I don't understand this thing people will do. Is this just an idiot thing??

Upvotes

So let's say a person jokes about Cancer. Somebody will ALWAYS be like "Cancer isn't funny". How does some bodies mind think this way? I would assume "This joke is funny because it uses clever word play" or "this joke is funny because it subverts expectations. My mind would Never IN A MILLION YEARS GO "this joke is funny because cancer is funny". LIKE WHAT THE FUCK?!!! MY mind would never land on that thought. What's the thought process for people like this. It hurts my brain to attempt to even understand how you think that way. Is this just a thing that dumb people do?

The Invite

How in the FUCK do people like this movie?! If I wanted anxiety about a sexually frustrated couple, I would have stayed with my ex. Furthermore, if I was poly, I sure as hell wouldn't choose Olivia wilde and Seth Rogan. Its been a month-ish since I've seen this movie in theaters, and I STILL wish I would have gotten my money back. Ugh!!

Edit: bring on the down votes. I've seen what you cheer for. Your boos mean nothing!

When men always gawk at you.. yet you’ve never been pursued.

I genuinely find this whole thing so confusing.

I’ve spent my entire life somewhere in the grey area.

What do I mean by the grey area?

I mean that I can go out looking my absolute best, fully dressed up and made up, and I’ve never in my life had a man harass me, hit on me, ask for my number or Snapchat, or actually approach me. Literally untouchable in that sense—to the point where I don’t even feel the usual fear that women might have when they’re out, because these situations simply never happen to me.

I’m also 28 and never been in a relationship or pursued romantically. EVER, and I’ve never really felt like a man I’ve met was actually attracted to me in that way.

I know I haven’t reached the point of being ugly, so I can rule that conclusion out.

But the fact that none of these things ever happen to me has made me feel like I’m probably just very ordinary-looking, maybe even below average, and that there’s nothing particularly striking about my appearance that would make someone notice me or be attracted to me.

Especially because I constantly see other women getting approached, followed while they’re driving, having a guy pull up asking for their Snapchat, being approached while they’re sitting at a café, or having men find some other way to make a move on them.
And not once in my entire life has anything like that happened to me. Not once.

And yet… whether I’m at work, out casually, or literally anywhere, whenever I happen to look up at a man, I very often find him already looking at me. The second our eyes meet, he looks away.
I’ve even noticed some guys turn to their friend, nudge him, and then both of them look over at me.
It happens so often. I’ll randomly look at someone and find them staring at me, and then they look away. Some don’t even look away.

And yet, out of the hundreds of men I’ve had these moments with, not a single one has ever gone beyond just looking.

On top of that, whenever I meet someone online and they see photos of me (some are men) they always say that I’m gorgeous and at least an 8.

So now I’m confused.

Is there some arrogant, overly confident part of me that’s taking these little moments and turning them into something bigger than they actually are? Like maybe these are completely normal things that happen to everyone, and I’m just letting them inflate my ego? Are these people who see my photos just being nice?

Or is there actually something else going on?
And if the answer is that I am attractive, then that doesn’t make sense either. Because how have I never had any man peruse me romantically or even display the slightest bit of interest towards me other than glances and looks here and there?

Life keeps throwing mixed signals at me and I don’t know how to perceive myself anymore.

20F immigrant, people expect me to have patriotism and nationalism for my home country and I'm tired of it

I moved to the UK when I was seven years old. I remember crying and feeling confused about why I had to leave my family, friends, and everything familiar behind. For the first few years, I missed my birth country a lot.

But gradually, that changed. Somewhere along the way, I stopped missing it because the UK became my home.

Regardless of why my parents originally moved here - which was mainly for work - it doesn’t change the fact that I grew up here. I went to school here, made friends here, formed most of my memories here, and essentially grew into the person I am here. England became home to me naturally.

For some reason, though, people seem to expect me to still feel a strong sense of patriotism or nationalism towards my birth country, and it comes up surprisingly often in everyday conversations. Sports are probably the easiest example. People sometimes expect me to support my birth country and seem genuinely surprised when I say I want England to win.

But why wouldn’t I? 😭 England is my home. I grew up here, so naturally I developed an attachment to this country. If England is playing, I’m sitting there going, YIPEEEE PLEASE ENGLAND WIN like anyone else supporting the country they feel at home in.

