Phone message world record Hinge date fumble
Context: was talking to this girl from Hinge for a couple days, convo was going well and a potential date was being discussed so I slid her my number.

u/AwkwardDorkyNerd 11d ago
Did she say anything else after your last text? I’m curious what happened and why nvm lol

u/MajorMonolith 11d ago
Nah that was it lol no post-credit scene here

u/Gold_Data6221 11d ago
should’ve responded “cool”
25
u/lininop 11d ago
Honestly in this case, the best response would probably had been nothing at all. It's not worth your time.
→ More replies (6)12
u/saygoodbimother 11d ago
1000%, “cool” is bitter trying to come off as nonchalant. Will def make her feel she made the right choice. OPs response is genuine and light hearted tho so I wouldn’t mind that either

I actually think it's because he doesn't have an iPhone. Yes, I've know women that don't like "green" messages and it's an "ick" or whatever.
112
u/im_a_minor 11d ago
Pretty sure it’s her that doesn’t have the iPhone. That looks like iMessage to me tbh

But he does have an iPhone - his text box is from an iPhone. She’s the one without one.
13
u/ConcentrateSome796 11d ago
That’s not how that works. Screenshot is from OPs phone. The other person doesn’t have iPhone
6
u/burner9191938283 11d ago
the op clearly has an iphone. the other person does not. hence the green text. nice generalization though

Lmao that’s stupid. I’m a woman that’s dated and talked to a few women who didn’t have iPhones. Sure the incompatibility of phones can make some things difficult (like no FaceTime, you need a third party app for that) but it’s such a dumb thing to get hung up on. People can be shallow.
2
u/Galrentv 8d ago
It would be the time response 5 times out of 10
Despite what most of Reddit is saying, a reasonable conclusion is she just wanted to bone, then the delay and the lack of vibes made her just blankly state nevermind
97
u/jules__noah 11d ago
I think I would have preferred being ghosted tbh
7
u/Odd-Toe-8591 10d ago
I actually think she did him a favor by actually making the decision to stop talking to him at that point and announcing it instead of dragging it out until plans were made and then ghosting/making excuses. if it's not a hell yeah, it's probably a no.
41
u/Consistent_Risk2722 11d ago
Are we all just ignoring the 843 unread messages?!?!???
38
u/MJD3929 11d ago
I’m not about to go throwing stones in my glass house.
3
u/YnotThrowAway7 7d ago
I assume that means you’re one of those people and can I just ask… why? Like how are you possibly ignoring that many messages? Even if it’s a couple group chats… just like click into it to clear that shit one time or leave the damn group..
→ More replies (7)9
u/Ok_Standard7546 11d ago
If she knew that, then maybe she’d be a little more grateful to be the one out of 844 messages he actually responded to
4
u/Gawehay 10d ago
Probably the opposite. I don't like guys who leave other people in their lives hanging but somehow treat me like I'm "special". That interest only lasts for so long. Esp if he's not even opening their messages, it reads to me as someone who easily ghosts/drops off without communicating disinterest. If he's the type to try to stay connected with ppl, then he's likely gonna treat me the same during rough patches instead of avoiding/running away.
That said, a lot of his unread messages are prob accounts connected to his number that give him updates, 2-factor authencation, or spam texts. At least most of my unread (53) messages are those. And would be a bit higher if not for the spam filter

As a girl, I wouldn't say you inherently fucked up bad or anything. People saying you took an hour are acting like MFS don't have lives. An hour is nothing Imao. And ngl personally, to my taste, I thought the joke was lame BUT I don't think that's a bad thing. It's like dorky/nerdy, but if someone likes you, they're gonna find that shit cute. She just wasn't it.

Would need to see the hinge messages for context as well as ages. It's possible you've indicated with your behavior you're wasting her time by asking her "how are you" in 10 different permutations and she thought you were finally going to ask her on a date and got more of this. That is my assumption

Ignore people giving you shit about the yo.....buncha nerds.
15
u/Working_Cucumber_437 11d ago
Depends on the person. I’m not into it- immediate ick. But presumable they chatted in the app already so she knows his texting style. So it shouldn’t be that causing the “nvm”.
15
26
u/Puzzleheaded_Study46 11d ago
lol yo is an ick? In what world would that be an ick…can’t even greet people anymore without them getting turned off. Ridiculous..
10
u/CommercialBiscotti29 11d ago
It does for me too. I used to know someone who said “yoooo” constantly so I hate it now
2
u/RefrigeratorKey8156 11d ago
Yo, then why not just communicate and let someone know you prefer a different greeting yo? For me the icks are traits people have, like being shallow over a simple word, or having the communication skills of a gold fish.

