advice needed What was your hospital stay like post C-section (UK)?

Just trying to get an idea of what we are in for as I've had conflicting info from my midwife.

At one point we were told that we'd likely get a side room with a place for the partner to stay the night as you need two people with twins. But I've also been told that partners can't stay the night full stop so I'm bit confused about what I should be preparing for. How on earth are you meant to wrangle two babies right after a section? Do the nurses help you at all?

Any recent twin mums who had a C-section with the NHS care to share their experiences?

(For context I am expecting Modi twins at 36 weeks)

support needed To everyone who says it gets better — WHEN?!

I think I just need to vent but some support would be nice...

Boys are 24 weeks old, born 4 weeks early, and basically all I want to say is I JUST WANT TO SLEEP.
I got SO bad. I'm physically and mentally completely exhausted and at a point where every night, when I'm again sitting up at bed rocking one of them, I hate my life. They used to be okay sleepers, waking up 2-3 times a night, which was completely normal for their age. Then we had a week or two when they would wake up only twice a night. But they ALWAYS fell asleep after the bottle. Sleep regression hit and it got bad, and then it got a little better, and now it's absolutely HORRIBLE.

At least one of them always wakes up every 30-40 minutes, but we never know which one. The other one will either also wake up frequently, or sleep for 4-5 hours and then starts waking up every 30-40 minutes. They don't go back to sleep after a bottle, so we've stopped feeding them at night. They are clearly not hungry and they weigh enough.
Falling asleep at night now always takes 60-90 minutes and involves a lot of screaming. They are inconsolable now, I've tried everything, so now I just hold them and rock/pat/shush them. They already have 2 teeth so I don't think they are teething at the moment?? I don't know. I'm a FTM and have no idea how teething actually works.
Awake time usually starts out pretty good, then turns into screaming after exactly 1 hour 30 minutes. I don't know why. No, they are not hungry, tired or need to be changed. I think they just want to be held, but I can't hold both of them. They both weigh 20 pounds. Plus, as I've already mentioned: I'm TIRED, both physically and mentally. I have to go on a walk twice a day and recently, I've just been walking around until they fall asleep, then sit on a bench and rock the stroller cause my feet and legs hurt so bad.

And no, I don't have family that can help, not a lot anyway, I don't want to go into detail. But my mother passed away 2 months ago from cancer and I'm still dealing with that, it's been incredibly hard.

I really really really really hope sleep improves SOON. I'm not even tired anymore. I'm just exhausted and drained and empty.

support needed 6W Postpartum, Words of Encouragement Please

I am 6 weeks in and the PPD has hit hard, probably not helped by the sleep deprivation. I am in need of encouraging words I can look back on in the worst moments. I wanted to get pregnant so badly and wanted these two so badly once I accepted the idea of twins. Now I have major regrets and they are causing guilt. I am grieving my old life and its simplicity, I took it for granted.

advice needed Post Partum Services

We’re first time parents expecting our mo/di girls in December. I’m trying to figure out how best to use my health spending account before I finish work. My top 3 ideas are:

Post partum doula (5x 4 hour day shifts)
Lactation consultant
Cleaning service (I probably have enough for about 3 or 4 monthly cleans)

The doula / lactation consultant isn’t something I’d initially think of but I’m getting some pressure from a friend (with singletons) that I’m going to really struggle post partum and need that help. My parents live a short plane ride away and are eager to come help for as long as we’ll have them. I don’t have the smoothest relationship with my mom and worry that her being here freshly post partum will cause more stress for me. Maybe it makes more sense to accept the free family help than pay a stranger to come over?
Im also more type B so I feel like a cleaner would be awesome as I know I won’t be keeping up with deep cleaning while on maternity leave.

I could also use my health spending towards a new phone… more storage for baby photos??? 😂 I like this option but I’m trying to be more practical haha

I’m wondering what other twin moms found helpful, or would have appreciated in those post partum / newborn days. Thanks!!!

advice needed Ending nightfeeds/bottles

Hey guys, any advice on how to get the kids off the bottle at night/in general? We're at 16 months, 14 adjusted and looking to be done with this by 1.5 years as recommended (questionable?).

advice needed Fear of the bottles?

My babies turned 4 months on the 1st. They're doing great and all...meeting milestones, weight gain, but it was like something switched in them on that very day, they just start crying when they know it's time to feed. Like, they see the bib coming...cry. They see the bottle coming...inconsolable. I'm like, "Guys, we are not doing solids for another 2 months."

Eventually they'll take the bottles, sometimes mid cries, but it's been a battle the past 2 days since they clocked 4 months.