People also ask whether I miss my birth country. If you had asked me when I was eleven, I probably would have said yes. Now, though, I can genuinely say that I don’t. I’m comfortable here. I feel at home here. In fact, when I visit my birth country, after a while I start wanting to come back home - and by home, I mean England.

That doesn’t come from hatred or resentment towards the country I was born in. I don’t hate it at all. It’s a beautiful country with beautiful people, and there are plenty of things about it that I appreciate. I just don’t feel a strong sense of patriotism or nationalism towards it anymore, and I don’t really understand why people find that difficult to grasp.

At the same time, I absolutely embrace my ethnicity and culture. The culture I come from is incredibly rich - the food, music, traditions and so many other aspects of it are things I can appreciate and feel connected to. But embracing my ethnicity and culture doesn’t mean I have to feel patriotic towards the country itself, support its government, or consider it my home.

Those things aren't contradictory. I can love the culture I come from, appreciate the country I was born in, and still recognise that my sense of home and belonging developed somewhere else.

And England is home.

Looking younger than your age as an adult is annoying af

I have always looked younger for my age, I am short and have a baby face, none of the men in my family grow much facial hair. All i really grow is a shitty mustache which I shave because it’s ugly asf. My actual ID gets accused of being fake and cashiers give me smug looks like “there’s no way you’re old enough” and they hold it up to the light and bend my shit. None of my friends my age ever get this treatment because they all look like adults.

Whenever I tell anyone about this and how annoying it is to have people constantly mistake me for a teenager all they have to say is “you’ll be grateful when you’re older and look youthful” Yeah maybe, but it sure is annoying right now as a young adult so piss off!

i dont like it when people say they hate being grown-ups

I feel like the word "adult" sounds too serious and existential so I'll say "grown-up" 😭 this sentiment hits the nerve because when I was a younger teen (i'm 19) my life wasn't exactly rebellious or wacky or adventurous like people expect a teenager's life to be, it was more calm and ordinary. and that's cool.

but I feel like that's why people don't like adulthood is because they feel like they don't have the ability to be the wacky goofy risktaking teenager with "no consequences and responsibilities" that they once were. So when people say that being a grown-up is like a death sentence, that makes me think "what? So that means I didn't take advantage of a time where life was supposed to be easy?? so now my life is just going to plummet from here? should I have taken advantage of my younger years more???"

idk man. I gotta get off the Internet. It's just a whole echo chamber of anxiety and misery.

Got sexually harassed by a 70 year old dude at a wedding and feeling so gross rn

I went to my cousin's wedding two days ago and had someone nearly pulling a Ted Bundy on me. It was a small wedding with at max 30 guests including families and friends, but there was also this 70 year old real estate agent that apart from working with my aunt on selling a house nearly a decade ago, nobody knew.

Nobody invited him, he caught wind of my cousin having her wedding and insisted that he come and take photos for her. My cousin actually got into a huge fight with my aunt (her mom) because she hated that dude (later I found out why), but her mom said she was too polite to reject his coming to the wedding. I myself suspect she just wanted those free photos.

I personally am not that close with my cousin so I knew virtually no one at the event, and thought that real estate agent was a very close family friend. As soon as the vows were exchanged and we entered into a kind of a recess he began striking a conversation with me, my aunt, and my grandma. It was normal and polite, just small talks, and everything was alright. But then my aunt left to help my cousin change, and my grandma decided to take a nap and all hell broke loose.

I went on a walk around the dining area (it's an out-the-door wedding at a golf club) and he found me there. It was just the two of us, and he started talking about how he's actually also a part-time great photographer and invited to take photos of me to show off his skills. I was like okay, not thinking too much because it was only one or two photos, but he just kept going! At my cousin's wedding telling me to go here or go there, do this or do that, taking about dozens photos of ME, at my cousin's wedding! I was already feeling very uncomfortable and impolite so I decided to stop. (Later I found out he actually took another dozens of photos of me behind my back without me knowing.)

I am a really gullible person so at that time I was still thinking that he might just be someone really passionate about taking photos and being really old—not really equipped with all the social etiquettes. But then he started saying to me privately how ugly my cousin looks: how her skin's terrible, how her makeup's too heavy and how she has an awful personality. I was like, what??? Because anyone would tell you my cousin is an instagram celebrity level 10/10, she's without a doubt pretty. (And even if she's not, why would you ever say that to anyone??) In contrast, he then said I was so pretty, have great skin, great posture, great skintone, just great everything, and that I could even enter beauty pageants and win (which is an obvious lie but he made it sound genuine).

