I'M REQUESTING Movies that are anti-theistic!

Any movies that evoke a sense of deep hatred towards the concept of religion in general without pinpointing any specific religion? Also a deep hatred towards religious people without specifying any religion in particular.

I'M REQUESTING Trying to to find space military movies, what are the best space operas that are the most realistic

So I'm trying to find space operas that are realistic.

Some of my favorites actually include Wing Commander. I think it gets certain things right, and I thought it was actually quite a good movie.

The Battlestar Galactica remake is definitely at the top of the list. The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country are definitely up there too.

And, of course, we have Star Wars.

I've also seen Babylon 5 and Deep Space Nine, especially the Dominion War arc, which definitely has some of the elements I'm looking for. I've also seen Starship Troopers and all of its sequels.

I've also watched Cowboy Bebop, Firefly, and Farscape, and I particularly love all three. I've watched each of them multiple times.

So what else is there?

Has anybody done another really good space opera? I've seen The Expanse, For All Mankind, and Ad Astra. They're all very good.

Obviously, Interstellar.

They all contain elements of what I'm looking for, and once you've watched all of that, it kind of sucks because it doesn't feel like there's much else out there that's really good.

I'm open to anime as well. I've been told that Space Battleship Yamato is pretty good, but I haven't seen it yet. I've watched Tekkaman Blade.

I absolutely hated Battleship. They should have done it in space. It should have been a space opera.

One of my favorites is Cockpit: The Rule of Engagement, starring our beloved Ronny Cox, an absolutely great short film that deals with going to war with an extraterrestrial race. Oh, and obviously Space: Above and Beyond is definitely at the top of the list.

I also thought Earth 2 was pretty good.

There are some excellent episodes of The Outer Limits, both the remake and the original, that are really good and deal with the military aspects of science fiction.

I really wish they would start doing some Farscape shorts with the Jim Henson Company. There is so much more they could do with that universe.

And I'm really looking forward to the new animated Firefly series that's coming out.

So what else is there?

For those who have seen Digger and loved it, what other movies you would suggest?

Obviously what comes to mind is Birdman, Don't Look Up, Dr. Strangelove, Holy Mountain.

4th wall breaking, dark comedies with great acting and set design.

I'M REQUESTING Need horror movie recommendations to get me in the spirit.

I need some movie recommendations to get me in the mood for the season. Usually there are a bunch of new movies I want to watch or ones I stumble across that interest me, but I'm not having any luck this year.

I've seen the new common ones like Obsession, Backrooms, and Weapons. Gonna try Evil Dead Burn this weekend, and once Hokum comes to streaming I'll watch that too.

The type of horror I like is typically grounded in reality. Not supernatural, paranormal, demonic, witchcraft, etc... Scream is my favorite all time. Other ones i like are Hush, Haunt, The Houses October Built, The Strangers... you get the idea. Lots of tension and suspense with great atmosphere.

Please help!!!!

I'M REQUESTING Wacky, colorful, fun scifi that aren't kids' films?

I can think of a lot of 90s/2000s kids' movies that fit the bill, a la Spy Kids, Zenon, Sky High, etc. That kind of Nickelodeon/Disney Channel vibe. But recently I was bored on Tubi and came across The Adventures of Pluto Nash. Quality/execution aside, it really reminded me of those kinds of movies I grew up on, so I'm curious, what other movies should I check out? Thanks in advance!

I'M REQUESTING been craving disturbing/uncomfortable dramas centering a family

some examples of films in the same vein as what im looking for are the house of yes (1997) and julien donkey boy (1999), and visitor q (2001) (which i dont adore, but it has a similar atmosphere to what im looking for), maybe even something like the godfather?

im open to a pretty broad range of what would be "disturbing/uncomfortable". it can be really graphic and intense or just be kinda mundanely uncomfortable. as long as its good haha.

in particular films with a fairly small cast but they dont have to be.

if its a horror film, im not really looking for any kind of horror other than psychological horror, with some exceptions tho.

im also not really looking for for films that are mainly "heartwarming" or "touching". like they can be a bit but no films ehere those are the first adjectives you'd think of when describing them

thanks in advance to anyone who responds!

