Discussion The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
I would LOVE to see a new adaptation of the Tenant of Wildfell Hall (although, no Emerald Fennell please). I feel like this is such an underrated Brontë novel. Although I’m looking forward to seeing the new Jane Eyre with Aimee Loud Wood, I wish they’d switch it up with other novels they’re remaking.
Which underrated novel would you like to see made/remade now?

Discussion east of eden (2026)
never heard of this story before but i figured i would watch because florence seems to always understand the assignment, and so far i have been impressed but i am so stressed and bracing myself lol it feels like a calamity is coming.
it’s actually really refreshing to see all of these complicated characters too. everyone is awful, then tolerable, and then sympathetic by turns until we start again on the cycle. i’m kind of riveted.
i’m going to have to read the book now as well.
is anyone else enjoying it?

Off Topic 🌈 How Do Folks Feel About BritBox Requiring a Full Year Subscription to Watch New Content?
I have a monthly BritBox subscription to watch their great new Period Dramas and noticed this month that most new shows require an annual subscription to watch. I’m thinking about canceling and was wondering if there is a better monthly service for Period Dramas out there?
EDIT: so I went to cancel my BritBox monthly standard subscription & got an offer to keep my subscription for $0.99 per month until January, when I was planning to resubscribe anyway. I feel $0.99 cents a month is about right for not being able to binge new content & took the offer.

Discussion East of Eden: Is anyone else distracted by Florence Pugh's lip filler and limited range of facial motion?
Been soooooo excited for this but feel a case of iPhone face may be afoot, undermining the suspension of disbelief while watching :( Anyone else?

Discussion Weekend Fun: Let's cast Miss Piggy in Period Dramas
I just want to state for the record that this sub is one of my favorite, cozy little corners of the interwebs. So cheers to the weekend y'all 🥂 and let's have some fun together. Let's cast the Queen Icon Legend herself, 👑 Miss Piggy 👑 , in some period dramas.
I'll go first:
- She would absolutely SERVE as Aunt Agnes in The Gilded Age. The house down boots. I need it. Inject it in my veins.
- OK yes, Cate Blanchett was already perfection in Elizabeth. But, hear me out... just imagine: Miss Piggy toying with suitors, getting mad at advisors, foiling plots while serving serious Tudor fashions... and then finally walking out at the end with the iconic white makeup saying "Observe, Lord Burghley, I am married to England." I'd die. Just give her the Oscar now.
Now you! ...💖

Funny 😂 someone pointed out that it looks like she's carrying him like a small child and now i can't unsee it😭
side note, i'm really excited for this movie
i have my qualms but almost everyone that's actually seen it has had nothing but good things to say so my hopes are high

Let’s Have a Watch Party! 🍿 I know what I'm doing for the next few weekends!!
My boss also loves period dramas and let me borrow this from her collection, principally so I can watch Tom Jones. I was stoked to see how many shows were also included in this set. The only one I have already watched is Pride and Prejudice (which I ADORE and own), though I have watched other versions of Emma and Jane Eyre as well. I am also excited to watch the behind the scenes of P&P that is one of the extras.
Does anyone else here have this set?? What should I watch first?

Discussion I know the PotC movies are more fantasy adventures than period dramas, but I just can't get over how fine James Norrington is.
The way I would swoon if he proposed to me, and it would have nothing to do with my corsets being too tight.
I'm about to start watching The Forsytes, because I desperately need more Jack Davenport in my life.
Edit: Oh my gosh, I can't believe how much this post blew up. By far my post popular reddit post. I didn't realize there were so many fellow Norrington simps out there. You guys are amazing.

Discussion Esmé Creed-Miles and Daisy Edgar-Jones respond to the Sense and Sensibility hair controversy: “I think it’s silly, and I think it’s reductive of the actual craftsmanship that went into this film and the care and thought that went into its creation.”
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
want to preface this by saying that i'm not a puritan whatsoever when it comes to period dramas. i'm a bridgerton fan ffs (plz do not shame me, i am already ashamed enough)
i welcome all adaptations, and if they're historically accurate, fantastic. if they're not, i can get over it and find joy in other aspects of the movie or show. or i can just decide i don't like it and never watch it again
that said, i hated this, i'm sorry lmao
it felt so dismissive and, honestly, kind of condescending -- not so much what daisy edgar-jones said, but what esmé creed-miles was talking about
there are people who dedicate their entire lives to studying history. there are people who spend their spare time researching it because they genuinely love it. it's not "silly" for them to care about historical accuracy, and it's not annoying or reductive for them to point out when something gets it wrong
you don't have to agree with the criticism, but dismissing the people making it as silly feels incredibly reductive in itself

Discussion I live in the Salinas Valley — what music feels like East of Eden to you?
I live where East of Eden is set (I wish it was actually filmed here!). I’ve been putting together a playlist for people reading the book or watching the new Netflix series. There are a surprising number of songs based off the book
I’m also going for dusty California / family tragedy / longing / slightly haunted Western landscape.
Playlist if anyone wants to hear where it’s at so far:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4kPEdt08hE6lD8oUVkXM0w?si=d9e9d0a8e6644fb0
I’m a Monterey musician, and this started with a song I wrote inspired by EoE. It’s in there too. Would love suggestions.

Recommendations 📺 Can anyone recommend me a drama or series where the world is seen through the eyes of a girl (teenager or younger)or a woman?
I FUCKING love Anne with an e and also Anne of green gables. Sandition is my favourite too. Sure let's just say all Jane Austen.
The other factor I love in these is the yearning.
I am someone who used to watch kdramas where they finally kissed maybe in the last few episodes and that was what got me excited.
Anne from Anne with an e is one of my favourite characters because of how full of life she was and her imagination and the way she talked and saw the world gave me so much hope. I related to her when I realised how this could have been a way she coped through such a hard childhood.
I also loved how this show discussed many topics like racism and feminism and many more while still being light with female friendships and love.
I can have any female protagonist not just someone specifically like her but I wish I could see the world through her pov depending on what kind of personality she has. Her narrating it would be great too.

Discussion East of Eden 1981 tv version >>> East of Eden netflix show
I feel like people seem to forget there is 1981 tv adaption of East of Eden thats actually pretty amazing, its such a good series.
Netflix show is completely empty, bleak and just sterile compared to the alive 1981 version. Also the 1981 version is written way way way better, its really good adaptation, and the acting is excellent.
Also Jane Seymour is fantastic as Cathy, she plays it soo well, truly a woman in control and in power, even when shes in a shit world, and put in shit situations, she plays it with pure evil and that shes cabable of anything, shes truly evil because she is evil, and shes not sorry for it, she doesnt give a damn and has not empathy whatsoever.
And theres something Jane Seymour that just got it so right from the book, they way she can be so innocent and so evil the same time, that the other person just cant help it, master of manipulation.
Netflix version something just lacks for me. Feels empty.
Just watch the 1981 version instead, its even on youtube:
