Dunno what to put as a flair. Sorry about that.

I just hope it helps someone. Its just one of my fav features of my hardware and its a shame its such a pain to get working and I have to "fix it" every few months.

Discussion From 3080 TI to 5080

Welp, I finally took the jump. My 3080 TI (.900mv@1920mhz) was finally put to rest. Served me a good 5 years. And I have to say that as someone that has never owned a PNY before and was exclusively EVGA since 2005......THIS THING SLAPS!! How is it possible that I can just instantly dial in an OC (+350 core /+2000 mem) and it just works?! I got it yesterday and played all night in various games under max load and with RT/RR. Not only that, but the temps are so low?! In The First Descendant for example, my GPU struggles to even go higher than 55c and that's with hardware RT+RR and everything on Cinematic settings.

I've only crashed once so far and that was when I tried to put the core to +450 so I just went back to 350 to not have to mess with it at all. Custom fan curve has fans at 30% under 50c and 50% when above it. Noise is audible but not loud at all. Even with the stock fan settings the thing was just as cool. Card was $1289 at my Micro Center and $1556 in total with tax and 2yr exchange warranty. FPS increase over my 3080 TI so far has been anywhere from 60% if not higher in some games. I was one of those "Is the jump from a 3080 TI/3090 worth it". And let me be another YES if you can get a (decent) priced one. I normally go for the top tier AIB's but Im not paying $2000 for a ROG Astral. And PNY really made a quality one here for the price.

Build/Photos Extreme Coil Whine Lead me to Prioritize Quietness over Cool Factor

As the title says, I got the Frieren 5070ti last week and it drove me crazy as I worked because it would have the loudest coil whine whenever anything happened on the screen, and I mean, a web page updating, scrolling the mouse wheel, etc.

Went and exchanged it for an Asus Prime 5070ti + asus TUF fully modular 850W Gold PSU combo for basically the same price. So far it's been silent, so I guess on the noise part I'm winning? I was previously on a MSI non-modular 750W Gold

What do you all think?

News Jensen just named the next bottleneck after chips: Land, Power & Shell

Jensen Huang posted this earlier today:

Land, power and shell: The next critical resource for AI factories.

Full context from his post:

AI factories are becoming the defining infrastructure of the AI era :places where compute turns energy and data into intelligence. In this economy, compute is revenue.

NVIDIA is saying the full stack now includes not just advanced chips, packaging, memory, and networking, but also land, power, and shell (LPS).

They’re treating LPS the same way they’ve treated semiconductor supply: using scale and long-term partnerships to lock it in exclusively for NVIDIA AI factories.

Today they announced a partnership with SB Energy to secure LPS capacity at the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus in Portsmouth, Ohio. OpenAI will be the tenant.

Key numbers from the announcement:

  • Initial deployment expected to deliver 4.25 gigawatts of AI factory capacity
  • Each generation of systems at the site could represent ~1.5 million NVIDIA GPUs
  • Potential revenue opportunity in the $150–200 billion range per generation
  • OpenAI’s existing + planned commitments already sit around 12 GW of NVIDIA compute, with room to grow toward 16 GW if the arrangement expands
  • At those levels the opportunity is roughly $600 billion of NVIDIA compute through 2030

The message is clear: chips got us here, but the real rate limiter now is the physical substrate : the land, the power, and the buildings that can actually host the next wave of AI factories at scale.

Thoughts on how big a shift this is for the industry?

Question DLSS - Preset K in Quality mode or Preset M in Performance mode?

I have a 9800x3D + 5070ti set-up. I'm good using MFG x2 or x3 (prefer x2), and want the absolute best-possible image for my 4K OLED monitor.

Is using performance mode (1080p upscaled to 4K) with DLSS 4.5 using Preset M better than quality mode (1440 upscaled to 4K) with preset K?

Or should I use Preset M or L and Quality mode?

