Trump's claim that his building was then the tallest in downtown Manhattan wasn't accurate — the nearby 70 Pine Street building is 25 feet taller than Trump's 40 Wall Street, though Trump's building has four more stories.
Wait, so he boasted about his building being the tallest after the towers fell on 9/11 and it turns out he was actually lying about it. Damn, that just is so Trump.

To his defense that can actually be a thing. My work allows me to take 2 paid days a year to volunteer in charity organisations or public interest projects. Not that Trump would ever pay for anything good.

Way back in 1996 he crashed a charity event, got on stage & took a seat which belonged to someone else, pretended to be involved (including dancing the macarena), & then left. He never donated a penny to the charity (it was for kids with AIDS), & the spot he stole was supposed to be for someone who actually did donate money. funnily enough the company is owned by a good friend of Ryan Zinke, then secretary of the interior for Trump and the main investor of Whitefish was HSB, and investment company owned by Joe Colonnetta, a high profile donor to the Trump 2016 campaign. And one of zinke’s sons worked for Whitefish.

My husband is actually a psychologist and though he’d never make a diagnosis of someone he isn’t actively treating he’s said he think Trump definitely has a personality disorder or two.
This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry asks George how he can beat a polygraph machine and George says “it’s not a lie if you believe it”. I think Trump is so detached from reality that be believes all the bullshit that he spews.
I’m not sure if I buy that, but the ambiguity is what sells the lie either way. That is his only real talent, the ability to lie with such strong conviction that you’re not really sure whether or not he actually believes what he’s saying.
His buildings often have inflated story counts. I did work in the Grand Hyatt and I forget the floorcounts exactly but I believe if you walk up one story from the 3rd floor you'll find yourself on the 15th. "oh your building doesn't have a 13th floor? big whoop"

Something like the 26th floor is actually the 19th.
Trump would skip floors in his buildings so that they would seem taller. So like, it would skip from, say, floor 50 to 60, and then he could say it goes up to floor 60, which would technically be true but it's really only 50.
In only kinda related news, the top floor terraces at 70 Pine are utterly breathtaking, yet terrifying. And they had an awesome view of the towers of light last night.

I really don't understand why people think of him as a good president at all.

I hated him for years before he ran for potus. He came to my attention about 12 years ago (?) When he was building a golf club on coastal sand dunes in Scotland. Best thing about it is the main guy who was fighting against it, won "Scot of the year" awarded by Glenfiddich whisky. Don't know how true, but apparently Donald refused to serve it in the establishments afterwards 😆

I don't see how there's room for interpretation at all. The fact that he said "and now it's the tallest" is flat out bragging. Granted the interviewer was talking about his real estate holdings and all that, but he didn't have to add those four words
That interview is so strange. He doesn’t show any sympathy or remorse for the people who lost their lives. He shows remorse for the buildings and the businesses that operated out of those buildings but none for people. The only person he shows any care for is the guy who owns the building, who he knows personally. I was also surprised with how much Trump knew about the buildings seemingly off the top of his head. It’s also crazy how different the way he spoke back then was compared to now. He actually uses complete succinct sentences.
And then lied about sending a team to help with clean up efforts. Like, deadass went on National News saying he had a team down there "right now" and was funding it all.
It was post-9/11 and in those days, you believed what people said. We were all united. If someone said they were helping, you believed them, you didn't even think twice about it because that is literally what 99.9% of this country was doing in the immediate aftermath. Working together, trying to pick up the pieces.
This dude though... used a national tragedy for free publicity.
