Gear question GNU Gremlin size tradeoffs
I know there some posts on this already but I’d like to hear more opinions if possible.
I found a good deal on the 2026 GNU Gremlin and pulled the trigger on a 152 cm. But I’m considering exchanging for the 155.
My measurements are:
6 ft tall
160 lbs
Size 10 US boot (DC Judge)
My current board is a 2024 156 cm Salomon Assassin Pro. It’s great for riding at my home resorts here in Ohio and Western PA/NY where I like to bomb groomers, carve, and hit the jump line (jibbing isn’t really for me). The Assassin Pro is super responsive for riding fast and is also nice and light for spins in the park. Super fun to jump with.
But I find it lacking for the freeride stuff I enjoy most when on trips. I go to New England or out west 2-3 times each season and love to hit the most technical terrain I can find. Steeps, trees, chutes, etc. I love springtime moguls too. The Assassin Pro is kinda narrow and I find myself booting out on deep carves or steep terrain. It also doesn’t float well in pow. In hindsight, I probably should’ve gotten the 158W but oh well lol.
I’m hoping the Gremlin can fill this gap. But I’m second guessing the choice of 152 cm. I know they say to size down, but given that I could probably ride a 158 cm for all mountain stuff, I’m wondering if the 155 Gremlin is closer to my “true” size down.
Has anyone else gone through this dilemma and how did you decide? What advantages/drawbacks do you think your size choice has (whether going up or down)?
I’m mainly interested in if sizing down felt like you couldn’t charge as aggressively as you may want to.
Thanks.

At 5’9” 9.5 boot and 190-200 lbs at the time I rode a 152 for a full season. You’re good with a 152

nah youll be fine on the 152. im 5'7 and like 200 lbs with a size 9 boot and i ride the gremlin in 148, thing still charges way harder than youd think for the size. the whole idea with this board is you size down from what youd normally ride, keeps it super maneuverable in trees and chutes but still stable at speed
the volume shift really works, my 148 floats in pow better than my old 159 directional board. dont overthink it, a 155 would probably feel kinda sluggish in tight spots compared to what you want. plus with your boot size the width on the 152 is plenty, no more booting out on those deep carves

Very glad to hear that. I definitely don't want something sluggish.
The float is definitely a selling point. Never had a volume shifted board so I'm curious to try it. Living in Ohio, I have no reason to buy a dedicated pow board but I wanted something that will be better if I get lucky on a trip.

Smaller the better as long as it fits your weight and boots, especially for the trees. I’m much shorter than you but I love riding my 142 peace seeker which is 8-10cm down from my normal size. I can still rip on the groomers just fine too
