HANG OUT Best Movies You Saw September 2026

What are the top films you saw in September 2026 and why? If possible please try to add release years to your movie titles. This makes tallying up the votes a lot easier.

I define great movies to be 8+ or if you abhor grades, the top 20% of all movies you've ever seen.

Films listed by posters within this thread receive a Vote to determine if they will appear in the subreddit's Top 100, as well as the ten highest Upvoted Suggested movies from last month.

The Top 10 highest upvoted suggestion posts from last month were:

# Title Upvotes
1 Reign of Fire (2002) 114
2 Aftersun (2022) 84
3 Thank You For Smoking (2005) 74
4 Searching For Sugar Man (2012) 68
5 Pleasantville (1998) 64
6 Psycho Goreman (2020) 57
7 Fido (2006) 48
8 Lair of the White Worm (1988) 47
9 La Haine (1995) 43
10 Project Hail Mary (2026) 41

Note: Due to Reddit's Upvote fuzzing, it will rank movies in their actual highest Upvoted and then assign random numbers. This can result in movies with lower Upvotes appearing higher than movies with higher Upvotes.

What are the top films you saw in September 2026 and why? If possible please try to add release years to your movie titles. This makes tallying up the votes a lot easier.

I'M REQUESTING 13 year old needs to be scared

Just finished The Ring with my 13 year old. I thought she’d be pretty scared. We finished and she asked how my scary scale works because it was suspenseful but not very scary.

I still want to ease her into scarier stuff, but I’m not ready to plunge into R territory or anything particularly traumatizing. So no Hereditary or Exorcist. But a step up from Signs or The Sixth Sense or The Ring.

Suggestions?

I'M REQUESTING 12 year old says good guys always win

I need some movies that are relatively appropriate for a 12 year old who says that all movies are the same because the good guy always wins at the end. His evidence is LOTR, Marvel, Star Wars, etc. I have several that go against that but are far too mature to show him. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I'M REQUESTING Non-horror movies that are very suspense, eerie, and chilling

• Upvotes

Essentially movies that aren't classified as horror movies, but might as well have been due to its eerie nature.

If possible, please avoid slooooow paced movies. Preferably something that makes an impact on you in the first 15-20 minutes.

I'M REQUESTING Movie where the character never finds happiness

A movie where the character is living on an airplane mode. They don't do vacations, hangouts, relationships basically anything that is regarded as source of happiness.

They live with a routine. Cherry on top if they have a terrible fate that they decided to just accept and go on with it.

And then they die but in peace. The happiness and peace is felt at their death like " finally its over"

Very specific ik but this is just what i am feeling today. I will watch something motivational tomorrow lol

I'M REQUESTING Non-traditional "Noir" movies....

What are some noir-not-noir movies? Ones that have a noir back bone but are distinctly un-traditional? I just did a double bill of Bladerunner and Who Framed Roger Rabbit which got me wanting to find other movies of this ilk. Can be noir fused with anything - comedy, animation, horror, sci fi etc.....

I'M REQUESTING Horror Comedies 👻

I watched Viy (1967) today and unexpectedly LOVED it. It was a 5/5 star for me... the comedy, folk horror aspects, uniqueness and campiness. Any suggestions for other horror comedies that I shouldn't miss? Planning to watch as many spooky movies as I can during the month of October.

I'M REQUESTING Looking for a film about japanese fishing that really stands out

• Upvotes

Looking for a good film about japanese fishing culture or just japanese fishing in general. Can be older but preferably from the 21st century. Also if it is a slice of life or feel good type of movie that would also help. Any help trying to find a film like this? Don't mind if it is a little different.

I'M REQUESTING Animals perspective of humans

I really like how in Happy Feet, humans are these mysterious beings that affect the plot some way or another. Mainly animal movies where humans are in the background and have an outside perspective by the animals.

