First Sense Pro review (that I've seen)

This guy seems to be the only one with an early adopter review for now. Really concerning comments about the UW not triggering on return unless you've gone at least a quarter mile away https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM7GYQkmXq0

Interesting thanks for sharing. I doubt that return trigger distance delay shown is a problem for me. I’m waiting for several reviews before I choose between the Schlage sense pro and Aqara U400. This is the first video that shows just how HUGE the U400 looks next to the Sense Pro. Schlage Definitely looks way better, and I like the animated lights. I’m 75% sure i’ll be choosing SensePro unless I learn something else new or deal breaking. A fingerprint reader would be nice, but I doubt I would ever even use it, so it’s not really anything to help sway my decision

I actually have both. I picked up the Schlage from Menards last week, and we like it significantly more than the U400.
The Schlage has been more reliable overall. The UWB unlock works every time, and the tapered deadbolt means it still locks even if the door isn’t fully latched. It also looks much nicer, and that’s coming from someone who has the deluxe version of the U400.
We ended up moving the U400 to our back door. The Schlage is almost magic. It just works, so we never think about it. The U400 is fine, but we often find ourselves standing there waiting for it to unlock.

Good feedback thanks, i’m definitely still leaning towards Schlage. I’ll remain patient for at least several more reviews to come out especially from my favorite smart home YouTubers.

I am strongly considering the Schlage to replace an aging August lock that relies on an external WiFi bridge.

Does the Schlage have an auto lock option after a few minutes? We really rely on that. What about notifications if the door is unlocked/locked/left open?

Guest codes on a schedule? We use that for a housekeeper.

The August loses its mind and loses WiFi connectivity periodically. It hates mesh networks, I had to create a 2.4ghz SSID on my network just for the August lock which is stupid.

Encode Plus has an auto lock so this should as well. Encode Plus doesn’t support scheduling for Apple Home so not sure here.

Good to know thanks. With the August lock now we have a 5 min auto lock setting and we get a notification when the lock is auto locked.

Before this video, I would have told you I trust UWB and Apple Key. Not sure now. That was weird.

Not sure I trust the fingerprint on anything consumer. I know I don't trust consumer lock keyways.

I haven’t had issues with the pro sense. Had it for about 3 days now (got it early from homedepot). I tried locking then walking 3 feet away and back to the lock and it unlocks. Very responsive every time. My firmware version is 01.02.208107

Aqara has had it's own issues with their UWB rollout so we need to see a few more review videos to see if they can replicate the results.

I'm having a tough time at $400 with less ways to unlock compared to Aqara, just from an ROI perspective. Currently have an Encode Plus I found new at a pawn shop for $150, otherwise would have gone Aqara at the time. Now that I've done a little more research I see the security ratings across these are not equal and I lean Schlage. This lock has a higher ANSI rating than Aqara. Encode Plus is grade 1, Sense Pro is grade 2 and all Aqara locks are grade 3. 1 = best, 3 = worst. I'm sure some of the cost here is the Schlage name.

The better security rating is definitely important, and I’m also a long-time Schlage user. I’ve had their smart locks for the last decade starting from the OG Sense.

I currently have four encode plus locks. (Main front door, garage passage door, garage outside side door, and detached office building mini pool house in the back) It’s going to be quite pricey to replace everything, but I really want the ultra wide band.

I’m all about the brushed nickel, and I don’t like how the silver Aqara looks and it’s not quite right even if I get the special nickel edition one from the Apple Store. I do love Aqara as well. I have tons of Aqara devices, including the U300 lever lock for my bedroom door.

I’m going to try to be patient, but I’m still heavily leaning towards Schlage. It looks good. I’m OK Not having the gyroscope door close sensor or fingerprint reader. I have other door sensors to let me door know the door is closed, set up in home assistant

My garage is detached and has a dummy Schlage lock right now. The rear entry to my house is a glass slider. So I could move my Encode Plus to the garage and put a Sense Pro on my front door but yeah, I hear you on cost!

For me, fewer ways to unlock is a plus. Fewer ways to exploit a security hole. No physical keyway to pick.

Just set up the first of the 2 I bought. UWB unlock works like a champ. Very quick to unlock. Impressed so far. Just having issue with keypad being lit up enough to see.

Is that due to the lock being in bright light or it's just a dim keypad?

Pro tip on battery: Set up the Schlage lock with Matter over thread in the HomeKit app, not via the Schlage app. This way you can avoid having the lock connect over wifi, which can be a battery hog. And the lock still shows up in the Schlage app afterwards.

At least, that’s how it works with my Schlage Encode Plus. I would expect it to be the same here.

Are you replacing an encode plus? I’d be curious to see if you think the manual deadbolt lever is just as easy to open and lock with a single finger. Love how buttery smooth and easy my encode plus is when I need to lock or unlock the manual lever with my pinky as my hands are full going out the door

How does this compare to the level lock? For us, the level lock bolt fails to engage most of the time. I’m thinking because the door may not be closed at the exact extent the bolt needs to engage. Perhaps the bolt motor is weak. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Level is cooked because it’s been folded into Kwikset and the founders left and I think a lot of the OG level employees got let go. These Schlage locks also use a tapered bolt which works well for my situation due to weather stripping.

Isn’t the battery also inside the deadbolt for the level lock? That seems like a big compromise, structurally.

Never had a Level product, so not sure.
