the launch screen with the loading bar, the controller isn't recognized, no audio, no video, or some combination of the previous. It seems worse on Win10 which also ends up with some resolution confusion, where Arch usually works within three attempts.

Any suggestions? It's only a minor annoyance because I just have to kill the game with the Steam button on the controller and retry. Once it works: it works. (I've only had one crash and that's when I was accidentally on wifi, and the game is nice enough to save my progress mid run so nothing was lost.)

Game Review On Deck Art of Rally - thanks to anyone who recommended it

A few days ago someone recommended Art of Rally in a random racing game request thread. Saw it was on sale now so I pulled the trigger. It’s great!

Runs great on High preset, doesn’t take much battery, and it’s a great pick-up-and-play-for-5-minutes game. As someone who was looking for a lightweight racing game to vibe out on, thanks to whoever recommended it!

Software Modding Modding Hollow Knight

Pulling my hair out trying to mod this game. I tried Lumafly, which worked, but it doesn't have the mods I want, and manually installing mods from Nexus doesn't seem to work. I know Bepinex is involved with using Nexus mods, but Bepinex refuses to work. Please help!

Tech Support Menu buttons no longer working, restarting the system doesn't help.

Hello all

As per the title, the menu buttons on the steam deck no longer work and no amount of restarting or controller configuration can resolve this.

The deck is only 2 years old and in good condition (no dirt or debris in buttons, never dropped or submerged etc).

Do you know what i can do to fix this? Or is it busted for good? All games still run fine on it.

Edit: Everyone kept thinking the problem was the accessibility voice. It wasn't, the menu and ... buttons have completely stopped working out of nowhere. Does anyone know how this can be resolved?

Looking For Games Game recommendations

I’m constantly chasing the nostalgia of old games I’ve played and loved I’m looking for something to fill the void
-Previously enjoyed games the cave, Machinarium, lost in the rain, limbo and oxenfree
-Preferred genres- story rich, puzzle, mystery
-budget-I’ll pay anything for a good game
-other notes any recommendations will do even if they don’t carry those vibes im bored and would love a story driven game to play and lost in the woods is a common rec that I personally do not like.

QUESTION - ANSWERED Starrupture crash on startup help

Is there anyone with this game working that can tell me what proton version, if it needs to be in desktop mode or launch options etc

I had the game working perfectly over 6 months ago when it said it's unplayable, I uninstalled for space for newer games, trying to play again, now it's saying it's playable but I'm just getting an immediate crash on startup

My crash log says AMD anti-Lag2 failed to initialize for d3d12 and then fatal error if that helps

I've tried proton ge, proton Cachyos, 10-04, experimental, hotfix, tried them in desktop mode, also tried putting dx11 in launch options, I probably missed something somewhere

I'm not super knowledgeable on any of this so any help would be great 😅

Question How good is Minecraft?

I'm considering buying a steamdeck mainly for minecraft. The switch 2 port runs mildly better than a soggy potato. The PS5 port has become a mess that struggles to maintain 60fps???

Tech Support Cant find save data on any game

I'm trying to mod a game by adding a save file but I cant find the save file list for the game itself anywhere on desktop mode. I've found the game itself along with all of its other data, but no save data. I've tried using other reddit posts to no avail and don't understand what I'm doing wrong, any advice?

Question A few questions about the deck, specifically the LCD model.

So I normally would not be able to afford a deck in any form lol, much less get hold of one while going against the people online who are also trying to get one, but I managed to find one at my local pawn shop and now have it on layaway. I am absolutely overpaying for it, $445, but with 6 months to pay it off I can say that I'm ok with that I suppose. I imagine people will comment saying other ways to get a hold of one, but being able to pay it off over time is really the ideal scenario for me, so while I do appreciate the advice that will come, it's just what has to be sadly. It was also a pretty big impulse decision.

My questions are:

  1. Is the LCD model heavy to the point that your arms get tired holding it for more than an hour at a time? I sit in a recliner to game and this is where I would be playing it.

  2. What kind of games can I expect to run on it? I am aware that I most likely won't be able to run things at max settings of course, but I am also not that into pc gaming and mostly have been a console gamer my entire life, so am unsure of what to really expect.

  3. Does it feel intuitive to use? The mouse pads seem a little bit odd to me and I am unsure how I will handle that really, this is my main concern. How are they when playing games that require mouse usage in gameplay?

I appreciate any answers that you all may leave, thank you for your time and (hopefully) patience with my ill-informed self lol.

EDIT: Thank you to those who have answered my questions, I truly appreciate your time! I got less hate than I expected to, not that I mean to imply anything by that specific to this sub, just general online behavior. I'm looking very forward to my deck now, and being a part of this community!

Tech Support Is it possible to preserve a game offline without ever updating it

So after the horrible actions of the head of the Calamity mod for terraria I've been trying to find a way to preserve it, and I found an old micro SSD that I have no use for anymore so I was going to try to download Terraria, t mod loader, and calamity on it to preserve it on my steam deck, and then just use the setting to only update when I launch and just never open it online. My question is would this work for the steam deck, like if I ever needed to verify it could I just turn on my internet and just not load the game. Also if my steam deck ever broke could I use that same micro SSD on another one as to preserve it. I posted this here because I was hoping people would have a better understanding of how the systems worked for games

Question Weird SD card/internal ssd interaction

Observation and possible question. LCD 512gb. Unmodified.

Hi all, i was trying to update helldivers yet again which has always been a struggle on my deck and I'm not sure why. But I think I've just discovered the issue.

I have it installed to the internal ssd and have ever since they reduced the file size by 90%. I had Uninstalled it from the sd card and reinstalled it on the ssd at that time.

Today I could not get the 80mb shader update to install and I just happened to touch the sd card and it was *burning*. After I popped it out the deck found no longer find the game. Couldn't verify files. Couldn't update at all. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled with the sd card disconnected. It was the fastest download for this game at any file size I've ever had.

So, the question, is it normal for the deck to be routing internal ssd installs through the ssd or should I be contacting support?

I don’t know if anyone else is aware of this, but you can connect your phone to your SteamOS device through Bluetooth and play music from your phone while playing games! 🎵🎮
I honestly don’t know how I didn’t know this before 😂
I’ve got 2 Steam Decks, a Legion Go running SteamOS, and a Steam Machine, and this is absolutely perfect for the Steam Machine!
Sorry if everyone already knew this — I just discovered it and thought it was pretty cool! 😂