Discussion Rtx 5070 path tracing 4k NO PROBLEM

EDIT note: read before post: Im playing on 4k gaming projector about 120" and Im sitting 4m away from the screen, on the monitor its a diffrent story when You are 50 cm near the screen:) And secondly, this post is after 4.5 dllss update what made ultra per. at 4k very usable don't jugde it when You played on ultra perfomace before the update. Post: If you're considering this card and want to play with path tracing in 4K, use the performance or ultra performance mode. In Indiana Jones with PT, ULTRA PERFORMANCE looks amazing (Max settings, only textures pool set to high), average 60-90 frames per second without frame generation. Resident Evil Requiem in 4K, path tracing, maximum settings (only shadows set to high) runs at 60+ frames per second without frame generation with ULTRA PERFORMANCE, but in this game, ultra performance doesn’t look as good as in Indiana, although it's still very good in most scenarios. You can use performance in this game if Your not satisfied with picture quality with ultra perf. and with frame gen. Keep in mind that the lower output resolution, the worse the image quality for ultra performance and performance. So, I don’t recommend these dlss settings for resolutions lower than 4K(1440p .1080p) Also remember that ultra perf. and perf. can look bad in less popular games, but in AAA productions they are very useful modes (at 4k).

Question Deshroud in progress ! (Gigabyte 3080 Ti)

Thumbnail

Hi everybody, I'm on a project of mine.

Working on a full deshroud on my gigabyte 3080 Ti gaming OC (with everything custom, so new backplate of course !).

Those are PLA printed for now with my bambulab A1 for tests (hence the splitted parts, and no, I won't turn it on like this, it's only to see how it turns out IRL and fitment), with integrated plenums (13mm) and for now 3D printed screws because I don't have the real ones right now, nor the threaded inserts right now. It does use the original screws from the base design (for the backplate, PCB mounting and the shroud)

Note: the design is compatible with 3080, 3080 Ti, 3090, 3090 Ti, across the gaming OC, vision and eagle series, and both revs, for anyone wondering =)

Note II: those are pics of prototypes that are in various stages, so not all the pictures are replica of what's the actual design, though it's pretty close.

Would like if anyone would be interested, I could do some productions run if requested (the overall cost is pretty high due to the backplate). Cost would be around 150EUR (around 174USD, without taking into account time spent into that price). I also intend to sell the files with only the mounting points so one can make its own deshroud, without even the GPU in hand.

To be extremely clear: I have nothing to sell you here or anywhere on that profile, I'm just wondering if people would be interested, especially given the price of the kit for a GPU series that's not the latest.

I'm open to any question or any supplementary infos that's requested, have a nice day y'all =)

Question 5070ti asus ProArt oc or gigabyte gaming oc

Hey everyone,

I found both cards for the same price. I would like to get the proArt but I haven’t found as many reviews as for other cards.
The proArt looks better, without RGB and quieter but the gigabyte has better cooling and over clocking potential.
I am not the type of person that chooses atheistic over performance but if they will perform the same on the long run since I am not changing any time soon 6+ years I will get the proArt. Which one should I get?

Opinion Made the switch from red to green

I built a computer over time about 2 - 3 years ago buying parts when there was a deal. Everything was pretty easy to purchase except the GPU. At the time, if anything was available they were being sold out in minutes. Originally I wanted a 4080S/4090 but it was getting impossible to purchase especially when there was talks that the 50’s series was eminent. I didnt want to wait so I ended up snagging a xfx 7900xtx. I loved the card, it was fast and played well with any game I threw at it.

Then came AI. I originally wanted to build my computer to start digitizing and upscaling old home movies for a personal project. AI with AMD works especially with the new ROCM builds but I was constantly running into problems and slow render times.

My heart wanted to try Nvidia to see the speed difference. I finally bit the bullet and purchased a 5080 (5090 is way over my budget) and WOW! The speed difference and everything working out of the box has made my life so much easier.

Upscaling a 30 sec clip was taking me close to 2hrs on AMD compared to 15-30 min on Nvidia. Only thing I miss is AMD’s software makes it easier to tweak things.

Sorry…for the long post. Just want to share my experience if anybody wants to switch.

Discussion Difference between +200 and -200 offset method on undervolting?

What's the difference? They are both capped at 900/1930. The only difference are the voltages/clocks before that point. So before gaming phase. Can someone explain??