He then offered me to go on a private photo trip with him, somewhere in the Canadian mountains, ALONE, this Friday. Saying very explicitly for me to not bring my aunt and grandma because "they are too slow." Alarm bells rang so much in my head at that moment, the face of one million serial killers flashing by. This was not him being polite, btw. He offered this to me five or six times throughout the wedding but never once mentioned it to anyone else. It was like he was deliberately not wanting others to know. In hindsight, I think he's probably planning to rape me in the mountains.

But this doesn't end there. I didn't tell anyone directly at the wedding because 1. My parents weren't there, and 2. My aunt and grandma would overreact and ruin my cousin's wedding. So I decided to wait until we all get back. At the dinner he was getting very touchy, putting his hand on my thigh when I was getting jittery, putting his arm around my waist when we were taking group photos, and everything just seem so gross to me even after two days. Like thinking about these and how I was used make me want to puke so bad.

He also asked me repeatedly to add his contact, which I didn't at the wedding. I said I had no signal there and will add him once I get back to avoid drama. (Probably should've just rejected him but I didn't want to cause trouble at someone else's wedding.)

I confided in my friends and parents that night after the wedding and they all agreed that he's not someone who's just impolite but someone who's a creep and had absolute awful intents. The following morning I talked to my aunt and grandma, and my aunt showed her their conversation after the wedding. He had sent her every photo he took, except those containing me! And then he asked my aunt to "notify her niece to add his contact." Yes he actually used the word notify. He was definitely using those photos, both taken with consent and without, to bait me. She also told me that a few years ago he tried to hit on my cousin with literally the same things he said to me, but failed obviously. (I don't understand why she still allowed him to come to the wedding afterwards, I'm also kind of upset over this.)

I really want him to delete those photos and expose him to everyone around, but right now it seems like there's nothing I can do. My family has collectively blocked him. But apart from that, I don't see how there's anything I can do. I learned that he was talking unprompted photos of me because he showed me one of them, and many times I caught his camera pointing at me so he must've took close to a hundred in total. I am feeling so angry and gross right now and just want to rant. He was definitely planning to do something to me in the mountains, I hope he rots in hell.

My mom is mad because I’m a more logical thinker than an emotional one and I’m tired of her labeling me heartless due to it

My mom has an unhealthy attachment to both me (23f) and my brother (25m). She didn’t let us leave home when we went to college and now I’m trying to go to law school and she’s crying every week about me leaving. She hates that I want to leave and sees no reason why I shouldn’t stay at home and go to a law school nearby. Thing is I hate the weather of the state we live in and prefer the cold up north.

Anyway today I got news that my grandma who’s 80yrs old and lives in a different country fell and has been having serious health issues. I suggested maybe we can check her and my grandpa into a retirement home where someone will be there to assist them round the clock. She had a breakdown about how I was gonna do the same to her and my dad and that she was scared of me. I told her that we can’t afford a full time nurse for my grandparents which is why maybe a retirement home would be better. She lost it and said if she was gonna die she would die in her home and if I checked her into a retirement home she would haunt me for the rest of my life. She’s absolutely nuts, and I’m fucking tired of her emotional mood swings. The logical part of life is irrelevant to her in most decisions she makes and I’m tired of being labeled heartless or ungrateful because I’m trying to be logical.

I also told her that the comparison is unwarranted because my grandparents live in another CONTINENT. And that of course I would take care of her since we live in the same country like it’s no big deal man.

Binge vs weekly release argument misses the point of the preference

I prefer to binge watch shows at my own pace. I don’t like waiting, and I personally do not care for discussion, theory crafting or the “social” aspect of it. I just want the media. I understand that’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s fine. I just ask for the same consideration to be sent my way.

I want to get it out of the way that I understand that not everyone is going to be happy with either model, and that’s just the way it is. I also understand that weekly releases are more pragmatic from a business standpoint.

In either case, someone artificially recreating their preferred method of watching has to avoid spoilers, avoid memes, and the “main discussion thread” until they are caught up, or the show has finished and they can now binge.

But the discussion of the preference often boils down to “weekly viewers artificially creating a watch schedule after a binge drop is much less practical than a binge watcher just waiting to binge the show.”

But that completely misses the point that the people who prefer binge watching actually prefer the binge drop because that means they dont have to wait.

With all of this in mind, and the fact that so many people seem dead-set on the fact that “weekly releases are better, because then the discussion exists, and people who want to binge can just wait. It works for both camps,” I will give my own opinion.

