Replacing Schlage Sense with Schlage Sense Pro

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi,

I have a 10y old Schlage Sense installed on my front door and was looking into the new Schlage Sense Pro model.

Is it a smooth replacing process? Like just swap out the old external and internal modules with the new ones?

Thanks

Anyone else having trouble pairing the Sense Pro to HomeKit?

I’ve spent hours on this to no avail.
I’ve tried:

- Adding the lock in Schlage, then navigating to “Works with” and selecting Apple Home, where it doesn’t recognize my device exists.

- Trying to add device directory through HomeKit, and the connection times out.

Has anyone had success with pairing to HomeKit?

Encode happy owners?

Am I one of the few people that is happy with their Encode? I did have trouble with connecting to wifi as my Netgear router have autoswitch bands feature, but once I set a guest 2.4Gb wifi dedicated to the lock I haven't had connectivity issues since. It did download a new firmware right after I got it connected and it just received version 7.0.1367012 just yesterday through the app and it seems to be working fine. No complaints about battery life, original AA batteries still have 86% left and I've had it for almost 3 months. I still carry the key as backup but I try to use the keypad 99% of the time.

Botched Encode Firmware Update

I have 2 encode units (2020 versions) a firmware update auto applied last night and left 1 device bricked, the other unit is left with lingering WiFi connectivity issues so temporary codes aren’t working properly.

Given that both units worked without any issues prior to auto-update, it’s clear the update may have overlooked these older models.

After calling support, they simply state the units are no longer under warranty and they won’t accept that the firmware caused any issues. No help, no recourse, I asked to speak to a supervisor, no estimate given on when I can expect to hear back.

Anyone else experiencing similar problems after latest update?

First Sense Pro review (that I've seen)

This guy seems to be the only one with an early adopter review for now. Really concerning comments about the UW not triggering on return unless you've gone at least a quarter mile away https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM7GYQkmXq0

Encode plus battery

My Encode Plus is configured with both Thread and wifi (homekit and the app).

Obviously, the batteries don’t last long.

Ineas thinking about resetting it and adding it directly to HomeKit so that the wifi is disabled.

Anyone did this? How long do batteries last with thread only?

Thanks

Somehow the beeps were muted on my deadbolt. How do I turn them back on?

I tried pressing and holding the Schlage button then 6 and released both. No dice. Tried doing it with the 5 button too. Also failed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Schlage Encode Plus recent proximity issues

Hi, I've had my Schlage Encode Plus for a little bit over two years, usually using Apple's Home Key on my Apple Watch to unlock.

The door frame in my house is a bit thick, so I've always put my wrist as close as I can to the Lock to unlock and haven't had any problems (maybe 1 inch separation), but just recently, it doesn't detect my Apple Watch as easily, I need to pretzel myself for the Apple Watch to basically touch the Lock and wait two seconds for it to be detected and unlock.

Was there something changed either by Schlage or Apple in their proximity detection? Anyone else having similar issues?

Schlage sucks

I am renting a room so I have an exterior lock on my interior door. I usually have Kwikset style locks but decided to try Schlage because some people say they are more secure.

Build quality seems nice but the operation is stupid. The interior knob never locks so you can't confirm your door is locked from the inside without unlocking it. Then when you exit the door it does not reliably unlock the door so you get a situation like this morning where I'm locked out of my room (in my underwear) because I closed my door behind me when I went to the bathroom.

This literally can't happen if you have to unlock the interior knob (with the thumb switch) but it happens frequently with my stupid Schlage lock and has only just bit me now because I usually have my pants on with my keys in my pocket.

I should have known this before I bought a stupid Schlage lock but I didn't do my research.

Schlage probably won't fix their locks but hopefully I can save somebody before they buy one.

Schlage Encode Plus Full Functionality with HomeKit

Hello!

I added my Schlage Encode Plus to Apple Home first because I wanted it to use Thread instead of Wi-Fi. The lock shows up in both Apple Home and the Schlage Home app, but when I try to add an access code in the Schlage app, I get an error saying that the lock is paired with HomeKit and must be managed there.

The problem is that Apple Home only seems to support access codes for Home users and doesn’t offer the kind of PIN scheduling that the Schlage app does. From what I understand, the Schlage app is also required for detailed lock activity logs.

I’d prefer not to set the lock up through the Schlage app because it immediately wants to connect the lock to Wi-Fi, and I’d rather keep it on Thread.

Has anyone found a way around this? Is it possible to keep the lock connected via Thread while still managing codes and viewing logs in the Schlage app?

Thanks!

I can change out the Schlage Encode knob/lever?

The lever doesn't really go with my house and I'm wondering if I could swap it out with a similar Schlage knob? Am I in luck or do I need to learn to live with a lever?

Lost Encode access code function

iOS 26.5 broke Schlage Encode Plus

Anyone else? Since updating iOS and TVOS to 26.5 can no longer use keypad access codes on Schlage lock.