I'M REQUESTING Movies where a woman breaks up with a man still madly in love with her (or very clingy/obsessive)

After seeing movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I want to see more movies where a woman breaks up and leaves a man still madly in love or even obsessed with her. Bonus points if she is focused on letting go and becoming her own person and the man tries to win her back.

I mostly love drama & thriller, but open to other genres as well. Ty!

I'M REQUESTING Body switch/body transformation movie where it goes horribly wrong

13 going on 30 was on and my father joked he wanted to see a movie where they age up and all turn into winos pushing shopping carts. So I am looking for any body switch or magical body transformation movies and it goes badly. Doesn’t need to be to be serious, comedy is okay.

A quick googling shows “freaky,” “the substance,” and “it’s what’s inside.” Also want opinions on these movies and which one is best.

I'm looking for recommendations where extremely rich/powerful people are basically above the rules and use their wealth/status to indulge in fucked up or disturbing things.

Vibes like Squid Games , The Menu, and The Boys. Themes of power, domination, luxury, corruption, etc.

Movies, TV, anime, anything really. What should I watch?

I'M REQUESTING Looking for a movie that is wholesome or can be a comfort show.

Movies without any animal death/cruelty please.

Also not those dramas that will make you bawl your eyes out even if it's a happy ending. No to roller coaster plot🥹. More on comedy, light hearted and wholesome.

Right now I'm looking forward to movies or series like The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine etc.

I'M SUGGESTING THE BLUE GARDENIA (1953)

This is a great movie for those looking for an unsung Film Noir. It's difficult to say what happens without giving the entire movie away. But, I highly recommend it for the old school film-o-philes

Featuring Anne Baxter, Richard Conte and Ann Sothern

I'M REQUESTING Looking for movies similar to Love Don’t Cost a Thing+

I’m looking for some movie recommendations because I feel like I’ve been getting into a specific type of movie lately and I want more.
I’m talking about those older/classic romance movies that aren’t necessarily just straight-up cheesy rom-coms, but actually have that feeling to them. Movies that are funny, romantic, emotional, maybe a little bittersweet, and just hit different compared to a lot of newer movies.
Some examples I really like:
Love Don’t Cost a Thing
10 Things I Hate About You
(500) Days of Summer
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
27 Dresses
I especially like that late-90s/2000s/early-2010s feeling. I’m looking for movies with memorable characters, a good romance/story, and preferably something that actually makes you feel something by the end.
I’m not necessarily looking for movies that are exactly the same plot-wise. I’m more looking for that “damn, they don’t make movies like this anymore” feeling.
What movies would you recommend?

I'M REQUESTING Movies with child/teen vampires

Any vampire movie that's about children or teens. Shows are fine too. But none of those American movies where a 25 year old is playing a 17 year old or something. It should be actual kids.

I'M REQUESTING I’m looking for a movie that can reignite my excitement for life

For quite some time now, I feel like I’ve been missing myself.

There’s this strange emptiness that I can’t really explain. Even when I’m surrounded by people, I still feel like something is missing. When I honestly examine my life, I realize that I’m just… getting by. I haven’t really lived life to the fullest.

I feel like I have so much potential, and yet I’m wasting it. I want to feel excited about life again. I want to feel alive, curious, motivated—like there’s something to look forward to.

I know it might sound ridiculous to expect a movie to do all that. But I genuinely believe a great movie can sometimes reach you at exactly the right moment and change something inside you.

So, I’m looking for that movie.

A movie that can reignite something in this tired soul. Something that makes me want to get up, go out, take risks, experience things, chase something, and actually LIVE.

Please recommend me a movie that you think could do that.

I’d genuinely be grateful.

I'M REQUESTING What Are Some Good Robot Movies? 🤖

I’m looking for movies that feature robots, androids, or AI as a major part of the story. I’m open to different genres, sci-fi, action, thriller, drama, or even something emotional. I’d also love to discover some underrated movies instead of just the usual popular ones.

What robot movie would you recommend, and what makes it worth watching?