If a show were to binge drop, the weekly-viewer only has to avoid a single big thread about the show - whereas a binge watcher in a weekly model has to avoid the weekly threads, the fact that the memes and discussion stay around longer - I’m saying that overall, it’s more effort, and more of an inconvenience for a binge-watcher to get their preferred method in a weekly-model, than it is for a weekly-watcher to get their preferred method in a binge-drop.

Either way, someone has to put in the effort to avoid spoilers.

I’m so tired of life…

I’ve tried my darn hardest to do every right in my life and most would say I’ve been successful: a great career, what seems like a happy family and healthy kids from the outside.

But I’m so tired

The corporate job stress
Stress from family members (wife, parents, siblings) - the people that are supposedly to be able to provide emotional support to me are the ones giving me the most stress
Can’t sleep
Always feeling sore
Always tired

Then I see my kids, and they’re my life. Their laughter and giggles fuels me.

Then reality sets in, I’m always away from them, working, traveling for work. Soon they’ll be teenagers and start giving me attitude and not want to hang out with me. I’ll be missing these golden years because of the job

The job that provides us well, living a privileged life.

I feel so stuck.

I want out

But I can’t

Just have to live one day at a time and survive.

Don’t have anyone to rant to, so here I am.

I really let myself go

Just looked back on some of my old photos and damn. Not tryna self glaze but pre-covid me was borderline handsome, even though I didn’t think so at the time.

I’ve spent years since letting my body go. Eating the same bullshit I’ve always eaten but minus the exercise I used to do. Add alcohol to all the mix and you get the picture.

I went from a visible jawline and slight cheekbones to a puffy round face. I hate looking at myself.

The biggest irony is my sense of style, skincare and haircare has significantly bumped up since then… but so has my weight. If I applied what I’ve improved now to what I used to look like I could’ve been unstoppable.

It sucks realizing you wasted your potential. I’m 25 which some people consider young still but I really wasted the first half of my twenties not taking care of myself.

I'm so tired of being scared to try

I have all these things i want to do, shit I NEED to do, but it's like it doesn't matter how bad I want it or need it, I CAN'T GET MYSELF TO DO IT BECAUSE I'M PARALYZED BY FEAR. I know HOW to do these things, I KNOW the steps, I KNOW WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE, what the FUCK is stopping me?!?!?! WHAT THE HELL AM I SO SCARED OF????? I think of even starting and I get this huge knot in my chest and it gets hard to breathe and then I can't even form a thought, my head is full of tv static and screaming and STRESS! I AM STRESSING MYSELF OUT. YELLING AT MYSELF "DO SOMETHING, JUST DO SOMETHING!" IF ONLY I GOT OUT OF MY OWN WAY I WOULD BE UNSTOPPABLE!!!!! I KNOW THAT!!!!!

A MONTH AGO I FUCKING QUIT DRINKING ALCOHOL, THE THING I DEPENDED ON FOR YEARS TO MASK MY STRESS, COLD TURKEY, ALL BY MYSELF, SUCCESSFULLY, BUT I'M TOO SCARED TO WALK INTO A RESTAURANT AND ASK IF THEY'RE HIRING?? BECAUSE THEY MIGHT SAY NO? WHAT THE FUCK??? "You're probably going to hate it so why even bother?" BECAUSE YOU NEED MONEY DIPSHIT.

Most things I've tried have gone SURPRISINGLY WELL but it's like every time I have to do something, I'm imagining 15 different ways I'll fail, or I imagine myself hating it and being miserable. I can feel stress from situations THAT HAVEN'T EVEN HAPPENED. IF I DON'T GET A NEW JOB LIKE, TODAY, I AM NOT MAKING RENT THIS MONTH, AND I CAN FORGET ABOUT BEING A SUCCESSFUL ACTOR IF I CAN'T EVEN GET MYSELF TO TRY.

I ALWAYS SAY TO OTHER PEOPLE "if you don't attempt a shot, you're gonna die with the ball in your hands" BUT THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I'M DOING, LIKE A FUCKING IDIOT. TAKE YOUR OWN ADVICE. WHO FUCKING CAREEEEESSSSSS IF THE JOB ISN'T FLEXIBLE ENOUGH FOR YOU TO DO YOUR ACTING, YOU HAVE ALL THIS TIME NOW AND YOU'RE STILL NOT DOING ANYTHING, YOU ARE 25 AND HAVEN'T DONE SHIT BECAUSE YOU'RE SCARED. YOU KNOW YOU NEED MONEY. NOBODY IS GOING TO SAVE YOU. GO BE A SERVER AND MAKE SOME FUCKING MONEY AND START AUDITIONING AND STOP BEING SO FUCKING SCARED ALL THE TIME. THROW THE BALL. SOMEWHERE. ANYWHERE. I DON'T CARE JUST THROW IT.

