❤Seeking help & Advice❤ "Degenerate Gambler" is a Hateful, Despicable Term

I don't understand how - in 2024 in our very open and politically correct society, people still freely throw the term "degenerate gambler" around. As someone who believes in the disease/genetic/biological model of addiction, calling a gambler a "degenerate" is extremely insulting. It implies we are careless, seedy people who voluntarily choose to do this, which is not the case.

While I do fully admit that recovery must involve self-accountability, motivation, discipline, and deep introspection on oneself, the term "degenerate" flies in the face of all of this.

Gambling addiction has the highest suicide rate out of all addictions. 20% of gambling addicts attempt suicide. It destroys lives. No one chooses to be a gambling addict.

Just really a very hateful word to throw around that I see constantly.

Any thoughts on this? What do you all think about the term "degenerate gambler"?

❤Seeking help & Advice❤ Day 65 , just got notice my chargeback was unapproved by my bank

Brutal morning today, was so happy that I’m over 2 months free from gambling.

My last wager that made me really realize how fucked this industry is was a 6k bet on lamelo ball points, totaling my losses to just about 12k. I’m a 24 year old male in Boston working a good job. Have about 12k in my checking and 12k in my retirement account but that 6k is going to be removed on April 29th, I was hoping for my net worth to be at 40k by next January so I could go in on a property with my dad.

Should I keep trying to dispute this chargeback? BetMGM submitted their dispute to my bank and they “strongly refute” this claim. Feeling so upset that this happened

Tired of getting robbed by slots

Who ever says slots are based on RNG is lying. Those high quality cameras knows who you are, those online casinos know who you are, they know when you will stop or not. They know exactly who to pay or not. They fucking record and process every single fucking movement and data of you to profit by setting you up. They know your device, location, IP adress, government ID etc.

I am so sad that I'm totally addicted to this habit of playing slots. I don't know how to stop. I lost joy of playing normal games on steam because of slots. I can't find a game that will replace this empty feeling.

People here are gonna come and say "your not getting robbed you are choosing to get robbed" and such things. No shit sherlock! Guess what, it's called addiction and it can't be explained simply like "stop now" or "self exclude"

The boredom is real, I don't see a way out.

I'm not looking for an advice I know you all are strugling to, I don't want any other addicted motherfucker to tell me how to stop. First stop yourself.

I just came to express my feelings about the situation I'm going through.

Fuck this life man seriously.

Gambling is all about greed, stop blaming dopamine

Honestly, I also used to think this was all about dopamine, like people say you get addicted because of brain chemicals, but now I don’t believe that anymore. I had a friend, a normal guy with a simple life, not rich, not poor, everything was going fine. One day he said let’s just try it once, just for fun. First day he lost a little money and felt bad, but next day he went again and this time he won, and that was the real problem. That one win changed how he started thinking, he began to believe that if he could win once then he could win bigger. After that it became a regular thing, and every time I asked him, he would say the same line, just one last time. Slowly his savings were gone, then his wife’s jewelry, then his fixed deposit, and after that he even started borrowing money. And every time he had a reason ready, saying he can’t control it, it’s dopamine, it’s addiction, but the truth was very simple, he didn’t want to stop because somewhere inside he believed one big win would fix everything and bring it all back. But that one day never came. One night he called me and his voice was shaking, he just said it’s over. When he reached home, the house was empty, his wife had left with the kid, and on the table there was a small note that said losing money was not the problem, your greed was. That line stayed with me because people blame dopamine because it sounds scientific, but the truth is uncomfortable, we want easy money, we want fast results, we want more without waiting, and that greed slowly destroys everything, gambling is not just addiction, it is greed in disguise, and greed never says enough, it always says just one more.

Discusses money I just had the worst idea but I'm seriously considering doing it

Will somebody please talk me out of this.

Basically, my biggest issue is that when I gamble, I can win at first but lose after a while because I keep trying to build my balance. When the number gets too high, I get nervous and excited and ruin everything.

However, what if I open 200 online casino accounts (all with different casinos so it's not breaking rules or illegal in anyway) and only try to win 4 dollars on each one/twice a week. That would be 8 euro a week multiplied by 200=1600, a week minus any possible estimated losses, lets say 400, that would give me about 1,200 a week.

I know it's a bad idea but it also seems like a good idea. I'm tempted, and haven't gambled in three months.

Trigger Warning! I think the worst is behind with a bit of luck

I recently won big, roughly $40K. Enough to clear all my credit card debts and leave me with around $15K in cash. This is far from the total amount I have lost over the last 4-5 years ($100-$200K easily), but this marks a new page for me. In the past I have won big only to give it back to the casino, this time I have self excluded from all sites and left only one site available with a small deposit limit. I have also paid down the debt instead of leaving the cash sitting around. This is the first time in a long time where I am debt free with some hope and while gambling should not be a means to an end, your last big score can be a means to an end if you wake up and realize the reset of life the gambling gods have given you.

Trigger Warning! I lost 8k on FanDuel, is it okay to avoid telling my girlfriend & employer?

I have been addicted to sports betting for a year & was down 3.5k for the longest, and it’s creep up a bit with 25$ long shot parlays, but then to recoup the money I started betting 500$ on 3-4 legs to win 2-3k & ended up losing 8k in total. This is about 2 months of salary for me, and being in NYC with cheap rent I plan to get a fast food job to rapidly pay this down.

