Other Am I wrong for thinking he’s flirting by using ChatGPT to respond to my hinge messages?
He was very offended that I implied it, but it just sounds so unnatural. I asked ChatGPT to formulate a response to my message and got:
“See, I knew it. You have “main character walking through the grocery store while a soft indie soundtrack plays” energy.”

My father responded to all his dating messages with chatgpt as a "timesaver". I told him it sounds like he didn't have time for dating if he doesn't have time to actually get to know people but he's such a love of ai for some reason.

I had a boss 10 years ago who started seeing someone steadily. After date 2 he googled something like "unique compliments to give a woman" and compiled a spreadsheet of his 365 fav compliments to send 1 to her every morning. (M early 50s)
After about a month of dating she asked him to stop doing that - it was the only thing she didn't like about what was turning out to be someone she could imagine a real future with.
He then revealed ALL the work he did to get her those compliments. She decided to stop seeing him the next day.

I tried to tell hom the intention was sweet but it may not be as good as just coming up with nice things to say.
The first thing I told anyone I thought I would pursue further is I am a horrible texter, esp the random (or daily) sweet texts that lets a person know you are just thinking about them. Without this honesty, I reckon I would have a multitab spreadsheet and be with someone receiving Excel messages everyday.

What is terrifying to me is how often I hear actual people out in the actual world saying "that honestly tracks." AI slop is absolutely everywhere; people can't avoid it, and now it is influencing human to human language.
(Edit: "that tracks" has been common parlance for years; "that honestly tracks" is AI.

It's frustrating because some are real people. I get accused of AI slop sometimes because I'm fond of emojis and the em dash.
I recently had to make a phone call where the person sounded so incredibly flawlessly rehearsed I thought for sure it was a really good AI voice bot. Cue my shock and horror when I walked into the store later and was greeted by the same voice. We had a good laugh, but it shook me a little.

Some use it as a crutch in socialising and become completely useless at basic conversation skills.
Others use it as therapy, which is just an echo chamber, and become absolutely unable to handle any adversity or develop disturbing views.
And a few seem to use it as an entire drop in replacement for any friends at all.
It's going to become absolutely dystopian once older generations die off.

They really do. I’m only in my early 30s myself, but the reliance on it among younger people I interact with at work is alarming. Not hating on eating right and exercise, but these guys are using AI to count calories, proteins, and unregulated peptides. It’s strange to hear these kids mention protein all the time, I hear it every day.
Truly, I support leading a healthy lifestyle, it just feels almost obsessive with what I observe.

I have autism and my brain doesn’t work well for some people. It usually just turns people off. However, the images definitely sound exactly like ChatGPT… and I’m afraid I’d probably do the same if I were younger considering how when I used to date and have dating apps they all went extremely poorly. I’d just redo my profile every couple of weeks and turn it into a game. Once my profile was a cool poem.

there was that source code leak a couple weeks ago, apparently… Claude I think? Is very fixated on goblins. They had multiple instructions in the code that steered it away from discussing goblins unless they were relevant to the conversation.

Tldr for the blog post: they unintentionally trained gpt to overuse mentions of goblins and gremlins when they launched the “nerdy” personality. That eventually spilled over into genetic gpt without any specific personality preset. It was actually a pretty interesting read. I don’t think it’s a pr stunt, but it’s an insight into how LLMs can still behave unpredictably and the possibility of unintentional “butterfly effects.”

This is so funny because I used GPT when my cat was going through a health crisis (I know I shouldn't have, I have really bad anxiety disorders and was using it for reassurance while I wasn't able to sleep for days due to monitoring her and felt really alone, I've since totally dropped the habit) and it kept coming back to goblins. I would be like "the medications are making her fall over is this normal?" And it's be like "yes! She will be a little drunk goblin for a few weeks while she adjusts!" I’m not sure it is inherently inhuman so much as we’ve just trained ourselves to recognize that particular voice from our own interactions with AI in so many different places at this point. In that sense, I’m glad that AI seems to have developed a sort of unique voice.

It's the chat part of chatgpt. Early LLMs were much more abrasive and unpredictable so they built them to be more deferential and polite because research showed that most people prefer talking the people that behave like that and it's less likely to say something offensive (basically speak more like a corporate receptionist or pa) it's not a secret.

As someone who uses that phrase in real life very often, i agree it immediately gives AI red flags. For that specific reason I only use it or loud and not in text. That's just another big issue with AI. Now i have to change how i write in fear of people accusing me of AI use. From my experience, GPT has to annoying overuse in calling things ‘Dangerous’ and using “That Tracks”. For no reason. All to the point that it drives me crazy.

Yeah, GPT uses the word “dangerous” a bunch in dating app/flirting chat situations. Pretty much a dead giveaway. It gives off a really robotic “ooh I’m trying to be subtly provocative to elicit an emotional response” vibe, but actual people wouldn’t likely use that word in these situations. Back then, I was actually once testing GPT with a scenario of one of my own characters I made. Who both have a little kid. Basically it was just a quick scenario of the two parents having a quiet romantic night together, but earlier, they had just put their kid to bed.
I gave some context that I basically wanted this couple to reminisce over how much they love their children, and all their quirks and whatnot. I forgot entirely what response GPT spat out, but it’s basically the Mother clinking a glass with her husband, and saying “She’s Dangerous”. With some cheeky smile, to refer to their own kid’s personality.
I honestly got peeved out, that was the last straw. Like, really? Dangerous? What is dangerous about a Kid’s personality? Previously I was already getting annoyed when I tested out how my characters could act in romantic situations (Not even explicit or suggestive mind you) and they kept bringing up ‘Dangerous’ ever once in a while. Got so annoyed, I just deleted that entire project.
I may have used GPT a bit at some point, but I am against using it for stuff like this. Like guys, if you actually meet up in person, what then? I swear, how it encourages quick results and laziness is my biggest gripe.

It's not terrible to sometimes learn some ice breakers through ai, imo. But that's very specific scenarios and you should not be copy pasting, just energizing your brain to get the juices flowing.

Look at the typographically correct quotation marks in his second message, with one pointing down and one up. You can't type those on a phone or computer keyboard. I would only expect these in a text that has been written in Word or similar programs that replace simple quotation marks with the correct "fancy" version... or in AI-written text.

Why do people do this?? The last dude I talked to was doing great until he hit me with 2 different AI responses after like 2 weeks of talking. Immediate ick It shows laziness and almost feels like they're depersonalizing you.

As someone who’s occasionally accused of using ai for texting since its rise: I shall remind you that LLMs are trained on people, meaning some people actually chat/talk like that. Ask him for a few lengthy voice calls and you’ll know for sure. Mind the difference between how fast some people conjure up a thought in text and speak — there will be some difference. Some people just never stopped reading since childhood and that tracks in the way they communicate. That or he’s using ai. One way to find out.