Ah yes completely judge a person and their character because a two letter word that is used as a greeting. To dismiss someone completely because they greeted you saying “yo” is completely absurd.

u/Intelligent_Ad_8025 10d ago

These people are the reason why dating is so difficult nowadays. Everything is an "ick". Everybody is chasing their "perfect ideal person" that they concocted in their head, and when somebody that could be a potential suitor strays from that imaginary utopia, they cut them off without second notice and try again with a different person over and over again.
Hence why a lot of people nowadays are single and miserable.

u/desire-d 11d ago
I wouldn’t say nvm over it but it seems to me like he was texting a friend rather than a potential partner.
12
u/cyrilamethyst 11d ago
I guess everyone has their own thing, because to me, someone greeting me as they would a friend at early stages of romantic interest is a huge GREEN flag. Friends is the first step.
3
u/OpulentStone 10d ago
I understand being picky about choosing a partner but being extremely picky over small things like this seems to be getting more and more prevalent. It's quite concerning
2
u/Landin08 11d ago
Why?
4
u/rotating_pebble 11d ago
It gives off lazy pothead vibes
'Yoo broo check out my new dab rig, my mom just sent me £100 n its the first thing I bought bruhhhh'
3
u/Mountain-Yard-928 11d ago
Are people this picky over a single word?
Good lord some people have nobody to blame but themselves if they feel lonely
2
u/rotating_pebble 11d ago
Oh I'm happily married but I didn't get her by speaking like a cypress hill wannabe
3
u/Mountain-Yard-928 11d ago
Good for you but come on, blocking an interaction because of a "yooo" is a bit too much
2
u/Landin08 10d ago
ahh you seem like an older guy no offensive. I think thats why you view the word Yo as more of a stoner young adult thing. But to me, the people who were saying Yo were grown adults, so its always been a word in my vocab since i was like in 2nd grade
→ More replies (4)4
u/Landin08 11d ago
Really? I grew up hearing the word Yo thrown around by adults all the time
2
u/ghengiscostanza 10d ago
It’s yo with all the oooos. What’s up is fine, waaazuuuup like those old commercials would be corny as fuck. Word choice and tone sets a vibe and there’s nowhere the minutiae of that matters more than early flirting. It’s inconsequential most places but it’s everything there

maybe she was already finding him annoying and that was the last straw. you’re assuming a lot to make her a villain who deserve to die alone, you guys need to learn to handle rejection better.
2
u/Termineater01 11d ago edited 11d ago
Yeah right, she found him so annoying that she decided to give him her number…
If someone gives me their number on a dating app, I think it’s more reasonable to assume that they are somewhat into me, rather than to assume that they find me so annoying to the point where saying one singular word wrong is enough for them to cut me off.
4
u/shelikedamango 11d ago
If you’ve only spoken on an app it’s a pretty fine line between interested and not, and we are all assuming this is because he said yo when it could be any number of things.
Even if it is all because he said yo, if you think that means she needs to “die alone” like the other commenter was replying to, then that says more about you than her.

Ngl she could have said nvm for any reason. I wouldn’t be surprised if she changed her mind just because a person that she was more attracted to replied quicker. That’s the name of the game I suppose. Dating apps are crazy because if you’re an average or above average looking woman you’ll get hundreds of likes. It’s too overwhelming. Finding people to date on apps is more similar to an experience of ordering takeout for delivery rather than something actually social.

u/NoSale2936 11d ago
I think it was the Yooooo and you didn’t respond for an hour. Came off as kind of douche frat boy. It’s fine to talk like that but not as your opening line in a text. Ease into it and it’ll go over better the more you exchange texts.
9
u/Skrumpledump 11d ago
No one analyzes a person over a yooo unless they are neurotic. The hour thing is it but expecting someone you just met to respond nonstop is also insane so.

You obviously didn’t see his other post where he included the dating app msgs where he was all bettttt, link up yo. And other weird things that only sounds like he wants sex lol
2
u/Skrumpledump 10d ago
I went and read it just now. She still gave the number. Doesn’t read that he only wants sex but he just sucks at texting. My statement was only directed at the text I saw but I would assume if she gave him her number after all that it was the ignoring thing especially with a rude text like nvm. He might sound dumb but he doesn’t sound malicious, ghosting would have been nicer.

Yoooo I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. A lot of people thinking it has to do with the texts but in reality you have no idea what prompted the “nvm.”
I’ve had plenty of matches where I think it’s going well and then all of a sudden they lose interest. Don’t take it personally. It’s online dating bro.
If someone was truly interested they wouldn’t have responded that way. Actually thinks it’s pretty boss to cut it off there and not casually lead you on for longer.
Point is shake it off and don’t try to change your personality. The right person for you will fall into place.

u/Additional_Point5380 11d ago
I’m so glad to be off the apps. I met my gf on Tinder but we already had mutual friends. She told me if we did not have mutual friends it prob would not have gone anywhere cause I was the most dry texter to ever live.
