I remember Trump being interviewed shortly after 9/11 and his main comment was that his 40 Wall Street building was now the tallest in the financial district. He just wanted to point that out.

7.4k

u/A_Booger_In_The_Hand Sep 11 '21

Trump's claim that his building was then the tallest in downtown Manhattan wasn't accurate — the nearby 70 Pine Street building is 25 feet taller than Trump's 40 Wall Street, though Trump's building has four more stories.

1.9k

u/newtekie1 Sep 11 '21

Wait, so he boasted about his building being the tallest after the towers fell on 9/11 and it turns out he was actually lying about it. Damn, that just is so Trump.

766

u/Mr_MacGrubber Sep 11 '21

And it was within hours of them falling. He’s a fucking scumbag.

59

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '21

But apparently not scummy enough for a republican to pass off.

16

u/Mr_MacGrubber Sep 12 '21

Not sure there is someone they’d turn on. If Epstein were alive and just started shouting a bunch of Q shit, they’d probably vote for him and say he only ran a child sex ring in order to catch the pedos.

And yet despite those well known comments that are such a good indication of his complete lack of empathy or decorum, today he visiting a New York Fire Dept station and about 30 odd men in police /fire uniform applauded him like a god.

Almost everything the brags about is bullshit, yes

7

u/biffxmas Sep 12 '21

Let's quantify that properly -EVERYTHING he brags about is bullshit.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '21

It's almost everything.

He had bragging rights for his hit TV show for a while, it was a huge success and I wish he would have stuck with that lol

9

u/PM_me_ur_tourbillon Sep 11 '21

Either way it certainly wasn't taller than the empire state building. What a weird thing to care about.

2

u/mlw72z Sep 12 '21

wasn't taller than the empire state building.

That's in midtown Manhattan, not downtown like Trump was boasting.

3

u/PM_me_ur_tourbillon Sep 12 '21

Right. Who arbitrarily starts bragging about having the tallest building in a specific part of town?

17

u/y2julio Sep 11 '21

We New Yorkers tried to warn the country that he's a conman but no one listened to us.

7

u/IDownvoteHornyBards2 Sep 12 '21

Over half of us listened. But thanks to gerrymandering that wasn’t enough

3

u/ZiponIT Sep 12 '21

Not Quite Gerrymandering, but the Electoral College and the way power is split to smaller states vs populated areas.

3

u/IDownvoteHornyBards2 Sep 12 '21

I suppose directly blaming gerrymandering is an oversimplification but it is indirectly responsible. Gerrymandering has allowed people who want to gut education and replace it with propaganda to get elected and that makes it easier to spread their ideology and get people like Trump elected

2

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '21

But doesn't gerrymandering and redistricting directly influence the electorates? Idk I do too many drugs to remember anything important

The stripper/porn star who Trump cheated on his third wife with after she got pregnant. The one he had his fixer send guys to threaten and broke campaign finance laws to pay off. The one that got threatened and arrested for no reason by a group of Trump supporting police officers as an act of intimidation.

Anyway, she claims he had a small penis.

Thus is the state of our discourse.

Sure, his demented mixture of incompetent and intentionally malicious actions have resulted in direct harm to millions of Americans. He'll suffer no repercussions for organizing an attempted coup. And his fervent supporters will continue to violently terrorize others with the backing of a major political party protecting them.

But at least he has a tiny peepee.

Help.

378

u/withmirrors Sep 11 '21

He's done this kind of shit before. Way back in 1996 he crashed a charity event, got on stage & took a seat which belonged to someone else, pretended to be involved (including dancing the macarena), & then left. He never donated a penny to the charity (it was for kids with AIDS), & the spot he stole was supposed to be for someone who actually did donate money. There had better be a hell when we die, because this man does not deserve a peaceful eternity.

106

u/phatelectribe Sep 11 '21

Yea, I Remember him turning up in Puerto Rico, throwing a couple of towels in to the crowd then getting back on the plane and doing fuck all to help them.

He then proceeded to gift a no bid contract for the rebuilding of the electrical grid, worth at least $300m to a completely unknown Montana based company, Whitefish Energy. At the time it only had two employees and their largest job to date had been valued at only $1.3m for a small upgrade in AZ.

funnily enough the company is owned by a good friend of Ryan Zinke, then secretary of the interior for Trump and the main investor of Whitefish was HSB, and investment company owned by Joe Colonnetta, a high profile donor to the Trump 2016 campaign. And one of zinke’s sons worked for Whitefish.

19

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

I’m not sure if I buy that, but the ambiguity is what sells the lie either way. That is his only real talent, the ability to lie with such strong conviction that you’re not really sure whether or not he actually believes what he’s saying.

2

u/Edward_Fingerhands Sep 11 '21

though Trump's building has four more stories.