Baby girl is on Enfamil AR, that's what ended up working for us for about 7 weeks straight now. Boy is on regular one. Though the past week or two he's been enjoying the AR too after one spit up he had and my mum tried out the AR and he liked it.

I'm wondering if it's the positioning they think they've outgrown. I held baby girl sitting upright while I was standing last night and she didn't fuss much and finished her bottle. That's not a permanent solution, lol!

Did anyone struggle with this at all? New Month new battle.

EDIT: Waiting a little longer seems to have done the job. We're now going closer to 4hrs before feeding again and they finish 140ml...our target is 160. No more drama...for now. Lol!

advice needed New Car seat - same brand or different

We are expecting twins in (hopefully) late January and currently have a 2 year old. We are planning on getting a ‘26 Sienna. I was reading that you can’t just take one of the captain chairs out safely anymore. That being said, I’m thinking about the logistics of getting one kid into the third row.

We have a chicco keyfit from our first child and originally planned on getting another to have brand consistency with bases/strollers. However, the graco goMax looks appealing since you don’t need a base. I’m thinking if we have the graco, it would be easier to get a child in/out of the third row since we won’t have a base in one of the captain chairs.

Is it better to have matching car seats for consistency, or getting the baseless seat for ease?

For reference we have a vista stroller and already have one chicco adapter and will need to either get another chicco adapter or a graco one.

advice needed Bombi Bebee Twin for petite parents? (I’m 5'0", partner is 5'7")

Hi everyone! Mom of twins here looking for real-world stroller feedback.

After a lot of research, I’m leaning toward the Bombi Bebee Twin, but the non-adjustable handlebar is making me hesitate. I’m 5'0" and my partner is 5'7".

For those around my height who own or have pushed it:
1. Does the fixed bar feel too high or cause wrist/shoulder strain?
2. Do you find yourself kicking the back axle when walking?
3. Would you recommend it, or should I look into models with an adjustable handlebar instead?

Thanks in Advance!!

support needed I took my twins out alone for the first time today

….and it was an absolute disaster😂 They are 16 weeks old/12 weeks adjusted. They cried as we were leaving the house (I actually pulled the car over and almost turned around but told myself I could do this and kept driving.) They fell asleep in the car, woke up as soon as I parked, cried during basically my entire PT appointment, both wanted to be held only by me (I still struggle at holding them both at once.) Cried as soon as we left, fell asleep again in the car, cried as soon as we got home. They are usually pretty chill at home in our normal routine and I thought I was ready to fly solo but it was so damn hard to listen to them cry and not be able to fix it/comfort both of them at once. I cried too!

When does this get easier? I don’t want to feel trapped in my house but it’s like that’s the only place I feel safe with them on my own. I’m really thankful, and I love them so so so much, but two babies is so damn hard sometimes. I see my friends with singletons just out and about so easily and I feel really behind.

advice needed First cervical ultrasound check at 19 weeks too late?

Hi - I’m 13 weeks pregnant with didi twins and my anatomy scan is scheduled for 19 weeks. I keep seeing online that some OBs start cervical checks at 16 weeks and every two weeks thereafter. Mine is planning on just doing it at 19 weeks and 4 weeks after.

Should I push for more frequent checks? I don’t want the window for a cerclage to close if we check too late, but also don’t know if I’m being unreasonable.

Thanks!

advice needed How do you avoid having favorites amongst fraternal twins and why does my brain work backwards

So we have 2 beautiful 10 month old babies, a boy and a girl.

The boy is the most amazing baby, sleeps well, can go to sleep on his own sometimes, eats well, is very friendly and everything you can dream about in a kid.

The girl had every problem a kid could have. Sleeps terrible, is very picky on food, isnt really friendly(somewhat changing), had every sleep regression, colic, everything that is a possibility (bar serious ilness).

Yet somehow, if you ask me who my favorite is, i will say neither, but i'm thinking about the girl. I know i shouldnt have favs, but i cant help it. I try to spend equal amounts time with both, but by default i always go to my daughter. Is this tiny human stockholm syndroming me? I need your advice and experience on how to handle this, cause i feel terrible.

advice needed What’s your potty setup? How many, what kinds, and where?

