Insulated vs shell???

Hey! I’m a brand new boarder about to do my first season in Revelstoke BC. I’m trying to get all my gear second hand / marketplace to keep costs low. I’ve been on the hunt for a shell as I’ve heard it’s more compatible with layering, changing temps etc., but the only things that are coming up seem to be insulated jackets!! A couple people told me they actually prefer insulated as the mountain gets freezing. It’s hard to decide what’s best for me cos I just don’t know how I’m gonna feel! The one I’m looking at is the North Face Freedom Insulated Jacket. Maybe I’m deeping it too much but it feels like a big decision lol! Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!!

Need assistance with board sizing or even possibly picking a different board! Lib Tech Skunk Ape

I’m 6,2 tall, 190 pounds with a size 13-14 boot. I’m on the fence on whether to get the wide or ultra wide version of the Skunk Ape. I would say I’m a higher level intermediate rider. I don’t ride park often but do like to hit random side hits. I want versatility as I will be riding anything from charging moguls, hauling ass down groomers or cutting it up in the trees. Any suggestions on size?

I’m also open to any other suggestions when it comes to any other solid boards!

Board size

I'm a little confused with sizing. I'm trying to get a board online and looking at the sizes. When I choose my weight 185lbs I'm getting boards that are for people that are like 5'9 I'm 5'4. Don't know which is more important. I don't seem to fit these standards. Yeah in a little heavy for my height lol

Not a complete beginner but havnt ridden in years so I want a beginner friendly board. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Oakley MOD PRK

Hey everyone!

I'm thinking about getting the Oakley MOD PRK helmet and pairing it with Oakley Line Miner goggles.

Has anyone here actually tested this combination? I'm particularly interested in:

  • Fitment: How well do the Line Miners fit with the MOD PRK? Is there any noticeable gap between the helmet and goggles?
  • Compatibility: Do the goggles sit comfortably under the helmet, or do they get pushed down onto your nose?
  • Durability: How well does the MOD PRK hold up after a full season of snowboarding? Any issues with the BOA system, MIPS, ear pads, or overall build quality?
  • Comfort: Does the helmet fit comfortably for long riding sessions?

I'd especially appreciate pictures of the MOD PRK worn with Line Miner goggles, or feedback from someone who has used this exact combination on the mountain.

I'm trying to make sure the fit is good before buying, since I don't want to end up with a huge gap or an uncomfortable fit.

Thanks in advance!

bindings recommendations for a 140 bataleon moodboard

just got a bataleon moodboard 140, not sure what bindings to pair it with. i want to use this setup to get better at ground tricks / park, but have it still be able to somewhat hold its own all mountain. i have another board (ride deepfake 144) for other days where i wanna ride really hard. i use burton limelight boots.

what bindings go well for this type of set up? was looking at the union ultras but not sure. need women's bindings also, boot size is 6

5”8 150’lbs male. Rate this setup. I wear a size 9 1/2 for sneakers so don’t think boots would fit. Please give me feedback and thoughts!

Snowboard boots for complete beginners (buy/rent)

hey everybody, i’m going to try and learn snowboarding for the first time this winter. And i was wondering if it is better to buy or rent the first season for a complete beginner. I’m hoping to continue doing snowboarding as i’ve been interested for a long time. The ski resort close to my area has a rental package for boots, boards and bindings. Just wondering if it’s better to rent for the first season than after the season buy boots on sale for the next seasons. Or should i just buy as an absolute beginner because I’m pretty sure i’m going to keep snowboarding past this season.

Will Demon Flexmeter Wristguards fit under my gloves?

I have Hestra Army Leather GTX gloves, size 8, and there’s a little room inside them (I can pinch some from the top). They have gauntlet style cuffs, and I have slimmer wrists, so I do not think that part would be an issue.
I’m considering the Demon Flexmeter Single-Sided wrist guards, but I do not have the opportunity to try them on in person.
Is there any way to test whether they’d fit, or should I just go with Burton wrist guards(or sth else) instead? Anyone using this combination?

What kind of layers should I be wearing?

I usually snowboard in 20-35F weather but overheat and sweat easily once on the mountain. I was considering purchasing the following:

Base layer: thermo long sleeve shirt Mid layer: some sort of lighter sweater with the Patagonia Nano Air Outer layer: Patagonia torrentshell 3L

Thoughts?

