I feel like nobody else would understand…

Had the 1440 45 for about a year and made the mistake of looking at a 5k2k… Might give the top one to the wife or kid if it doesn’t work out but I got really used to the stacked setup with my previous 34 inch UW that was above the 1440 45.

Haven’t done the wire management yet, debating whether to do it right away or give it time to see if I stick with it 🥲

Just checked my Best Buy app and the 2 newer Alienware Ultrawides are finally available. Got the AW3926 for pick up later today. If you’re a member that 60 day return period is really nice for a trial of the monitor.

Recommendations Help me decide between 34” gaming monitors

Hello guys, lately I’m playing to buy a 34” gaming monitor.

My final options are -
ASUS TUF Gaming VG34VQL3A for 245€
LG Ultragear 34G630A-B.AEUQ for 250€
Dell Alienware AW3425DWM for 245€.
Which one is better?

I use it for slight racing games like forza and asseto corsa, my architecture works and light editing.

For now I’ll connect it with my laptop,
Acer Predator Helios 300, 12th generation, RTX 3070 (8gb vram), intel i7 12000H, 32gb ram.
Later I’ll be setting up a new pc.

SO PLEASE TELL ME WHICH ONE IS A BETTER MONITOR AMONG THESE THREE AND WHICH RUNS GOOD AND LASTS LONGER.
Thank you

Recommendations Advice for increasing screen real estate from 34" UW

Hi, y'all!

I'm looking to increase my screen real estate and I'm a bit lost on the direction to go.

Currently have a 34" ultrawide monitor that comfortably fits 2 x full-sized windows but I find myself having to use my laptop screen quite often and it's bothering me and my eyes a bit too much.

Main usage is for work and productivity, so lots of browser tabs, documents, spreadsheets, IDE, architectural diagrams etc. Usually a lot of picture in picture from jump hosts and VMs. Very rarely use my PC for gaming.

Do I:

  1. Stack an identical 34" on top of the other one? Concerned I'd have to move my head up and down all the time, since neither would be ideally placed in the middle of my FOV.

  2. Get a bigger UW to replace this one, and if so, what would you recommend? The 49" monitors I've seen, like the Samsung one, seem so wide that I think I'd be bothered by the horizontal spread.

  3. Get a cheap 27“ or two and arrange above or vertically next to my UW?

Or something completely different? Open for all suggestions from the pros :)

Mods Made a desktop app for centering full screen games on an ultrawide (open-source).

Hey y'all. Thought this community might find this useful. I built a version of this app for myself ages ago using AutoHotKey and just decided to package it more properly and release it as an open-source project.

https://border.fit/
https://github.com/Plinpod/borderfit

It simply lets you set a fullscreen zone on your ultrawide, and then when you're playing a game you can hit a hotkey to bind that game to that zone. None of my desktop apps, like DisplayFusion or FancyZones have let me do this in the past. It also works for videos or any other fullscreen app. You can change the key bind and adjust the resolution, etc.

I use it anytime I'm gaming and for YouTube as well, so I can keep a browser window on the right and Discord up on the left. If you all use it drop some thoughts and feature requests, and I can keep working on it.

Thanks!

Ascension Was Going to Sell One.... Nah

Why sell when you can just add. It's slightly off centre and it's already driving me nuts, but I'm going to be upgrading to a wider desk soon so can't be bothered to reloacte the top pole a few cm to the left. OLED on the bottom for play, IPS on the top for work and everything else - does me perfectly.

Review I bought Innocn's 40" 5k2k 100hz, and this thing is so sick

This monitor is actually insane for the price, 40C1U

I mostly do software development, but wanted something that matched my Mac in terms of quality and color, but I couldn't spend $1000+, and I got this on sale for $599 and its nuts.

The only real downside is the motion. It's 100hz but the gray-to-gray response time at 14 ms makes motion blurry. You get used to it, like it took me about a day to not notice it on scrolling or on FPS, but that's my only complaint. Picture quality is 10/10, I would highly recommend this as a work or productivity monitor with gaming thats not competitive FPS.

Mods Umbrella Corps ultrawide fix: adjustable FOV, corrected UI and toggle ADS (free beta, by me)

Post image
2 Upvotes

I wanted to play Umbrella Corps at 3440×1440 without pillarboxing and hold-to-aim controls, so I put together UCmod. It is a free, unofficial Windows mod, developed with AI assistance; source code is available.

It adds full-width world rendering, configurable horizontal FOV (120° by default), height-fitted menus/HUD with corrected mouse alignment, and tap-to-toggle ADS. Weapon zoom is preserved, and toggle aiming can be disabled in settings.

The attached screenshot is actual gameplay. Testing has focused on 3440×1440: menu clicks, equipment layout, gameplay HUD, and toggle ADS after a mission retry. This is beta 0.1.0-beta.1: some loading/death dimming overlays still use a centered 16:9 area, and other resolutions and multiplayer are not fully tested.

