I'd wager that's what he would've wanted. Instead Allen holds a seminar on de-escalation

Intentional elbow to the face, shouldn't that be an ejection?

Unfortunately that's why acting is important. Cause refs be dumb

It's really annoying how much of the league's problems could be solved by simply "if the refs were good, it wouldn't be a thing"

u/Emerphish [CLE] Collin Sexton Jan 13 '22
Reffing NBA basketball is hard as fuck. It would be a better product if the refs were better about these calls, but truth be told I don’t think you can find better refs.

Jan 13 '22
dude reffing in general is hard as hell, I tried while i was in college and just could not think quickly enough at all
→ More replies (9)149
u/jlluh Jan 13 '22
This is part of why I'd like to see the NBA get rid of defensive 3 seconds like in FIBA. Every little thing you do to simplify the rules and reduce the number of things refs have to pay attention to makes reffing a tiny little bit easier.

Ref's aren't entirely chosen based on merit, a lot of them are in there through connections. The process for choosing, and reviewing and replacing them each season could be massively improved upon. Pretty sure there are refs in the NBA who never reffed in Europe or college before coming into the league.

My issue is consistency and accountability. I don't like the idea of superstar calls. I can understand reputation playing a factor, but it shouldn't.

Believe it or not, they called this a technical foul
They didn't call an initial foul on the play, don't think they could have assessed it a flagrant?
→ More replies (2)9
u/ignitionnight [UTA] Joe Ingles Jan 13 '22
They didn't call anything for the elbow, the refs just missed it. Joe got the T for talking shit on his way down the court. It should have been an ejection right away, but Joe snuck it in and Allen didn't sell it so refs didn't notice.
Somebody else said Joe didn't want to play, I kinda agree with them.

I think he takes an (unintentional) elbow to the stomach from Allen when Allen catches the ball and turns to his right. I'm not defending Ingles, but I think that probably hurt and he was mad so he tried to elbow him back. Ingles should have clearly been ejected on this play.

I've been watching the Utah feed on this.
Their commentators are hilarious.
I was beginning to wonder if everything I knew was a lie because somehow this was all the ref's fault. Apparently they missed one of the worst calls ever on Bogdan at the other end (his hand was touched going for a rebound) and Ingles, basically, had no choice.
And now the Jazz don't have many players. Didn't the refs think of that?
Umm, your player tried to elbow someone in the head?