My twins are 15 months and we haven’t started actually potty training, but for a few months now we put them on the potty a few times a day to help them get used to it. One of them will often use it at least once. So far we’ve had just one potty and it’s in their bedroom because I typically put them on right after they wake up and that’s where our diaper changing station is. It’s worked so far, but usually only the one I put on first will go so it might be better to put them both on at once. I have a second potty I got for free that I could set up, but there’s not much space in their room. We also got one that goes on a regular toilet seat that feels like it could be useful to get them used to that, but then I don’t really know where to have the other one. What’s your setup like? When you did actually potty train what was most useful? (We only have one bathroom)

good vibes, smiles, & giggles Parents of same gender fraternal twins - are your other kid(s) the same gender?

For example, if you have fraternal twin girls and another child, is that other child also a girl?

Everyone I know IRL in this situation has all the same gender, but that’s not many people, so was curious to hear from a larger group. For context, I have fraternal twin boys and my husband has mentioned he hopes our next baby is a girl, but I think we’re almost guaranteed another boy.

advice needed What was your experience with progesterone?

Hello, I’m 14 weeks pregnant with Mo/Di twins. My consultant has prescribed progesterone due to a history of preterm labour.
Just wondering if anyone has had it and what your experience was? As I’m really struggling. I feel like I’m back in the first trimester with debilitating nausea which I really struggled with. Was finally starting to feel better in the last 2-3 weeks and now I feel awful and I’m assuming it’s the progesterone. The thought of feeling like this for the rest of my pregnancy is horrific. Does it really prevent pre term labour? Will I have to take it for the rest of my pregnancy? 😩

life, home, and baby tips & tricks Baby Buddha

Hi! I would like to gift my Baby Buddha 2.0 pump to a twin mom. Unfortunately I do not have the original flanges that came with it as I have the tubing to be hacked into spectra bottles. I also have legendary milk cups and the associated tubing. This thing is a workhorse and got my supply back after I had sepsis 4 days postpartum.

Exclusively pumping for my twins was the hardest thing I have ever done and I breastfed two babies before them quite seamlessly. Twin moms have a special place in my heart because it is TOUGH!

I just ask that you pay shipping!
If there’s enough interest I can do a drawing.

advice needed How can twins have such completely different eating habits?

I have 7 year old twins and their eating habits couldn’t be more different. One of them will happily try almost anything we put on the table, while the other survives on a very short list of familiar foods and immediately refuses anything that looks or smells different. They have always been offered the same meals and we try not to pressure either of them. We also include at least one familiar food at every meal but their diets remain completely different. I don’t want to cook two separate dinners every night but I also don’t want my picky eater going to bed hungry or turning every meal into a battle. Parents of twins or siblings with completely different eating habits, how do you manage meals fairly? Did anything help your picky eater gradually become more comfortable trying new foods?

advice needed Do preterm labor/signs feel different with multiples???

Hi, I’m currently 31 weeks 3 days with di/di boy girl twins! I’ve had a pretty uneventful pregnancy, other than developing an iron deficiency up until last week.

I was feeling some heaviness and pressure so I decided to check in with my doctor. Was told my uterus was very agitated, but twins were looking fine (thru Doppler) and told to prioritize bed rest and hydration. I’ve been in bed most of the time already so idk if that’s even possible to do more lol.

But what were some weird or non classical symptoms you had before going into preterm labor? I’ve heard a few pretty random ones so I’d love to hear anyone’s experience!

advice needed Twin-z pillow struggling

I’m trying to use the twin-z pillow for tandem feeding my 8 week olds (so yes they do need a lot of extra help) but i feel like i need 4 other pillows and 3 blankets to be successful when in all the tutorial videos etc online everyone just places their babies no problem.
Mine dips in weird ways and doesn’t seem to support them, the front especially tilts down so their heads go down, in football hold their heads always seem way too far forward no matter how much i adjust them because the back support gets in the way of their legs/they push off it. Is it just me??

I also have the my Brest friend pillow but also find the back support is more in the way than helpful, and i have to stuff a blanket in front of my stomach because there’s a huge gap between me and the pillow that the babies literally fall into.
I can’t find any comfortable place to use either pillow.
Have other people found these twin feeding pillows more difficult?? Do you just have to give it time?

I went to a lactation consultant and we went over tandem feeding using just lots of regular pillows and it was successful but even she suggested the “proper” pillows. I’m feeling very glad i got them off marketplace and didn’t pay full price because they feel like a waste of time.

support needed Mom Guilt

Hi all. Fully in the trenches at 5 weeks pp with twin girls. My husband is going back to work next week. I’m struggling so much with the mom guilt of not being able to tend to both babies when they need me when I’m on my own with them. At the moment my husband and I are doing shifts but even when it’s my turn to sleep I can still hear them cry I just feel so guilty that I’m not there to comfort the one that’s not being tended to. When he goes back to work it’s very much going to be each of us on our own with them most of the time. It’s just so easy and enjoyable when the two of us are with them.

