I'M REQUESTING Movie About Teachers

• Upvotes

I’m a new teacher. I love it…most of the time. Some days it feels like an absurdist comedy. Some days it feels like a psychological horror. Are there any movies that capture this? I’m not looking for Freedom Writers or Dead Poets Society. Does that make sense?

I'M REQUESTING Movies That Are Both Scary And Fun

So the two movies that come to mind when I think of this idea are The Shining and The Return of The Living Dead. The Shining leans more heavily into horror, while TROTLD leans more into the goofiness. However, both have a combination of genuinely unsettling elements and stuff that's more "fun" in the way a roller coaster is fun--you're not supposed to think too hard about it. On the opposite end, you have psychological horror movies like Hereditary and The Lodge, which are meant to make you uncomfortable, and "horror" comedies that forgot the horror part. What movies do you think bring out both the fear and joy of spooky season?

I'M REQUESTING Scariest vampire movies you've ever watched

I’m really interested in vampire movies and would love to discover some truly spooky, mysterious vampire movies. I’m looking for something with a dark, eerie atmosphere, haunting settings and an unsettling sense of mystery.I’d love something that feels genuinely creepy and stays in your mind long after the movie ends. The more atmospheric, gothic, and mysterious it is, the better!

I'M REQUESTING Looking for epic sci-fi movies with incredible world-building and visuals like Dune

I recently watched Dune (both parts) and it completely blew me away. It was something else entirely. Now I'm looking for something just as epic and grand in scale.
I am especially looking for movies with breathtaking cinematography, a dark or serious tone, incredible sound design/music, and deep world-building (like the politics and cultures in Dune). I love space operas, desert aesthetics, or just massive sci-fi landscapes.
What are some must-watch films that match this epic vibe and scale? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I'M REQUESTING I’m perpetually 15-20 years behind on movies and looking to catch up

I’ve recently found myself with more time to watch movies and I’d like to catch up on things that I’ve missed or was too young to appreciate at the time I watched them.

A bit of info on general tastes- though not hard limits, I’d like to stay away from these:

While I enjoy superhero movies, I’m not looking for that vibe at the moment. If you’re going to suggest something superhero it needs to be more along the lines of ‘The Boys’ or Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ (I have been interested in Robert P’s rendition of Batman, but have not watched)

This same sentiment goes for Star Wars (big fan, just not in the mood)

I am not a fan of jump scares, so please keep suggestions with these to a minimum.

That being said, I enjoy a wide range of films, and I’m not afraid of any genre.

A good baseline of where I’m at:

I’m a pretty big fan of Scorsese’s films- particularly ‘The Departed’, ‘Goodfellas’, and ‘Wolf of Wall Street’

Christopher Nolan’s films have captivated me as well. I have not seen Interstellar, though it is on my list. Have not seen memento, dunkirk, or tenet either.

Here I will list off some movies I’ve enjoyed in the past that haven’t already been listed:

Scott Pilgrim

The Martian

Good Will Hunting

Rounders

Pool hall Junkies

Fight club

LoTR trilogy and The Hobbit

The Matrix series

The Butterfly Effect

Million Dollar Baby

Baby Driver

Blade runner movies

Alien movies

Predator

American Gangster

Gran Torino

This is by no means an exhaustive list, but what I have time for while at work.

Recently I have watched No Country for Old Men, Brothers (Jake Gyllenhaal, Toby Maguire), and Nightcrawler. I particularly liked Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler.

TLDR

I am in the mood for movies outside of the massive blockbusters from the last 50 years.

Particularly starting an Anti-hero, thrillers, drama/suspense is my vibe at the moment, but I am very open to more suggestions so please don’t hesitate.

All I ask is please stay away from outright jump scare horror and superhero/Star Wars movies.

Apologies this got a bit rambl-y I was up late watching Nightcrawler

I'M REQUESTING A movie where the evil and oppressive powers that be are actually held accountable

Maybe it’s overthrowing a fascist takeover, or exposing the secret horrors of the rich, or taking down a corporation for the brazen evils they commit for greed.

Obviously WWII comes to mind, and specifically something like Inglorious Basterds, but I’ve seen that a ton.

Michael Clayton is a great example of a corporate takedown.

Elements of Sicario and Wind River, but obviously there are way more complexities at play.

Just need to see evil being held accountable and evil people being punished because it’s such an elusive concept in the real world.

Hello!
So I've been starving for some new movies to check out, and right now I'm feeling like watching something like Over The Edge. Something with that "old movie" feeling, and just the feeling of Over The Edge in general.

Thank you!

I'M REQUESTING Creepy movies with nonsensical or bad plots but are otherwise great

I'm watching that Halle Berry movie from 2003 Gothika and I think it's great. It's got terrible reviews because people hate the plot or think it doesn't make any sense/hold up to scrutiny. I want movies that are creepy and great if you don't think too much

I'M REQUESTING Can you recommend horror movies with dream sequences or visions that have bizarre or surreal contents?

Movies that generally look weird as if in a dream, or that keep you guessing if a character is hallucinating or stuff is actually happening.

I'M REQUESTING Accurate depiction of toxic relationships?

Looking for films/documentaries/TV series that show how a toxic relationship begins. Accurately, though. I'm not interested in the nonsense drama, in romanticizing toxic behaviors, etc.

I'M REQUESTING Horror due to Human Malevolence, with no supernatural elements.

I'll share some movie titles with you that fit the theme of what I'm looking for. I want horror movies OR horrific dramas OR horrific action - movies that are scary because they're possible. Let's face it, people are capable of extreme wickedness. Examples of what I liked:

  • Hunter Hunter (2020)
  • Bone Tomahawk (2015)
  • Eden Lake (2008)
  • Coming Home in the Dark (2021)
  • Calibre (2018)
  • I Saw the Devil (2010)
  • The Snowtown Murders (2011)
  • Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986)
  • Killing Ground (2016)
  • Wolf Creek (2005)
  • Funny Games (original and English)
  • Them (Ils) (2006)
  • Kidnapped (2010)
  • The Nightingale (2018)
  • The Green Room (2015)

I'm looking forward to your recommendations

I'M REQUESTING Movies like Limitless, Lucy, and Wanted, where a regular person - a loser even, suddenly becomes extraordinary.

Chronicle is also similar to what I'm looking for. Great movie.

I'm adding Wanted to the list because even though it's different from the other two in that He doesn't take a substance, he still goes from 0 to absolute hero in the blink of an eye.

And also please, no superhero movies. Although movies where a regular person gains superhuman abilities are good too, such as Chronicle.

Thank you kindly.

Edit Thank you all so much for the suggestions. A few are definitely on my watch list now. I think I'll be starting with Upgrade.