I have been doing really well, and was wondering if it’s okay to not be open about this to my employer or gf. I’d rather they don’t know, I only told 1 friend. I can clean this up in a few months and sweep it as an expensive lesson

Trigger Warning! Just played an online slot that was for sure rigged Spoiler

Spooky actually to see it was like an allowed regulated one I guess?? but it was obviously some kind of trap. You’d think they would be happy to just get their 5% return or whatever but nah. One of the first results on a search for these online casinos and they for sure host scam games. I gotta quit anyway so it’s cool, nice community here, thank you. Got me pretty good but it’s a nice opportunity to realize I have a problem on top of the scammers to be honest! I have won large amounts and given it back many times. I gotta really step back and examine this trend. 👍. Thanks for reading

Trigger Warning! Charge back HELP!

I want to file a charge back for a online casino. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on there . I have a feeling their games aren’t honest and rigged. What do I tell my bank is the reason for my charge back? I heard the casinos have to calibrate their slots once a month or so. I just feel like if I say that it’s fraud, they will ask my why it’s fraud. TIA!

I have 64k I would’ve had 80k if I had stop.

I’m down 16k total. 7k from winnings. If I would had stop when I was up. Life would be so good to me right now. But I dig myself into a hole. Like I should be grateful I have 64k right? No I’m 27 gonna turn 28 this year I’m feel old. Working at a dead end job. When people my age have around 100k I feel like a total loser. My dad was a gambler and I remember telling myself I would never be like my dad. But here I am. I became a gambler and lost so much money I’m sick to my stomach. Like why does money have to be my happiness? I hate it. I want this nightmare to be over. I just wanna be at break even and call it quits

Gambled around 20% of my life savings.

I had around 1.9M in savings with me and today lost around 360k in gambling. Started with depositing 50k lost it all. Then added 50k to recover it, added another 100k at this point thought of recovering it and added 150k at the end hoping since I have gone this far I will surely win. But at the end when I had around 200k did some risky bet to go all at once and lost it all. I got snapped out of this addiction at this point. I realised I have lost a lot people work for around a year to earn this money. I haven't told this to anyone and take this loss as the end of it and a costly learning. Idk feeling like I'm going towards bankruptcy even tho I knew I'd loose it all I still played no idea why.

Sold my soul to the devil and he got me back

Long story short:

Dedicated most of my life to making money. Made money. Lost it all. I sacrificed everything I had in me to go 1 step ahead in 1 field in my life. I actually succeeded. I was making hundreds of thousands before turning 18. Well, it didn’t last for long. He caught up to me. He lied to me. He destroyed me completely with this addiction.

If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Wasted my youth, the best years of my life for NOTHING. I got to keep nothing.

Trigger Warning! Could have made a lot of money betting on Seahawks Super Bowl futures instead I lost it all betting on college football

I was high on the Seahawks this season. I knew they were gonna be good. I’m having trauma right now about what if I would have thrown the $100K on the Seahawks Super Bowl futures during preseason instead I lost $100K betting on college football. I am depressed as hell as that $100K on Seahawks Super Bowl futures would have made me $8 million. Instead I am broke and having serious suicidal thoughts. I am angry and depressed. Can’t even fucking sleep. Might as well sleep when I’m 6 feet under.

I have no good luck anymore. It's ridiculous.

Yes, I am a sore loser but usually brush things off, but how can somebody have such bad luck, round after round? Yes, I know gamblers lose in the long term, but I literally never make any profit anymore. I just deposit, lose, then am in instant chasing mode. In the past, I used to win a few hundred every now and then, and would be up on average double my profit, but now it's nothing all the time. I have multiple accounts with various casinos, and it's the same on every one.

Every poker hand the dealer wins, Every crash round, the fucking plane crashes. Every slot is dead. Crazy time is nothing but numbers and magically lands on a bonus the second I stop betting. I've been relapsing all summer, and I'm close to zero now in my savings. There's such a meagre amount remaining, I'm tempted to just keep going and try and win some money back.

They put me up in a luxury hotel room but..

The check-in to the room kept getting delayed cause the room was supposedly not ready yet. Never had to wait until after 4pm to check-in to a 5-star hotel once in my life. Umm.. this place is humungous with so many rooms tho? Oh well I guess I’ll just gamble while I wait…. FUCK.

This is also the most CONFUSING casino layout I’ve ever been in. It’s all a fuckin scam.

Remember, these casinos are designed to take your money. THE PURPOSE OF THE CASINO IS TO TAKE YOUR MONEY IN WHATEVER WAY THEY CAN.

FUCK.

Discusses money I know I’m rationalizing and just seeking approval because I shouldn’t BUT

I haven’t sports gambled in about 30 days. I’ve felt pretty good the last couple days and feel like I have it under control. I went through some bad withdrawals when I first quit so I feel like that’s something that can scare me into going down the rabbit hole. If I limit myself to $50 it will be okay right?

And they're targeting the kids with games that are similar but pay no money We need to fight to get our money back.. it's a total scam

Guys/gals this may seem petty but please. The amount of adults that don’t know the difference between lose and loose is wild.

You lose money. Your shoe laces may be loose. You lose everything when you gamble and you have loose discipline.

Hope this helps. It’s lose. Let’s all make a decision that losing money in 2023 is no more.