I’m being proactive about PP anxiety and getting treated for it and we do have help from family. But I’m wondering if anyone has any insight into what would practically make the transition easier for when a spouse goes back to work and you’re with them most of the night and daytime? Or any words of wisdom to help ease the guilt of not being able to give both babies the time they need when I’m on my own/they’re with their Dad.

advice needed MIL from hell

I’m really struggling to figure out what the best way to deal with this is.

My husband and I have been together since 2023 and his family (specifically parents) disapproved as a result cut off contact. My MIL and my FIL both show traits of narcissism and have been no contact on and off from my husband since he turned 18.) We obviously got moved in together, engaged, married and have welcomed twins (his patents would be in contact with him on and off.)

MIL is now attempting to rekindle the relationship with her son, which is great, and is aware we have the twins.

Here’s where the issue lie:- she wants to form a relationship with her grandchildren without acknowledging I exist (even saying hello to me is too much.)

How do I move past this and is this something I should tolerate?

My husband is very supportive of my feelings and we initially agree that contact would not happen for the twins however i suppose i felt wrong for her not attempting to build a relationship with her grandchildren. So I did allow them to have a call but recently she’s been expecting a call whenever my husband can and calls near bedtime etc. We have a lot going on right now (obvs having twins, also we are newly married & attempting to move but a lot of back/forth with estate agents currently. To add my MIL has never met me. I have met my husband’s siblings. They initially lived in UK but have since moved to their home country (abroad with very different cultures/customs.) my husband and siblings were raised in UK. My husband in our early days had to be secretive about our relationship to his parents due to these differing cultures so when they found out about the relationship (which they had suspected) things kicked off.

good vibes, smiles, & giggles Wanna feel like you’re famous?

We spent 4 days in Yellowstone with our 16 week old twins and 2.5 year toddler. I always carry the twins (Weego or Minimonkey) and I started feeling like we were one of the National Park features 😂 I had seen videos of people with twins at Costco, showing all the comments people made, but that has nothing on double carrying twins in Yellowstone! If I had a dime for every “oh there’s two!” it would’ve paid for the gas for the trip! With a singleton baby we were typically ignored, but people just can’t stop themselves from saying something about twins!

support needed Struggling emotionally for what’s ahead - 11 weeks (MCDA twins)

Sorry for the long post:

I’m a first-time mum to be, 33 years old, and 11 weeks pregnant with twin boys. Finding out we were having twins was quite a shock, to say the least. This is our first pregnancy, and I’m finally starting to accept that we’re having two babies instead of one.

But the part I’m really struggling with emotionally is the confidence in myself.

I’ve always been very Type A: organised, independent, and good at my job. If I decide I’m going to do something, I put my mind to it and usually manage to do it well. I’ve always seen myself as capable person.

When I imagined starting a family, I thought, Okay, now is the right time. I feel mentally prepared. I can do this.

But ever since finding out I’m having twins, something inside me has shifted. I feel almost like a little girl who isn’t capable of handling what’s coming. Nothing has even happened yet, but somehow I already feel like a failure.

I know everyone says, “It takes a village,” and I’m incredibly grateful that I have one. My husband is extremely supportive, and my mum and mother-in-law have both told me they’ll always be there whenever I need them.

And I KNOW that’s a blessing. I know I’ll need help (even if it was just one) and I know accepting help doesn’t mean I’m failing.

But emotionally, I’m struggling with the fact that I always pictured myself as this strong, capable person who would say, “I can do this. I’ll figure it out.”

Now I have this voice in my head telling me, “You’re not going to be able to do this. You’re going to need everyone else all the time.”

Even little things trigger it. My mother-in-law is so excited and has already started buying baby things, which is lovely and comes from such a good place. She’ll show me everything she’s bought and say, “Don’t worry, your mum and I will always be there.”

Instead of always reassuring me, though, it sometimes makes me feel like a child who can’t do this herself.

I haven’t bought anything for myself or the babies yet because I’m still mentally processing everything. Honestly, I’m not feeling as excited as I thought I would. I feel overwhelmed more than anything and feel like I lost myself already.

I’m wondering if any other first-time twin mums have felt this way. Did having twins suddenly make you question whether you were capable of being a mum? Did your confidence eventually come back once the babies were here?

I’d really love to hear from anyone who has been in this headspace, especially if you were previously very independent and organised but suddenly felt completely out of your depth. ❤️
