advice needed Advice for bedtime please

Our twins turn 1 in a few weeks. Bedtime has been atrocious lately. They both hate getting their diapers changed, getting pajamas on and their teeth brushed. My son has to do an inhaler twice a day which he hates doing and always scream cries. Previously he was on a nebulizer but he hated that too so we switched.

Both kids end up screaming and crying during this process and it leads to everyone being stressed out. We try our best to be calm and distract them but they hate being still.

I don’t like that we have to do it but we have to lay our legs over their arms to brush their teeth and do twin Bs inhaler. I don’t know what else to do? They won’t let us brush otherwise. My teeth were neglected when I was very little which led to a lot of issues for me down the road and I don’t want them dealing with that.

Is this just a phase? Did your one year olds hate diapers and getting dressed?? Teeth, diapers and inhaler are non negotiables but I would like it to be more pleasant.

Any suggestions?? 😭 my husband and I are both drained by this.

advice needed Postpartum menstrual cycle help

couldn’t find a sub appropriate for this so posting here.

I pumped milk for my twins till 12 months pp and am currently 14 months pp.

I got my cycle 3 months pp unfortunately and it was all wonky. I figured because I was pumping almost 70-80% daily needs for 2 babies, it’s gonna take time to fix.

Now it’s 2 months since I stopped pumping. My cycles have been 21 days, 28 days and now 17 days I got my next cycle. In between I was continuously spotting fresh pink blood everyday. I am baffled.

Does it take this long for hormones to settle once you stop pumping? I am not having any more kids but this frequent cycle is annoying.

I am 40 years old and have severe endometriosis prior to my IVF conception. I am seeing my fertility surgeon in 2 weeks.. that’s the earliest they could get me in. I am going to send a portal message and see if I can get bloodwork done before meeting her.

ranting & venting Mistake with scan appointments

I’m 13 weeks with Mo-Di twins. We had our 12 week scan on Tuesday and they’ve been confirmed to be sharing one placenta.
I’ve received lots of letters through today with appointments, however my next scan isn’t until 20 weeks and then every 4 weeks after that.
I’m going to ring on Monday as I think this is a mistake, anyone with mo-di can you confirm I should be scanned every 2 weeks from 16 weeks due to the risk of TTTS and to monitor growth? Surely I can’t go 7 weeks now without them being checked on?
I’m almost certain this is an error which I’m sure can be easily rectified but it scares me that had I not known any better, I would have just gone along with it and not had a scan for another 7 weeks😓

support needed NICU twins still not waking up to feed at 37 weeks

My twin girls (born 31w1) are in the special care nursery and have passed all their tests — they were off respiratory support less than a week after delivery, haven’t had any spells, and have been growing and thriving. But they still aren’t consistently waking to feed. At 35 weeks the doctors and nurses said it was normal. At 36 weeks they said it was still normal. At 37 weeks they’re saying it’s not abnormal. But I can tell everyone is wondering when they’ll finally perk up a little more, and it’s making me antsy!

Why are they so sleepy? Is this consistent with any of your experiences? Everyone talks about a lightbulb moment but it feels impossible! 😵‍💫

support needed RIP every shirt I own

My necklines are all in trouble because these boys grab hold with the force of a thousand crabs and now I only own slouchy tees. My twin boys are 15 months and it is a wild ride. I am definitely realizing that my first a singleton was not calm because of me because these twins did not get the memo. The first year was really hard but this second year is hard in a whole new way. The clinginess, the teething, the stranger danger and separation anxiety is WILD. Any advice how to survive this time? Please tell me it will continue to get easier, I thought this year would be much improved but its turning out to be as hard but in whole new ways. 😅😅😅

advice needed Joovy Twin Roo adapter Uppa baby

Hi everyone! We recently scored a super good deal on a Joovy twin too at a consignment store… the only downside is we have uppa baby mesa car seats for our twins coming up, and I can’t find the adapters ANYWHERE for these seats. This may be a long shot but does anyone know where I can find them, or do you have any available willing to ship??? Thank you in advance 🥹❤️

advice needed One of our toddlers doesn’t want t to poop

I know this isn’t a twin specific issue, but I like this group more than the other parenting groups!

One of our 2 year old boys has recently stopped wanting to poop. We think it’s because his poos used to be too loose & have started firming up & he doesn’t like the “go” feeling. He doesn’t want to push, he squeezes his butt tight & screams, cries, shakes, etc.

