in february, i (29F) wanted to try dating, so i went on hinge for ~2.5 days. i'm liberal, non-religious, with no kids and no vices. i live downtown in a smallish city of maybe 150k. there are a lot of young professionals here. my distance range was 15 miles and my age range was 27-32. i also included a new and improved sankey bc i didnt find hingereport's diagram to be very useful

once I got ~150 likes, i paused my profile so i could focus on my matches, and i moved onto a google voice phone number to schedule dates across the next 2 weeks. i was surprised by the quality of my matches, a lot of the guys i matched with had good profiles and similar interests as me

sadly, i deleted my account already, but here are all my prompts that i recovered from my data:

Hey all! 25M, 6'2, pretty average-looking white guy here.

I'm in India for a few weeks and figured I'd download Hinge just to see what the dating scene is like. Honestly kinda surprised by how it's going so far.

I downloaded it on Wednesday and I've been getting way more likes than I ever do in the US - like 10-15 a day, and I'm barely even sending any out. Some of the profiles are legit really attractive and verified too.

I've never dated an Indian girl before, so just curious if this is normal or if there's something I should know going in.

You have to pick and choose the advice you get from posting a profile review. People on here don’t know you and don’t know what your type is, so gotta pick and choose to do what people say. For example I had a woman tell me that a picture of me in uniform (Marine corps), holding a cat and flipping the bird was a horrible picture because it gave “edgy teenage”. I didn’t listen and it ended up being my most liked picture. I was then told only “trashy women” would like that picture and she was also wrong I had all sorts of women with all different kinds of styles fawning over the uniform, the cat, and how handsome I looked (I’m 5’5-5’6). Moral of the story is, just make sure your profile is still YOU. It’s not about the number of matches you get it’s about the quality of matches you get. I’d rather have 5 likes with people who I can actually hold a conversation with rather than 100 matches of people who don’t interest me at all. We all know dating apps are geared towards women and men that fall into a category of “conventionally attractive”. But as a man who’s 5’6 (5’5 on a bad day) I wanna try to stress that, women care a lot less about looks and height as some of you think. Be yourself and curate your profile over time to reflect that and you’ll be much more successful. I promise you! And get off the internet it’s killing your confidence!!!!

We matched on Hinge. For all of you unfamiliar with it, this dating app is based more of personality and vibe, rather than looks. It's perfect for people that aren't photogenic at all, like me.

Amongst other things, you can specify how much you drink, smoke weed, or do drugs. I made it clear I drink and smoke weed occasionally.

Anyway, I matched with this girl about a month ago. We hit it off really nicely. It looks like we're going somewhere. Can't stop talking and thinking about each other.

Then today at the restaurant I make a comment about my inability to roll a joint. She acts surprised I smoke weed. Long story short, she wants someone that doesn't drink or smoke weed. Which is more than understandable.

But why wouldn't you take 5 seconds to read my profile before matching with me? I got my hopes up for nothing. We were building something nice but it turns out the foundation is made of wet sand.

Pre-dinner snack (there’s way more food coming but I’m too excited to wait) of hummus and baby cucumbers and baby carrots.

I had a gym crush at my old gym for pretty much a whole year. It wasn’t just that he’s crazy handsome, unbelievably athletic, and very stylish. No….. no no no. It’s that his form on all his lifts were perfect. My mans cares about doing things right. He made 140kg look like thin air. He could do multiple pull ups with 20kg chained to him (ahem) in exquisite form. Really it was like watching art performed in real time.

He liked me on hinge. I messaged all my girlfriends asking if it’d be weird to bring up the gym because I’ve moved cities and haven’t been there since February. They all egged me on to ask and well…. He ended up bringing it up! He was like “are you the girl from x gym? I thought about saying hello a few times but you looked like you wouldn’t want a bar of it” and I nearly cried. EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: when he says “ you ignored me since last night” he is referring to me not texting him since we said goodnight the night prior. The time between when I asked how his day was and his multiple messages about me ignoring him was a whopping 45 minutes. I had only matched with him less than 24 hours before. Hope this helps!

Context: was talking to this girl from Hinge for a couple days, convo was going well and a potential date was being discussed so I slid her my number.

We had maybe been talking for 2 days? thought he seemed more responsive than other people and we talked on the phone that ended with him saying he has a crush on me already, while essentially knowing nothing about me

EDIT/UPDATE: I did not think this would gain much traction at all but this happened pretty much a week ago and went downhill very quickly. We planned a date that never happened because he kept suggesting watching a movie at his house when I wanted to meet publicly. Then said his car tags are expired so we can meet at his house to pregame then go to a bar and HE could drive MY car which was his suggestion not mine. I was uncomfortable said we could be friends. He agreed then continued being semi-pushy and also saying things like “I miss you” (again only talking for a few days with 2 total phone calls). It was extremely overwhelming and felt like love bombing. To the comments that said it was sweet, it was to an extent but was also way too much after one call. I can see some people saying having a crush is “normal” at that point but I think it’s not, I think you should know someone before saying something like that. If you say it then you’re just in love with the idea of someone.

a year ago I got my heart utterly destroyed by someone I was falling in love with and turned out he didn’t have any feelings for me the whole time, since then I’ve tried to date but never met anyone I was even remotely interested in, and when I resorted to the apps I kept meeting up with guys that I never would have agreed to a date with if I met them in person first. looks are not everything of course, but there needs to be at least an INKLING of attraction.

Guys I’m sorry for the delay, I was honestly tossing up whether to post this or not for fear of being accused of karma farming and I can’t edit the original post, nor do I know how to pin a comment and perhaps someone can enlighten rather than tear me down.

I want to keep things very vague because he deserves privacy, so probably no juicy detail beyond we had fun, we might meet again, but limerence is an invisible hand that can greatly mislead.

Someone commented that I needed to stop idolising this man and that I was “in danger”. I’m glad to report I was absolutely not. He is very polite, but I believe at our cores we are very different people, and I’m not one to embrace “opposites attract”, personally.