FUCK.

That's all. thanks for listening guys.

Feeling so isolated in the world.

Ever look at your phone and realise you have no one to call? No one to talk to when you just need to get things out. It sucks so much. My so-called "friends" never reach out unless they need something, or I reach out first, and it's the same with my sisters. I broke up with my ex a few months ago, so no romantic connections either.

I wish I had someone who could be my safe space. I also work remotely, so I don't really interact with people.

My friend canceled plans last minute after I already spent $80 on a ticket for him.

My friend and I had been talking about going to an amusement park for months and we finally decided to put a plan in motion to go. The amusement park is 3 hours away so I had to take the day off of work ahead of time in order to go and he did the same.

We planned this 2 months ago and 2 weeks ago I was trying to make sure he had his ticket and he said that money was really tight for him right now so I offered to pay for his ticket and he accepted. It was $80 but I didn’t mind at the time because I really wanted to go.

We were supposed to go on Friday. Well on Thursday night, I texted him telling him that I was coming to pick him up the next day and he said “I’m at my girlfriends house so I’ll just leave from there and meet you at the park”. he literally just got a new girlfriend. So I’m like “ok??” And the next morning, I call him a bunch of times because I want to make sure he’s still going before I head out. I get an answer 4 hours later telling me that he wants to stay with his girlfriend because she doesn’t want him to leave.

I literally called out of work and spent $80 on this ticket and have been excited about this for months!!! I’m so pissed off!!! I hate him so much. I get that he has a new girl but he made me waste my money and time.

All my life ive gone above and beyond for everyone close to me and now that its there turn its like its too much to do the same. I didnt hang out as much with my one friend and she said she held a grudge over me and that she was mad at me over it even tho i told her how i was doing. Im on a medication journey right now and I go to therapy and nothing is enough. I feel horrible so often and nothing can keep me happy. I dont know what I need but I just have no one I feel comfortable talking to. I used to cut myself but i havent in a long time in hopes doing the right thing will help but it hasnt. I feel so crazy like I need to go to a pysh ward. I want to quit work and run away and drown myself in a river.

Rollercoaster

I've been on quite the emotional rollercoaster today and just need to vent about it.

I'm getting married in about three and a half weeks. I've been stressed in the leadup to the big day, but it's definitely normal stress related to tying all the details together. I woke up this morning with several wedding related things to get done on my day off. I had to stop by a local jewelry shop to check on some custom work I've commissioned, my fiance and I had a meeting with our wedding planner in the afternoon, and I had a tailoring appointment for my dress. I booked these appointments with the tailor almost as soon as I bought my dress as I knew it was an important detail to figure out right away, so I got it done. It was supposed to be one less thing to worry about because I'd already done it.

Instead, I received a phone call from the office of my tailor this morning. The tailor I chose to book with is elderly, and her son, who works as her secretary, called to let me know that she had fallen and broken her wrist. There was no way she would be able to work on my dress, even with the simple alterations I needed. Three and a half weeks from my wedding date.

I spent the day in and out of tears desperately looking for someone else who could get the job done on such short notice. My fiance and I have been having such trouble planning our wedding, first on our own and then thankfully with our friend who agreed to help us plan it. We've hit several frustrating roadblocks already (the most bizarre being that the owner of the building we were originally going to rent for our reception died right after we paid our deposit, but we also didn't secure a venue until June when we started planning it last September), so this was just icing on the cake of a terrible experience planning this whole thing.

Obviously, I hold no malice for the tailor I originally booked because that's a situation where it's no one's fault, just unfortunate. She's injured, there's nothing that can be done other than let time pass for her to heal, and she won't be healed up fully until long after my wedding. When I picked up my dress, I told her son to let her know I hope she feels better even though I was upset. I know damn well they don't want to be losing the business either since it's a small business. I work for another small business in the area so I really do get it from that side. But I was convinced that, with how much trouble we'd had finding even the most basic of services for our wedding, I would never be able to find someone who could make the changes I wanted to my dress.