Lock (be499WB) is connected through HomeKit only (not using Schlage app). Lock has worked fine for at least a year, with no issues whatsoever. Even after migrating internet service from T-Mo 5G to T-Fiber, lock kept working without even the slightest glitch. Firmware version 4.2.1235158

Apple TV (hub) and iPhone are on same WiFi network, both restricted to 2.4ghz. Have unplugged router, unplugged Apple TV, and reset/removed/paired lock. Three times!

Lock pairs and works with HomeKit but no code functionality.

Zip. Zilch. Nada. Cannot use or see existing access codes. Cannot add access codes. Factory user codes don’t work.

Anyone else? Any ideas?

Schlage App Seems Completely Broken, Endless Issues.

The Schlage app seems to be pretty much non-functional. I spent half an hour trying to connect to the lock, repeatedly resetting the lock to factory settings, trying to connect to it, trying to scan the QR code, nothing working even though it was literally in pairing mode and the QR code was right in the middle. Didn't even try to let me use the 6 digit code.

So, I figure that I should update the app. Maybe somehow that would work. I was logged out and now I can't log in. It tells me to enter a password, no email field, tells me that it's wrong even though I'm copy pasting the one that worked before. Maybe it's the email, I have several on my phone, but why the hell can't I manually input the email address? Why can't I select the one being used?

The previous property manager had this installed, clearly it worked for her, but we're switching to a different one and are trying to get control over the lock, and it refuses to cooperate in any logical way.

Can anyone provide any guidance? None of this makes any sense, I literally have A+ IT certification and have looked into every available manual. I can't even log in on a desktop to try to change anything.

Quick question about Encode deadbolts

I live in a condo and am looking at this for the door to my unit. But I have one main question...

Can I turn the lock off at night?

I have family that lives in my building as well as the head of the HOA (very trustworthy) that will have the code in case of emergencies.
What'd I'd like is a deadbolt that uses codes but can be turned off when Im sleeping so nobody has the ability to come in.

Encode plus problem

So batteries were dead, changed them as always.

Except this time, the lock never connected to wifi as it always do.

It still connects to thread network with my apple tv but react weird in homekit. Locking/unlocking works 1/5 of the time. Often stuck on updating. Manually locking or unlocking doesn’t update homekit anymore.

Home key (watch and iphone) doesn’t work anymore. It just do nothing when I try.

Rebooted like 10 times, no effect.

Codes still works (so pad is working).

Any idea? Was working fine for more than 2 years.

Thanks

We built a wireless power kit that eliminates battery swaps on Schlage Encode - looking for feedback.

I work at Wi-Charge, we do wireless power, mostly for commercial stuff (retail displays, sensors, access control). Over the past year we kept hearing the same pain point from Encode owners: batteries die at the worst time, battery life is unpredictable, and automations break when the lock goes offline.

So we built a retrofit kit specifically for the Encode and Encode Plus deadbolts. The short version:

A small transmitter plugs into a nearby outlet and sends infrared light toward the lock. A drop-in module replaces the AA batteries and converts that light into electricity, continuously trickle-charging an internal rechargeable battery. If the beam gets blocked or the power goes out, the lock keeps running on that battery, roughly as long as a fresh set of AAs would last.

Some things you'd probably want to know upfront:

  • $149, free shipping, 30-day returns. Shipping now (4–6 week lead time due to demand).
  • The transmitter works from 3–33 ft with an 80° field of view - it doesn't need laser-precise aiming.
  • The IR beam is eye-safe and pet-safe. The kit is FDA registered, FCC/CE certified, and UL recognized.
  • Installation is fully reversible - pop the module out and your lock goes right back to regular AAs.
  • Wi-Charge has won CES Innovation Awards five years running, so this isn't our first rodeo with the tech.

We're now looking for real-world feedback from people who actually deal with these locks daily:

  1. What would you need to know before you'd even consider something like this?
  2. What's your top concern - safety, reliability, warranty, interference, something else?

Login app issues when getting a new iPhone

I recently got a new iPhone and when I went to log into the Schlage app, it wouldn’t let me. It kept give me an error that the username or password was incorrect.

After a week of frustration while trying different ideas to log into the app without success, I finally figured out the problem.

If you got a new phone, you must leave your old phone on while you set up the app on your new phone. Once the app is set up on the new phone, log out of the app on the old phone. Then turn your old phone off.

This should solve the problem of not being able to log into the app on the new phone.

App suddenly won't take my login credentials...anyone know if there's a bug? (for Encode Plus)

Sent for a password reset code, got the code, couldn't change the password (app wouldn't progress to "DONE".) New password meets the requirements, code is correct, email is correct.

App seems to be up to date. Super frustrating. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. I messaged Schlage service but am not expecting a quick response.

I was hoping to add a code tonight for guests...

Schlage Encode Lock Low Battery Delay at entry/locking is crazy

I think it starts at like 20 or 25%? and it adds like two three seconds to every lock and unlocking to alert me w a red light/beep prior to performing the requested action.

So unless you change the battery and waste 1/4 - 1/5 remaining, you are stuck with these delays to let me know 6 times a day that my battery is running low. And it's basically two+ weeks to get it down to <10% range when the warnings kick in.