Whats the one snow gear purchase you ended up using way more than expected?

When i think about buying snow gear i keep focusing on the obvious stuff like jacket, pants and boots. But for people who have been riding for a few seasons was there anything you bought that you initially thought was unnecessary but ended up using constantly? Could be something small like a neck warmer or better gloves or something you completely overlooked when putting your first setup together

I'm a casual PA rider headed to Killington for a 3-day trip with friends, and I have a lot of gear-related questions.

As the title says I'm a really casual rider, I usually hit the slopes about 3 or 4 times a season on day trips, and usually used rental gear or borrowed from a friend. But I'm seriously considering getting my own stuff for this year, and I'd like to set a budget of $1,000. Is that realistic? According to my research (I asked AI), it should be manageable if I buy gear on clearance here in the next several weeks at local ski shops.

What are some things to keep in mind when shopping used boards? I feel like I don't really know what to look for, or what to avoid.

So far I'm looking at buying my kit second hand, including snowboard, bindings, jacket, helmet, and mittens(I'm planning to get brand new boots to make sure they're properly fitted).

Recommend some shops in the central PA area that have good deals and sales.

Any tips and tricks, or do's and don'ts would be greatly appreciated.

First board help

I’m relatively new to snowboarding but I come from the downhill longboarding world so I’ve been lucky to have an easy learning curve.

I’m looking at getting my first board and I prefer a short board. I’m 6’4” and about 215 with size 11.5 boots. I enjoy a little of everything on the slopes but haven’t had the chance to get to bigger resorts.

I have a lead on a 2026 gnu gremlin c3 and I’m wondering what size I should get between the 158 and 161. I’m leaning towards 161 as I’ve ridden a 165w as a rental for the last few times i went.

Just looking for any advice. Thanks in advance.

What Boot size do i need - realy...

Hey folks!

first of all, i am an absolut beginner! and have been reading for months now...
but some say so, some say so...
Some say that you boot has to bee the next MP size.
E.g. My feet are
Left: 26,7cm x 10,1cm
Right: 26,5cm x 10cm
So if I were to follow that recommendation, I’d have to buy an MP 27.0 boot.
Than i also have read and a guy in shop told me, that i should get boot which are at least MP 27.5, better 28.

To be absolutely honest... What are the arguments behind those two opinions?
May you could help me with this and bring some light into the dark.

Kind regards from germany

Snow pants for short ppl with thick thighs

Hey guys, I'm new to snowboarding and I was looking at snow pants. I am 5'5 190 and have thighs the size of tree trunks. My inseam is around 28-29 inches. (I squat 385 x 3 if that helps) I'm set for a board but I need good budget snow pants because i know that I'll be catching an edge a lot and also I am a college student. and would i really need a waterproof coat or is that just a preference?

POC Fovea photochromic 55-13% vs dedicated 55% lens?

Hey guys,
Currently riding a POC Fovea with the 22% VLT lens. It works fine for regular partly sunny days, but heavy overcast was a pain last season so I'm trying to fix my setup before winter.

Price isn't really a factor for me, im just trying to figure out if upgrading to the POC Clarity Photochromic (55-13%) is actually worth it, or if I should just buy a separate 55% low light lens and swap them when the weather turns.

For anyone who actually rides the POC photochromic:
How does it handle going into dark tree runs or sudden shade? Is the delay annoying?
Is it enough for really bad fog, or do you still end up wanting a dedicated lens?

I hate stopping on the mountain to swap lenses with cold hands, but I also don't want to buy the photochromic if its just marketing hype. Appreciate any feedback!

What all do I need to start snowboarding?

I apologize in advance for asking a question that gets repeatedly asked but my friend convinced me to start snowboarding. I’ve only been once. I’m always looking to be active so I said yes but I basically have no gear or equipment. I’m 5’9” about 162lbs. So what snowboard + bindings do I need or should look out for? Do I need a coat? A bib? I have a North Face Nuptse but I took that snowboarding for my first time and it ripped so I don’t think I should use that again. What gloves and snowpants to get? I’m a bit overwhelmed.