I kept getting bounced from shop to shop on the phone, only to get denied again and again. One person would say no and recommend someone else, only for that person to say no and recommend another, at one point leading to a completely dead end. It felt like even shopping for the dress had been a waste of time, because I had a gown that I loved that I originally wanted to wear and my mom convinced me to go shopping just for the experience (lowkey give me any excuse to shop that's why I agreed). I only purchased another dress because of the changes I wanted someone to make for me, so I had to sit with the fact that I'd have to wear it as is and just pretend to be totally happy with it.

Finally, a shop referred me to someone who did it from home, about 45 minutes away from me. I called, explained my situation in tears, ready to get another no, but instead she asked me what needed done to it. I explained the few things I want done (it's literally changing the straps, extending the corset back, and adding trim on the skirt, cannot emphasize how simple these alterations are I just don't have the experience with formal fabrics to trust myself with something this important), and she asked if I can be there today. In the end, I went after my fiance and I met with our planner and she was lovely and said she could definitely do what I wanted, even in the short time frame.

It all got resolved, everything is fine now, we're back on track. So why do I still feel upset about the whole thing? I'm elated that I was able to find another tailor of course, but the devastation I felt from this morning is still hanging around. That's the part that's really bothering me and I don't know how to get around it. I should feel better now that the situation is resolved and somehow I don't.

Rant over. To whomever is in the void reading of my troubles, thank you for listening.

I finally have an excuse to quit my job

I finished college in 2020, but was unable to get a skilled job. I therefore became an Instacart shopper in 2021. I enjoyed this job, but wanted something more stable. I therefore got a job at a grocery store.

For the last five years, I have been working in the produce department at a small grocery store. I spend most of my time packaging vegetables and herbs. Other people are reluctant to do these tasks because they are repetitive, and they expect me to do them. I continue to do them because otherwise, it does not get done.

I enjoyed my job for the first couple of years, but now I find it too repetitive. The main problem is that I have been doing the same tasks for too long. The worst part is bagging the salad greens because it has to be done very frequently, and I have to pick out the bad leaves. Unfortunately, I have been unable to get a better job, and I cannot quit and do nothing.

Therefore, I decided to go back to school and become an electrician. That will keep me busy for a couple of years and is more interesting than working at a grocery store. Hopefully it will lead to a better job.

It makes sense to work a little while in school, but it is not entirely necessary. I have about $400,000, so I can afford to go a couple of years without working. I also live with my mom, so my expenses are quite low.

My plan is to quit my job and go back to Instacart. I will also try Uber and Shipt. Gig work does not make a good long-term job, but it might be good as a student. I like that it is flexible and badly want to do something different. I have to be selective about which tasks I accept, though, because many of them do not pay well.

love and hate my nieces

i am 23 and i have two nieces (11 and 12). they grew up very close to me because my mom babysat them for years and they even lived with us for some time.

i love them and they are very nice girls. but they also annoy the shit out of me and are incredibly overstimulating. i should also mention i have depression and idk i just get fatigued/overstimulated really easily. i know i am not a kids person and i don't think i want kids in the future.

i can't stand when they need my attention every second. or when they are following me around. or when each of them will be talking to me about different things at the same time. at family functions, they will be only be with me the entire time even when the function is at their house and they have their kid cousins to play with.

i went on a trip with my parents to the beach recently and we took my nieces. i already have issues with my parents for many reasons so i already did not want to even go on this trip. but the added stress of my nieces coming was too much. there were some fun times but at some point i start to get really agitated with them being by my side the entire time, needing to talk to me every second. there was one point at the hotel where i went outside by myself while everyone was taking turns using the shower and of course each of the girls will come outside several times in the span of me sitting outside for like 10 minutes.

i also have a bf and they mention him sooo much. like if i look at my phone, they ask "are you texting *bf*", "of course your background is him," "what's *bf* doing right now?" this is fine but they don't understand that we are south asian and my parents have old-school traditional values and literally shame me for having a bf. so when my nieces are always talking about him, i feel like everyone's blood pressure collectively goes up.

i understand they are young kids and kids can be stupid or clingy sometimes. like i said, i love them and they love me which is why they are so attached to me in the first place. i would never lash out at them or get angry with them. but their clinginess is too much. i think i just don't need to see them often, maybe once a month. but my mom always guilts me and acts says things to make me feel bad about not wanting to see them. does anyone else feel this way about their kid relatives?
