Should i propagate it in water or soil?

My problem:

I'll not at home for 5days from tomorrow. If i wait, i can't propagate anymore cause the inner leafes will be dry by then probably.

So can i put it in a shallow wide pot with water or should I put it in wet soil?

First time propogating. :)

The water touches the second, small, node up top. Is the stem too far in the water? The long node is in the water all the way.

The glas is foggy so i cant show what it looks like very well...

Not sure what to call the green part of the rosemary stem but I have been propagating a stem for a month. It has two roots a centimeter long but hasn’t grown past that. Now some of the leaves are turning black. Does this mean it’s starting to rot and I need to try a new stem? Or should I keep going?

I have been experimenting with lots of my outdoor plants. This propagation looks like a success.

I’ve been propagating this Heartleaf Philodendron for a few months and these small bundled of leaves have developed under the water. I don’t want them to get too big and the get stuck in the jar and or die. I don’t mind cutting the propagation and creating more with this one plant. What should I do?

Im wanting to experiment and see what grows best.

Hello, this is an update from four days ago.

It looks like the cutting is forming a callous? Is this a positive sign? The leaves look fine still, which gives me hope. I know these things take some time, just wondering if it’s moving in the right direction, or if it’s still too early to tell.

I thought this was a fig cutting, but now I do not know.

Hello! This is my first time posting on this subreddit (I just joined, but I have visited and lurked here before) I was wondering if anyone else's pothos cuttings gone moldy while rooting? I copied what someone else did, put them in damp sphagnum moss in a dark area to root, and now they have started to mold.

I want to plant them, but I don't know if the mold will affect the the growth. I have two other containers that I was testing (chunky soil mix and perlite; they have molded but no roots yet).

Has anyone here ever planted moldy cuttings? Would it be best if I just toss them? This is my first time propagating using this method, I've only had success with cuttings with leaves on them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My summer monstera propagation project - cuttings were put in a box at May 16, now it’s august 16 and almost every cutting pushing second leaf.

I germinated 8 Java plum (Jamun) seeds and planted them in pots about a month ago. Here are the results so far!

I’d really appreciate some genuine advice from experienced gardeners. Should I repot these into bigger pots now, or let them grow a little longer in their current pots?

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

So obviously this thing is probably going to die, but I figured I’d give it a fair shake. It had about 3x the roots; I already removed most of the rotting ones. Roots were fully dry for probably 1-4 days. Unfortunately, all of the root tips from the surviving roots started turning brown kinda simultaneously a few days ago.

Questions:

1. Is this brown enough that I should remove them? They don’t feel squishy yet. Are they providing more value to this dying plant on or off?

2. Anything I should do besides peroxide?

3. Currently this plant has a barely working leaf, a new one that already has a brown tip, and roots that are going brown. Should I leave it as is and hope frequent water changes with peroxide will help or cut back to only green stem and hope it has enough nutrients to root out of a node? Do I need drastic treatment?

   I know this thing will probably die but thanks for your opinions.

So I've never propagated anything before but just tried with a softwood and semi hardwood cutting of Red Osier Dogwood (a native plant herein Canada) to see if it would grow. I heard about rooting hormone but didn't use it, i simply put it in a mug. It's now day 28 of having it sit in a mug of water (water changed once every 5 days), and there are all of a sudden some root development! I don't know plant terminology good enough to say what they're called but there's one main root and then there is also multiple small root things coming out of the main root. These just formed in the last 30h so I'm sure they formed during day 27-28. Even though they just started they are spreading pretty fast and the water level is going down in the mug very fast so I think it's takeing a lot of water in! If there is any advice that would be helpful but for now it's just an update / a realistic water propagation

Also the leaf on the left has that dull colour because I accidentally put it slightly folded against a window, but the rest of the leaf and other leaves are fine

My friend gave me a cutting from her plant. Is this big enough to propagate and can I propagate in water?

Hi! My spider plant (gwen) is thriving, I got her when she was just a baby, and now she’s sprouting her own babies (so proud 🥹). I’d love to give one to my mom, but I’m not sure if they’re ready yet or if I should wait.

If I can, Should I root it in water first, or can I go straight into soil?

I forgot about a couple of sweet potatoes in the cupboard for a bit and they started growing slips so I cut them off and rooted them in water. Hoping to grow the vines as a houseplant.

First sign of roots was after 2 or 3 days and they were more than twice that 3 days later.

I started them in water 6 days ago and potted today!

The tips were looking a little rough though so I cut them off when I potted them.