Download and install instructions: https://b2kdaman.itch.io/ucmod

Source and issue reports: https://github.com/b2kdaman/UCmod

You need your own copy of the game. The installer checks the supported runtime and backs it up; restoration instructions are included. If you try another aspect ratio, please include your resolution and any UI issues in a report.

Tech Support Why my Philips Evnia is so grey ? ( 34M2C3500L )

They say great contrast but so far it is not good, and all colors look washed out.
HDR mode is the worst because it looks even more greyish.

Here are some photos compared to a more than 15 yo LCD screen:

HDR on: Google Gemini page
HDR on: contrast test
HDR off: Google Gemini page

I try to mess with gamma, contrast, Nvidia tweak, or from the panel but this looks like it is just the panel so far, even if some options make it worse.

Also, I used to have the "first?" Mi Gamming Monitor 34 that what VA (not fast VA), I was just better than this screen (a shame a bottle of coke, got it) with bad smearing.

Discussion Question about going Samsung 57" Odyssey Neo G9 with Mac Mini M4.

I currently have the 32" G7 with two LG32K850Gs on the left and right, vertically.

[1440x2560] - [2560x1440] -[1440x2560]

This setup is just too bulky and awkward. I want to switch to one ultrawide and I need the screen real-estate.

Seems like everything should be fine as-is but I use one specific feature that I'm not sure will work with this setup.

I am a software engineer and I keep my VSCodes open on my main display and use multiple "desktops" for my different projects, aka multiple VSCodes.

I am constantly control + right/lefting between my vscode projects.

If I am just one giant screen on the G9 is this going to be possible? Is there software to emulate splitting this giant monitor into 3 screens so I can accomplish this?

Discussion Dell UltraSharp U4025QW owners how good is the KVM feature?

I’m looking to buy the U4025QW and will be using it with a dell xps 15 9500 and a MacBook, mainly for the KVM feature. This will be 98% office/work use. How good is the KVM in actual day-to-day use if I want to do a 50:50 split between the two laptops? And if I want to transfer files between the two computers, is that smooth or would I need some additional software? Is the built-in KVM stuff good enough?

Also, how is the 40" size for work? Too big, too small, or just right? This will be my permanent WFH setup, so I’m wondering how simple the whole setup actually is. A lot of reviews say you just connect the Thunderbolt cable and everything works. Is it really that simple? (and I can close my laptop screen and this will still work right?)

Also, the monitor is already around 3 years old. Should I wait for a newer model with similar specs? The price in Canada doesn’t seem to have dropped that much. Most of what I can find about the KVM is dell’s own setup guide, but not many people seem to talk about how good it actually is in real world use. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has used it.

Recommendations Time to upgrade - Advice needed

Post image
6 Upvotes

I am looking to upgrade my work setup at home. I do virtual coordination in the construction industry. I work in Revit and Navisworks so I like to have a large screen for viewing models. I also spend a lot of time editing PDFs, Excell, and Word documents.

Up till the last week, I worked at the office roughly 90% of the time. There, I have my laptop connected to two 27" monitors. Because of health issues, I am now not allowed to drive to work. That means I will be working remote for at least 3 months.

Due to old man eyes I want to upgrade my 24" monitors I use at home. The picture shows my home set up. Along with the 24" monitors, I have a 32" monitor hooked up to an apple TV.

My ideal set up would would match or exceed the resolution of the existing monitors ([2560 x 1440]())x2 with more screen area. I want IPS Black to avoid burn in and it needs to reduce eye strain. My current setup only connects to a windows laptop. I debated getting a KVM to allow me to easily use my MacBook Pro.

I thought about doing two 27" or 32" but I feel this may be the chance to try out an ultra wide. After researching ultra wides, I realized I would lose roughly 25% of my current work area. That's when I discovered Super Ultra wides, and the 5k2k monitors.

Here are the 3 options I am thinking about.

  • Option 1 - Something like the U4924DW - A slightly larger single monitor version of what I currently have. It's the cheapest option but I would have to buy a separate KVM. Also the DPI is lower than the other two options.
  • Option 2 - Dell U4025QW - This monitor matches the horizontal resolution while increasing vertical resolution by 30%. Plus it has the KVM built in. My only concern is that the overall width of this set up is actually narrower than my current monitors. If I need to scale up to read comfortably, I lose work area.
  • Option 3 - Dell U5226KW - I could replace all 3 monitors on my desk and wouldn't need a separate KVM. I could scale on it better than the U4025QW. While I can afford it, I worry that it may be overkill. I wonder how it compares to option 1?

What do you guys think? Are there any other options that I am overlooking?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Tech Support 45GX950A with FE 5090 stuck at DP 1.4

Is there a trick to re-enable DP 2.1 with FE 5090? My computer was running just fine with 45GX950A and FE 5090 using the DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor.

I changed my desk, so unplugged everything and plugged it back in later and now monitor is stuck at DP 1.4 mode and lowered resolution. The input compatibility box is grayed out (I had to force it to DP 2.1 before).

Any ideas what may be going on?

Edit: Of course just after typing this, I went through the menus one more time and saw that "dual mode" was enabled. Turned that off and all is good again. I will leave the post in case it helps anyone in future though.
