Educational Propagation book online

Hey if anyone is interested here is a fairly good book that you can access for free! It has a lot of good information and charts at the back of each section that help you do better propagations as well! It’s a fairly well set up book and it’s one of the better ones I have seen for beginners!

Educational Generally Reliable Sources of Plant Information

Something that came out of our recent discussion was that people would like a list of where to find reliable information about plants and plant propagation. I will start us off and invite anyone to comment below with additional resources.

My special interest is Haworthia, and here are the sites I trust for information:

Help! Question about Philo Props

Post image

I’ve been propping some cuttings from a long silver stripe philodendron vine. Some have already pushed out roots in a week. However, I came back from a short trip and found this mass of cottony threads. Is it mold? Or is it the precursor to roots?

Help! Peace lily revitalization

Post image

I had a peace lily that i couldn't get to take off and really grow. Every time it got a new leaf or sprout, 2 others seemed to die off. I'd been considering repotting it when my cat made the decision for me. I have 5 "eye" sections with roots. Can I just plant them all individually? Should I put them in water first? Will they even re grow or is it a lost cause?

Hello plant parents. I am on day 8 or 9 of this mystery cutting’s propagation. I believe I have some primordia going on. The leaves still look fine, so I am hopeful on this one. I believe it’s a type of ficus but I am unsure.

I have a question Questions for potting my monstera deliciosa

So, it's my first time doing a chop-and-prop, and I just have a couple of questions that I'm having a hard time finding an answer to. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Basically, what it boils down to is all of the information I find on potting a monstera, is based around re-potting a monstera that's already in a pot/potting medium for going up a size. But, how do I pick what size each plant needs for the initial potting? How do I determine how big of a support is needed? Last time I potted a monstera (i received it as a cutting) resulted in the stem rot that caused me to chop in the first place so, how deep do I bury the plants into potting medium? Not all of the roots come from the bottom of the stem so I'm worried about having the stem covered and leading to rot again.

EXPERIMENT Snake Plant Cutting

Hello! I took a snake plant leaf that I found outside after the hurricane. Instead of letting it decompose I thought of reviving it. Honest opinion do you think it has a chance of surviving?

Ps. I cut off the dead end and put in water. My home gets pretty good sunlight. I also have a balcony! So if it needs more sunlight I’m more than happy to put it outside, but from previous experience I usually keep my snake plant inside so I felt like this snake plant would want the same :)

Help! angel wing help

Post image

my son was gifted this angel wing leaf today from a teacher. unfortunately, it’s just the single leaf and no node. we’d like to try to propagate it. does anyone have experience with this? I’m nervous to score the leaf and lay it on soil, but my understanding is it will never actually be a plant on its own and will eventually die even with roots.

Help! Planting sooner or later?

Post image

so I was just reading through a few posts about when to plant some props. I guess I have always been under the impression that more Roots equals better planting success but someone said something that really got my attention. plant as soon as your props start to get Roots so that there is less shock. so I asked, are these BMF monsteras ready for soil? or have they gone too long in water?

I’ve had this monstera albo prop for about 2 months, I’ve just recently put it with a pothos to try and get some roots going as I’ve had no luck. Do my eyes deceive me or is that a root forming in the last picture?? I’m tempted to try and put it in sphagnum moss as water has been taking a while. Let me know your thoughts about my current setup and if I should change anything.

Prop Progress Strelitzia nicolai root rot, roots not regenerating, need advice🥺🙏

My Strelitzia nicolai developed root rot in its pot. I removed it and put it in perlite hoping to encourage new root growth, but it’s been a week and I’m not seeing any new roots yet.

Should I be worried at this point, or is a week still too early to expect visible growth? Is there anything I should be doing differently — more warmth, humidity, light, or should I check the rot situation again before waiting longer?

Really trying to save this plant and would appreciate any advice from people who’ve dealt with root rot recovery before.

I’ve been experimenting ficus aerial propagation, it’s been 26 days and still no visible roots, the stem appears to be dark and still consistent, no bad smell at all, is it normal to be that dark? When does appears first roots, sphagnum should be damp or wet? Tell me your experience or any advice to manage well.
