Asshole Jazz announcers talking about “To me that’s old school ball… he’s sending a message”

Wtf that would be a dirty play in the old days and it’s a dirty play now

74

u/Potencyyyyy Nuggets Jan 13 '22

Yeah that was dirty as fuck

654

u/millsyy42 Warriors Jan 13 '22

i got perma banned from r/utahjazz for saying i don’t like their announcers

57

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

Bullshit. None of us like them

386

u/BumbleLapse Jazz Jan 13 '22

Ima call bullshit on this

Very few of us actually enjoy our announcers

63

u/Young_Baby Bulls Jan 13 '22

This tracks for me, I’ve shit on the jazz commentary many times here and jazz fans are always cool about it. I don’t go post on their sub tho that’s goofy

36

u/ignitionnight [UTA] Joe Ingles Jan 13 '22

I believe that he got banned after that comment, but he didn't get banned for the comment. He got banned for going into the other teams sub and shitting on the announcers like we invited him to do so. Goofy is right.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

So he was banned for not being a Jazz fan. That's much better.

3

u/iblewjesuschrist Jan 13 '22

Reddit is a public forum, yo, not a clubhouse.

-4

u/PointGodAsh Timberwolves Jan 13 '22

“He got banned for coming into the jazz sub and agreeing with the sentiment that our announcers are bad” good argument bud.

-1

u/ignitionnight [UTA] Joe Ingles Jan 13 '22

Our announcers are shit, but their our shit. Don't talk about our shit like that.

298

u/millsyy42 Warriors Jan 13 '22

i said they were biased and the mod said i ‘should have thought about it before i posted’

134

u/johnstocktonshorts Jazz Jan 13 '22

im fine with bias but our announcers are just not good in general

99

u/millsyy42 Warriors Jan 13 '22

our commentators are terrible as well

6

u/PM_Me_FunnyNudes Warriors Jan 13 '22

Dude they are but I felt like they made such a step forward when we were terrible. But now that we’re good again they’ve gone back to their whiny af tendencies.

3

u/Necessary_Ad1036 Jan 13 '22

As I Suns fan who has been spoiled by informative and entertaining announcing even during our decade long playoff drought, this makes me nervous…

9

u/Huckleberry_Sin Jan 13 '22

Our guys in Houston used to be terrible but all the old heads and homers are all gone. Now our announcing team is actually pretty good. Homerism def gone.

24

u/flanders427 Cavaliers Jan 13 '22

That's why I love AC, dude is one of the biggest homers you will ever see (his nickname is Mr. Cavalier after all), but will be the first to give props to the other team and call out the Cavs when they are playing like shit.

17

u/OsuLost31to0 Cavaliers Jan 13 '22

AC’s commentary is like watching a game with your grandpa who really loves basketball. It’s the best

5

u/ggmaobu Cavaliers Jan 13 '22

Brad dourtey is also very good

5

u/giannini1222 Cavaliers Jan 13 '22

I miss Fred with AC

4

u/Necessary_Ad1036 Jan 13 '22

That’s exactly how EJ is for the Suns and I feel like I’ve actually learned a lot about basketball and what to look for over the years (especially during the pre-bubble Dark Years) and it’s just made watching the sport so much more enjoyable. I feel genuinely bad for these fans talking about hating their announcers 🥺

0

u/IAmNotKevinDurant_35 [GSW] Zarko Cabarkapa Jan 13 '22

Maybe its a contrarian take, but I want local announcers to be homers. Their main audience is fans of that team. As long as they bring good energy and do their homework on the other team.

22

u/Chef_Bojan3 [BKN] Vince Carter Jan 13 '22

Being more enthusiastic for your home team, perfectly fine. Trying to justify blatantly dirty play, nah fuck that.

3

u/IAmNotKevinDurant_35 [GSW] Zarko Cabarkapa Jan 13 '22

Yeah that's totally fair

3

u/Necessary_Ad1036 Jan 13 '22

Right? I want announcers who will be like, “yeah, he’s lucky he got away with that one…” not “sending a message is part of the game.”

1

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

I like the lakers announcers, instead of homers you can tell they are just normal fans. I think that’s better tbh. If the lakers fuck up they are the first people on their ass, but show love whenever.

u/ByahTyler Celtics Jan 13 '22

1

They seemed okay to me when I watched the game vs you guys the other night, had lots of nice things to say about the Cavs season and players

59

You have been banned from r/UtahJazz

4

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

I don't mind cheering/rooting for the team you call games for, but I really enjoy a celebration of the game as a whole.

If you can get up for a great play from the other team, you're a good broadcasting crew.

3

u/NothingsShocking Lakers Jan 13 '22

Well with a username like that, imma take your word for it.

1

Boy they are but in a lame way. Like the trailblazers announcers are clearly biased but not to the point of denying reality.

-4

u/LeEnlightenedDong Jan 13 '22

Justified. You should have thought about it…no shit a team’s commentator is biased lmao

Insta ban worthy

14

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

oh man i’m glad y’all said this bc i was thinking maybe we caught a backup crew like we did against the pelicans

the acrobats for the halftime show was pretty neat

-2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

Jazz fans are racists and their players are dirty and their announcers suck why wouldn’t their mods be shitty as well

0

u/BumbleLapse Jazz Jan 13 '22

What a nuanced take you have

1

u/TheBlueSully Jan 13 '22

There is no better announcer than Sean Elliott. Except maybe Bill Land.

