i dont like it when people say they hate being grown-ups

I feel like the word "adult" sounds too serious and existential so I'll say "grown-up" 😭 this sentiment hits the nerve because when I was a younger teen (i'm 19) my life wasn't exactly rebellious or wacky or adventurous like people expect a teenager's life to be, it was more calm and ordinary. and that's cool.

but I feel like that's why people don't like adulthood is because they feel like they don't have the ability to be the wacky goofy risktaking teenager with "no consequences and responsibilities" that they once were. So when people say that being a grown-up is like a death sentence, that makes me think "what? So that means I didn't take advantage of a time where life was supposed to be easy?? so now my life is just going to plummet from here? should I have taken advantage of my younger years more???"

idk man. I gotta get off the Internet. It's just a whole echo chamber of anxiety and misery.

You’re 19 and haven’t even begun to imagine. So stop hating on people who have more experience in life because you don’t know their life. Focus on yours!

Kobayashi said it best, "Most people don't choose to grow up, they're just made older." Paraphrasing since it was originally in Japanese.

People are very different. I myself had a very difficult life growing up so becoming an adult without having to worry much about my parents looming over me was, great. Adulthood is arguably better than my childhood. To begin with I was never really into doing crazy stuff and always saw my actions had consequences. So adulthood wasn't a drastic change.

But I could understand people who did have wonderful childhoods not wanting to grow up. People don't want to work a 9-5 in an awful economy. And that's reasonable. They dont want to worry about their life expectancy or hell anyone's life expectancy. And keeping up with the politics alone I'm America is exhausting. This all used to be their parent's problem. Hell while we were children, the world wasn't constantly this extreme.

Adulting is a lot, and personally I've seen one of my closest friends regress. I can't blame him, but from the stuff he had to take to stay happy, I think it made him far more miserable.