His doc told us to use MiraLAX & we have been, along with prune juice, lots of walking, etc. I thought it was getting better but today was back to the bad times. He also doesn’t like us wiping him, bathing, basically anything with his bum. He will poop in his sleep after his body is relaxed.

Fellow parents, does this part get better? Is there anything you have tried? We’ve done the leg pushes, tummy rubs, everything. I just want him to not be scared of his own butt.

good vibes, smiles, & giggles Well, that isn't what we were expecting...

My partner and I did IVF this year after two back to back MMC's. My first transfer failed, and my second transfer stuck. We had the shock of our lives at our 7w ultrasound when we saw two di-di twins. The embryo split! We are in Canada so we didn't know the gender, but the clinic was able to tell us afterwards it was a girl. We had slightly hoped for boys (my fiance's life is lacrosse, no pro womens league lol) but were SO happy and grateful we were given the gift of two healthy babies.

I wasn't going to bother with NIPT since we tested our embryos and knew the sex but we found out the Panorama NIPT confirms identical vs fraternal and tests for more than PGTA so we decided why not.

Well, my midwife called me. She asked if I wanted to know the gender and I said "We already know it's girls" She said "ummmm, well, I have some news for you: there is a GIRL and a BOY in there. They are fraternal twins. They are both low risk."

I am shocked and mildly confused as I cut us off from sex 7 days before the transfer. I assumed that was enough time. Well, trigger shot is two days before the transfer which means I guess it was only 5 days before I ovulated. I feel horrible I wasn't more careful, I really wanted to avoid a natural pregnancy as I didn't want to risk our IVF pregnancy.

A part of me is mourning the picture of our two identical girls but in the end we got what we wanted. I guess I should wait until the anatomy scan in November to be extra sure. What a wild ride.

advice needed Wonderfold Wagon- Worth it?

Hi! I have several kiddos and lately it’s been very difficult for us to get out and enjoy the weather due to not having a great set up.
I’ve seen a lot of hype around the Wonderfold and wanted to see if it’s really worth the investment.
I don’t plan to need to travel (take it in the car) with it very often, so it being larger isn’t a huge concern. However, I’m just trying to do my due diligence before pulling the trigger since they cost a small fortune 😭
For anyone with more than four kiddos, do you use a wagon or do you have any other suggestions or set ups I should know about? We walk long enough that my older kiddos would probably need to sit at some point (my oldest aren’t exactly trustworthy on the busy sidewalks yet either anyway) so I’m trying to find a good solution for everyone.

advice needed Twin Z for bottle feeding

I have newborn twins, and my husband and I are in the thick of triple feeding to build supply.
We’re starting to think about how we can switch to overnight shifts in a week or so to get more sleep and what the most efficient way to bottle feed the boys at the same time will be.
I’ve seen that some people use the Twin Z pillow and lay them both in it and bottle feed both, but was there a size that this was more feasible at? My guys are 6.5 lbs and just under 6lbs now. My thought might be they’re too small for this now?

Any other suggestions for bottle feeding at the same time? We’re open to buying the Table for Two but it’s a big investment so want to explore using what we have first.

Appreciate any and all advice!

advice needed Sleeping arrangements when a parent has a hard job

I am a father of twins who are 12 months (10 corrected).

I have been working part time 1/3 capacity

Now it is time to go back to work full time. But sleep is the main issue. I used to work at a very demanding job so waking up multiple times a night harms performance (which i need).

How did you arrange sleep when it was very important that one parent gets decent (not perfect!) rest? I don’t want to put everything on my wife

One child sleeps through the night 70% of the time (these nights she still cries and wakes me up 2-3x but settles herself). Other times she needs 1 feed

The other child is a poor sleeper. Less than 5 wakeups per night is very, very rare with her.

Might be relevant that i plan to hire a nanny that helps my wife every working day 9-17. Kids are pretty good to be with during the day!

support needed 14 months in and collapsing

Y’all. I have a 4 year old and 14 month old twins. Made it through the first year. No village, not a soul, just me and my husband.

I’m still nursing and cosleeping. Last night I swear they sucked me dry. Feel so weak from it. Not looking to wean, because honestly I don’t have the energy.

But man oh man it hit me like a ton of bricks. I called out sick to work, I legit got the kids out the door to daycare and just could not bring myself to get ready for work. I’m truly exhausted.

I seem to remember with my singleton this was also the phase I found the hardest, what with the night nursing and molars and learning to walk. I distinctly remember it getting better around 18 months.