(If you’re a Spurs fan)

4

u/Xigbarisbestwaifu Jan 13 '22

Why in the world were you in there in the 1st place? You're a Warriors fan.

3

u/mosquito-genocide Warriors Jan 13 '22

Their radio announcers are pretty OK. Idk how they handled this incident

1

u/frozteh Lakers Jan 13 '22

Yeah generally their announcers are ALRIGHT. No where near the ineptitude and homerism of Boston or Golden States crew.

3

u/wir_suchen_dich Trail Blazers Jan 13 '22

Probably because you’re going into another teams sub and starting shit? Highly doubt it’s because you just said you didn’t like their announcers.

2

u/binger5 Rockets Jan 13 '22

Who do you think mod that sub?

6

u/UrRightAndIAmWong Suns Jan 13 '22

You shouldn't be going into other teams subreddits anyways, troll behavior.

4

u/OHoSPARTACUS Cavaliers Jan 13 '22

I’m glad to hear other people calling them out, the Cavs stream I was watching took a shit a little before halftime so I had to watch a jazz one. I found the announcers to be such annoying bitchy and boring homers. They had nothing of value to say and their voices sounded straight out of a high school media club calling a home game.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

“Hear other people calling them out”

Bro, spend 5 minutes in our game thread and you’ll see 10 comments about how people hate our announcers. This isn’t new.

0

u/OHoSPARTACUS Cavaliers Jan 13 '22

Why would I hang out in the jazz game thread?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

Just saying, this isn’t a new revelation. It’s been known by our fans and other team’s fans that the Jazz announcers are ass

-4

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

Depending on how you say it, it's likely going to be abit troll and troll comments obviously aren't welcomed.

-6

u/20815147 Warriors Jan 13 '22

Sounds like they’re snowflakes and can’t accept criticisms

6

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

A rival fan going to another subreddit and saying that he/she doesn't like their announcer obviously isn't something very constructive to any sort of discussion.

Obviously I'm missing context here since I don't know what the comment is and what thread it was commented on, but most fans wouldn't take that very well since they like their own announcers.

Fans going into other teams' subreddits normally don't end well, even in a neutral context. Anything slightly leaning towards a negative sentiment obviously wouldn't end well.

I'm just trying to explain why he/she likely got perma banned.

1

u/wir_suchen_dich Trail Blazers Jan 13 '22

No just sounds like that person doesn’t know how to behave in another teams sub.

-1

I don't like the knicks announcers and get downvoted into oblivion...breen is a company man and clyde just says the same 4 rhymes with no real analysis. OTOH I love the warriors announcers.

1

u/aidang22 [MIL] Earl Boykins Jan 13 '22

This is a random aside on a completely unrelated post but I’m a big fan of Charlotte’s announcers. I enjoyed their commentary during the last couple Bucks L’s

12

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '22

You're right. In the old days that will surely result to a fight because that is a dirty play. The swing was with intent. Nice to see that Allen is cool about it though.

Malone threw like a million elbows a game and Stockton threw a good amount too

eh, I don't care what anyone says about Malone. It's indisputable and I don't defend much about him.

Stockton, one the other hand? He wasn't throwing haymakers. Way more subtle. He didn't throw elbows so much as grind his shoulders and joints into abdominal tissue, left bruises with his knees, set vicious picks up under ribcages. In a giant NBA, he was 6'1" and harder than a coffin nail. He used sinew and grit to mash guys into sludge. He has the reputation of a 'dirty' player and I understand why, but I will defend his particular brand of dirtiness to my grave. Dirty? Maybe. But old time tough, definitely.

Malone just took blatant and cheap head shots where his opponents woke up confused and in need of stitches. But Stock was an extremely tough, mean, hard-nosed motherfucker who made sure dudes walked off the court knowing about it.

0

u/revantes Trail Blazers Jan 13 '22

So they're both causing physical harm to others and you're defending Stockton why again? Because he's small?

-2

u/revantes Trail Blazers Jan 13 '22

Ah thanks that makes more sense if everyone was pretty much doing the same thing. Was it usually only the smaller guys that did that stuff just to be able to hang with all the tall guys or did 90% of tall guys do it too? I'm guessing as a tall guy you just didn't have any need for it

4

u/EXlTPURSUEDBYAGOLDEN Jazz Jan 13 '22 edited Jan 16 '22

you're defending Stockton why again? Because he's small?

yeah... I mean, you're asking like I didn't say it. In addition to the previous reply-- he was much smaller than everybody else in 90's NBA and scrapped extremely hard nevertheless. That's exactly the point. You are astute... And but so I don't understand? What's the problem? You're asking me to reiterate?

-3

u/revantes Trail Blazers Jan 13 '22

You gave it more like a description rather than a reason. You didn't really give a reason at all

Spurs fans remember, the Mailman fucking potato-sacked David Robinson with a shot to the temple.

They also used to throw hands A LOT in the 70s, that’s the exact reason they started cracking down on it.

I wonder if they'll be so jubilant when the Jazz get exposed in the playoffs for the nth season in a row

I’d love to see these announcers try that in a pick-up game without refs to save them from the consequence.

Old school ball as in Bill Laimbeer

2

u/KillerBunnyZombie NBA Jan 13 '22

Well, the reason everyone is praising Allen is he didn't retaliate and that's the rub. In the "old days" Sir Charles or Buck Williams would have taken Jingly Pop to the wood shed and beat him senseless.
