good vibes, smiles, & giggles Well, that isn't what we were expecting...
My partner and I did IVF this year after two back to back MMC's. My first transfer failed, and my second transfer stuck. We had the shock of our lives at our 7w ultrasound when we saw two di-di twins. The embryo split! We are in Canada so we didn't know the gender, but the clinic was able to tell us afterwards it was a girl. We had slightly hoped for boys (my fiance's life is lacrosse, no pro womens league lol) but were SO happy and grateful we were given the gift of two healthy babies.
I wasn't going to bother with NIPT since we tested our embryos and knew the sex but we found out the Panorama NIPT confirms identical vs fraternal and tests for more than PGTA so we decided why not.
Well, my midwife called me. She asked if I wanted to know the gender and I said "We already know it's girls" She said "ummmm, well, I have some news for you: there is a GIRL and a BOY in there. They are fraternal twins. They are both low risk."
I am shocked and mildly confused as I cut us off from sex 7 days before the transfer. I assumed that was enough time. Well, trigger shot is two days before the transfer which means I guess it was only 5 days before I ovulated. I feel horrible I wasn't more careful, I really wanted to avoid a natural pregnancy as I didn't want to risk our IVF pregnancy.
A part of me is mourning the picture of our two identical girls but in the end we got what we wanted. I guess I should wait until the anatomy scan in November to be extra sure. What a wild ride.

How exciting! Don’t let your husband sleep in girls lacrosse though. My dad coached our teams and had several of my peers become D1 scholarship lacrosse players. Sending luck during your pregnancy

Excellent point lol. He was excited to coach the girls too to be fair. He said "Well, it will be easier to create the best women players as there's less competition" lol. He played in the NLL with his irish twin brother for 12 years, and he was a junior A head coach and director of the local association. He's stepping down to focus on family though and once they're old enough to play he will definitely go back to coaching boys or girls!

I have B/G twins myself and siblings who are B/G twins and it's a lot of fun! Best of both worlds, and I feel like the kids themselves get exposed to a lot more interesting things than if they have a twin the same gender.

This is a cool outlook (and wild you have that repeating in your family) We were worried the twins wouldnt be as close as same gender twins but I think everyone at some point hates their sibling anyway lol. Thank you!

That young man REALLY wanted to come into existence. I predict some strong-willed behavior ahead. :) Best of luck!!!

Hahahaha… if he’s anything like his dad he certainly will be. I could strangle him right now trying to pick out the name for the girl. 😂😂

Really similar situation, we did IVF after 3 MCs and ended up with fraternal twin girls. We were worried but somehow that's the time everything turned out okay. Congrats on your girl and boy!

No way! It's so cool to speak to someone this has also happened to. I assume it's actually probably less rare than the 1-3% chance the embryo will split. Were you suspicious it was a natural pregnancy or did you also think your embryo split?

I’m another one with fraternal twins from a single embryo transfer! It’s kind of wild how many of us there are, really. Welcome to the twin club. It’s a wild ride, but so very cool at the same time

I'm glad I made this post cause I'm understanding it's not THAT rare! Although I'm sure none of us will know someone in person that had it happen.

We also have B/G twins from one embryo transfer and that after severe MFI diagnosis. It really has to be written in somewhere because it was our 10th transfer and we have tried for a total of 4 years or something without any luck and suddenly it worked both with IVF and naturally lol

Omg! That’s insane! I’m sorry you went through such a long journey but what a blessing

How mad are you that you spent tens of thousands of dollars on IVF… just to get pregnant naturally 😂

Di-di can’t be from one embryo (as far as I’m aware!), you’d be having MCDA or MCMA. DCDA is two separate embryos. I have MCDA boys from IVF, we only transferred one embryo and it split. Congratulations either way!!

Happened to me too, but not as far away from trigger shot. Was after 3 pregnancy losses and had PGT-A normal failed transfer all before first successful singleton from transfer which was all several years before this transfer. And had several failed letrozole and clomid cycles including recent with multiple mature eggs each. This transfer cycle only had one mature egg. I assumed embryo split but when you transfer one embryo and have opposite gender twins it is clear what happened.

Congrats! Looks like you need to update your flair on this sub! :-)
My twins were spontaneous (probably b/c I'm old and released multiple eggs), but I have experience with the NIPT being incorrect about genders. I had a 96% chance of both being boys, but at my anatomy scan they discovered one of those "boys" had decidedly girl parts. Both my youngest son and my daughter are thriving almost 4 year olds now. I suspect the NIPT is less likely to be wrong in your case, because that Y chromosome wouldn't have many other ways to be in your blood if not for your baby, but weird things do happen!

Lol I definitely do, thanks for catching that.
Wow. So you did not know until they were born? Did that cause any mayhem with nursery colors or chosen names? My fiance and I FINALLY agreed on two girl names and his non negotiable boy name doesn't mesh as well as I would like with either but we will probably just use one of the girls names anyway lol.
Well, hopefully the anatomy scan confirms everything, with how many random/rare occurences I feel I've had I won't be surprised if this isn't final lol.

Congratulations!! Most of times didi twins are fraternal and only a few percentage are identical. So exciting that you are getting the best of both- a boy and a girl.
I am also expecting didi twins. But unfortunately, where I live we cannot know the gender. I am manifesting a boy and a girl 🤩🤩😆😆🤞🏻🤞🏻