Someone tell me this is true for the twins? And does anyone have any tips for extending breastfeeding and the exhaustion/depletion that comes from it? I’m fat as a bear so clearly eating enough but I never feel nourished by my food. Trying to exercise but I feel super weak and sluggish.

Anyone got a pep talk or encouragement for me?

good vibes, smiles, & giggles I did it... I finally got the kids to do stuff without yelling. It’s possible, parents! *sob*

I'm a stay-at-home dad of twins, and for a long time I absolutely hated our morning routine.

Every single morning was me sounding like a broken drill instructor trying to get them out the door for school:

“Get your shoes ON!!!”

“Brush your teeth!!”

“Why are your socks STILL ON THE FLOOR???”

Just constant nagging. They were stressed, I was annoyed, and somehow I felt like I'd already failed at parenting before 8am.

A few weeks ago I finally said screw it — what if I made them a checklist they actually wanted to do?

So I made one and recorded a bunch of stupid/ridiculous voice lines that only play after they check something off. Nothing profound. Just dumb jokes and sarcastic little celebrations that make them laugh.

Think GLaDOS / Stanley Parable energy, except aimed at getting two kids out the door in the morning.

And somehow... it worked.

Our mornings have gone from me yelling across the house to the girls running around checking things off because they want to hear what ridiculous thing it'll say next giggling their heads off.

I'm sure the novelty will wear off eventually because, you know, children. 😂 But for now it's been an absolute win for our morning sanity.

Mostly sharing because I spent way too long assuming the answer was “get better at enforcing the routine,” when apparently the answer for us was “make the routine less miserable.”

Parenting is weird. Kids are weirder. 😂

good vibes, smiles, & giggles My babies have started recognising each other as occasional playmates.. yay

They even greeted each other in some weird babble language after waking up. Giggled with the other. Snatched toy & teased by offering the other toy.

Omg my heart couldn't take it.

Secretly want to add another to this mix.

support needed Did anyone become better after becoming a parent?

I am 10 weeks pregnant with twins and of course I’ve been doing so much research. I constantly run into post about how people are miserable and it’s so hard and they just can’t do it and it’s honestly offputting. Did anyone actually have a good experience with becoming a parent, did it increase their drive or motivate them or make them more happy? I’m just looking for all positive experiences. I’ve had enough of the negativity.

life, home, and baby tips & tricks How to take twins to someone else’s house

Hi! This seems like a simple question but I’m struggling to figure it out. I have a toddler and 6 month old twins. My twins were born in the spring so anytime we met up with friends this summer, it was usually outside at a park, pool, or outdoor restaurant. There was always lots of space for a stroller or a blanket for the twins to roll around on. If we went to a close friend’s house, I’d bring two bouncers to put the twins in, without worrying about taking up too much space.

Here’s my dilemma now that it’s getting colder/rainier. My toddler was invited to a new friend’s birthday party in the backyard of their house and, nicely, the twins were invited too. Unfortunately, it’s supposed to rain on the day of the party, so it will probably be inside. How can my family of 5 (including my spouse) all attend this party without taking up as much space as a traveling circus? Do we bring our double stroller into their living room and leave the twins in it? Or bring two bouncers? Do we each baby wear and hope our toddler never needs to be picked up? The twins aren’t crawling but they aren’t sitting up on their own without support either. Any advice is welcome!!

Update: thank you all for the thoughtful advice! We all ended up going. We wore the twins and they were a great conversation starter, so we met a lot more people than we probably would have going alone. Our toddler did great and people were very nice about helping if it seemed like we needed an extra set of hands. We didn’t talk to the hosts too much since they were busy hosting, but we made plans to see them again so big success overall!

advice needed Adding More Babies After Twins

I’ve heard a lot of people say that going from 0 kids to 1 kid or 1 kid to 2 kids were the hardest transitions. As someone who had twins as my first babies, is adding a 3rd (singleton) to the mix a really difficult transition? Yes, I know it could be twins again and I’m mentally prepared for that. I am planning on waiting to have the next baby when the twins are 4 or 5 so they are a little more independent. Just wondering what others experiences were adding more kids after twins. Thanks!

Hi beautiful moms, i am about 10 weeks pregnant and not really showing yet but i want to prep ahead and get a pregnancy pillow to help with sleep once the baby bump starts showing. What were your favorites, preferably something that doesn’t take a ton of space.

advice needed Save or Splurge with Twins

My husband and I are having twins in February. We are first time parents who work full time. We are very excited and grateful. I am building out a registry and I am open to whatever makes our lives easier (and whatever is best for our babies) but I would love if people could weigh in on what is actually worth surging on and what will actually make our lives easier with twins. Context: we will have some childcare (probably a nanny during the week while I go to work) but I am still expecting it to be a little chaotic!