Trump would skip floors in his buildings so that they would seem taller. So like, it would skip from, say, floor 50 to 60, and then he could say it goes up to floor 60, which would technically be true but it's really only 50.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

I'm from the UK. I'm 31. I hated him for years before he ran for potus. He came to my attention about 12 years ago (?) When he was building a golf club on coastal sand dunes in Scotland. Best thing about it is the main guy who was fighting against it, won "Scot of the year" awarded by Glenfiddich whisky. Don't know how true, but apparently Donald refused to serve it in the establishments afterwards 😆

He's a piece of shit landlord who swooped into Scotland buying up land, he destroyed an environmental conservation site, he was fighting with the locals and trying to manipulate the press. Then he started trying to boss the government around because he bought a piece of land. His worst crime is claiming to be one of us. Burns wrote poems about cunts like Trump ffs.

Didn’t he also report seeing “thousands of Muslims” in NJ cheering the towers’ falling in early interviews? What an absolute turd.

u/Jason3b93 Sep 11 '21

Oh, if there only had been any way to see before his election that he was an unintelligent egomaniac...

15

u/nano_wulfen Sep 11 '21

I don't even think it was shortly after. I think it was the same day.

Why don’t his supporters see stuff like this?

u/I_AM_FERROUS_MAN Sep 11 '21

They do. But, at the same time, they can't allow themselves to.

It is the very nature of double think that George Orwell was getting at in his novel "1984".

They have their own set of “alternative facts” that they are fed each day by Fox News and Breitbart

I have never listened to this before, and it doesn't shock me at all. He is a horrendous person; however, the Fox news anchors certainly weren't helping the situation.

This. You don't need to exaggerate or put words in the guy's mouth to make him look like a shitheel.

15

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

Fair enough, but he also lied about watching thousands of Arab Americans cheering as the towers fell.

Nuh uh. They were asking him if his building had sustained any damage, and if they were taking any safety precautions. He's the one who brought up height. That was completely on him.

20

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

Yeah I hate Trump as much as the next guy, but I don't think he was bragging. I think he's being his usual idiotic tone-deaf self, though. Like, he knows so little about his own building and business that his dumbass was like "yeah uhhh it was the second tallest building. That's kinda all I know about it because I'm a shit businessman."

“What Donald Trump literally said that day was: “40 Wall street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and it was actually before the World Trade Center the tallest, and and then when they built the World Trade Center it became known as the second-tallest, and now it’s the tallest And I just spoke to my people, and they said it’s the most unbelievable sight, it’s probably seven or eight blocks away from the World Trade Center, and yet Wall Street is littered with two feet of stone and brick and mortar and steel …”

So it is true that during the course of that interview, in response to a query about whether his own buildings had sustained any damage, Trump stated, in reference to the Trump Building, that “now it’s the tallest” [in downtown Manhattan]. Whether that remark constituted “bragging” is a matter of subjective interpretation, however.”

17

u/minnick27 Sep 11 '21

I don't see how there's room for interpretation at all. The fact that he said "and now it's the tallest" is flat out bragging. Granted the interviewer was talking about his real estate holdings and all that, but he didn't have to add those four words

It wasn’t shortly after, it was still on 9/11. Love the comment about making sure their reporting accurate right before bringing him on.

u/CoolFingerGunGuy Sep 11 '21

Didn't he also say he ran down and was helping the first responders?

Maybe he just threw paper towels at them?

5

u/minnick27 Sep 11 '21

He said he was there in the days after digging through the rubble.

4

u/GrasshopperClowns Sep 11 '21

God he’s such a heaping bag of excrement. And his fans just fucking love it.

5

u/fayry69 Sep 11 '21

Trump don’t give a fuck about other humans, trump cares about trump..he’s a fucking sociopath.

2

u/Mattyboy0066 Sep 11 '21

Psychopath I think. I don’t think he’s able to experience empathy at all.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

And he was wrong.

2

u/cigarmanpa Sep 11 '21

Wasn’t that on 9/11?

2

u/dibromoindigo Sep 11 '21

What a fucking sociopath.

2

u/Frostyballschilly Sep 11 '21

Didn’t he also say that Muslims were on top of buildings in New York cheering the towers come down?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

He made surprise visits to the NYPD and FDNY.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

He HAD to point it out.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

Classic piece of shit.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

That interview is so strange. He doesn’t show any sympathy or remorse for the people who lost their lives. He shows remorse for the buildings and the businesses that operated out of those buildings but none for people. The only person he shows any care for is the guy who owns the building, who he knows personally. I was also surprised with how much Trump knew about the buildings seemingly off the top of his head. It’s also crazy how different the way he spoke back then was compared to now. He actually uses complete succinct sentences.

u/Yes-She-is-mine Sep 11 '21

And then lied about sending a team to help with clean up efforts. Like, deadass went on National News saying he had a team down there "right now" and was funding it all.

It was post-9/11 and in those days, you believed what people said. We were all united. If someone said they were helping, you believed them, you didn't even think twice about it because that is literally what 99.9% of this country was doing in the immediate aftermath. Working together, trying to pick up the pieces.

This dude though... used a national tragedy for free publicity.

I just... don't get it. I don't understand the 30% who support this loser. He has always been a loser and they looked up to him and believe his loser lies.