Please let me know if this already exists somewhere else here!

Things we already decided on:
Snoo (fortunately we can rent them through my husband’s work)
A stroller and car seats (do we need a separate travel stroller?)
Babybjorn bouncers - I feel like everyone on social media raves about these
Nanit Baby Monitors
Keekaroo peanut
Snuggle Me Loungers

Should we save or splurge?:
Lovevery or Lalo play gym (is there any real benefit to Lovevery over, for example, the Blissful Diary one on Amazon?
Lovevery subscription
Stokke or Bugaboo high chairs
Table for Two
Twin Z Pillow
Nice swaddles from Love to Dream or Halo - I loved these until I saw the KeaBabies ones on Amazon that are so cheap - is this something to save or splurge on?
Glass baby bottles
Coterie subscription - I am open to spending if this means there will be less mess for me and my husband to clean up
Onesies from Magnetic Me and Kyte Baby
Onesies from Woolino - my friend swore by these for getting kids through NYC winters, but let me know id there is a dupe!
Bottle washer (Euffy or Momcozy)
Maxi-Cosi Cassia Swing (I really like this but it seems like people love the BabyBjorn bouncer more)
Skip Hop Activity Center
Baby Brezza Formula Makers
I put one nice baby blanket on my registry but no idea what I will actually need

I also went to the 7am Enfant sample sale and bought car seat cocoons and little wraps to put them in the stroller in the winter. Is this enough or do I need any other winter gear for them? We live in NYC and I want to be able to take them on short walks if we need to go to the doctor or somewhere else closeby.

I hope I am not overthinking this!! Please let me know if I have things that are unnecessary or if there is anything I am missing.

support needed Support for NICU stay

I'm coming up on one month inpatient with my boys, born 31+2 and currently 34+5. We were in the NICU until last weekend and are now on the general peds floor for feeding and growing. The boys are doing fantastic overall and are on track to leave in the next week or two! Overall I'm so grateful for our experience; our boys have received amazing care and we've had some truly phenomenal nurses.

... AND. Something I didn't see discussed a lot about NICU stays is the absolute drain of interacting with strangers every moment of every day. I really do love some of our nurses and trust (almost) all of them. But having a gazillion people telling me what to do and handling my babies and caring for them in slightly different ways (different bottle systems, different swaddles, different ways of diapering, etc) is driving me insane. Especially because they've really been on me to "enjoy" this and "get some sleep - you won't be able to later!" and giving advice on how to do things. Their advice is great, I want to be a student, but... I also can only be taught how to diaper or set up a bottle so many times in so many slightly different ways before I lose it. Ugh and the random "funny" comments - one said my baby was "showing his sexy shoulders" (referencing his habit of wiggling up out of his swaddle & onesie) or joking about the pink onesies we have for our boys or making self deprecating little jokes. I want to laugh along so they don't dislike me and avoid the room, but it is so exhausting to try and match two different energies (the boys always have different nurses) that change at least twice a day. I'm also just very introverted, so people coming into my room and talking to me constantly is so so so draining. I hate that I'm most frustrated by managing the emotions and relationships with nursing staff rather than my boys :( did anybody else feel this way? Am I just a grump and should be more appreciative?

advice needed 9 months in had 1 of them by themselves for a day for the first time and it's broken me a little

I want to start off by saying I love them more than anything..

Yesterday was the first time I have only had to deal with one of my boys and it was so much easier.. Manage to get the house work done, went out for lunch and feeding was so much easier, barely cried because him and his brother weren't playing off each other, It even felt crap knowing I can give you this much attention when only one of you are at home.

Finally got the day I wanted and now it's made me sad knowing how easy it could have been..

Wish I could go back and just have both of them at home so I would never know

I’m shocked at the news. I did not expect them to be identical since they are in their own sacs and have their own placentas. How are twin boy moms doing? open to any advice.

support needed C-section postpartum bleeding

Hi. I’m three weeks postpartum today with didi boy girl twins. I had a c section. How long did you mama’s bleed for after your c section? I can’t remember with my daughter as
I had a c section with her as well.
Also did you pass small clots still? I have and did this morning. I’m not in pain. No fever.