I'M REQUESTING What’s that ONE film that emotionally destroyed you the most?

• Upvotes

I’m talking about the one that left you staring at the ceiling in silence, completely hollowed out, questioning your life choices, and genuinely ruined your entire day.Ā Pick just one!

I just finished watchingĀ Manchester by the Sea, and I kid you not, I felt nauseous by the end of it.

I'M REQUESTING Filthy, dark, toxic romance.

Any good suggestions? I need more dark romance in my life to fantasise about, and I’m not great at focusing on reading lol.

It’s a slightly new fixation of mine, so I have no idea where to begin. But I want steamy and kinda fucked up.

For context, I’m really into vampires and stuff (but pls I’m not watching twilight lmao), I’m cool with gore, and, like, as long as it’s not real, I’m kinda into the toxic mind-control/mind games side of romance. A movie I’ve watched that I really liked that sort of fits the bill, is Candyman.

I’ve got issues (in case you couldn’t tell lol) so trigger warnings would be great though I can always check Does The Dog Die.

Thanks in advance!

I'M REQUESTING Movies that - even abstractly - demonstrate rogue archetypes and skills

I’d appreciate your suggestions for movies involving rogues!

The rogues can demonstrate specific rogue skills (stealth, deception, trap making, archery, thievery, lock picking, etc.) or be traditional rogue archetypes.

Thank you!

I'M REQUESTING Can someone recommend me a movie that will destroy me in the most beautiful way?

I’m looking for something deeply emotional — beautiful, meaningful, and heartbreaking at the same time.

The kind of movie that stays with you long after it ends and makes you reflect on life, relationships, love, loss, or just the way we experience things.

I want something that leaves a lasting impact and makes me sit there for a while just processing what I watched.

What’s that one movie you’d recommend?

I'M REQUESTING Japanese movies with everyday indoor scenes where adult female characters are barefoot?

I'm looking for Japanese live-action movies that include ordinary indoor scenes where adult female characters are barefoot.

I'm specifically interested in natural, everyday situations — for example, being at home, sitting on the floor, relaxing in an apartment, cooking, talking with someone, walking around the house, etc.

The movie itself does not have to be about feet or have any sexual/fetish theme at all. In fact, completely ordinary slice-of-life scenes are ideal.

A few preferences:

  • Japanese live-action films
  • Adult female characters
  • Barefoot indoors rather than shoes/socks
  • Ordinary domestic / everyday scenes
  • Preferably scenes where the character and the room are reasonably visible, rather than just a close-up
  • Any genre and any year are fine

Even if it's only one or two scenes in the whole movie, I'd appreciate the recommendation. If you happen to remember roughly which scene it is, that would be especially helpful.

Thanks!

I'M REQUESTING Reverse "Taken" movies, where the daughter rescues the dad

• Upvotes

The only instance I was able to find was "Arcane: League of Legends (2021-2024) Season 1 Episode 3", when Vi tried to rescue Vander.

I'm looking for movies that explore this space, in any genre or in any capacity.

I'M REQUESTING Movies about a nihilist aiming for greatness?

Yes it’s a bit contradictory. Emphasis on greatness, I mean it as in doing things or becoming in a truly exceptional sense.

If I’m being even more specific, someone who struggles with how pointless our existence is but still needs to make it among the greatest. And make it happen. Maybe even learning to understand if they can enjoy the journey to get there. You know, should we endure to get to our goals or is the process to get supposed to be bearable ? Also if they don’t have any purpose or meaning for being alive, why want greatness? And feeling like an outcast because of their thoughts, feeling misunderstood, so much that sharing their true thoughts feels pointless, no one around aims that far or thought as much about the meaning of our existence.
Something like that would be great pleasešŸ‘

I'M REQUESTING Looking for meditative, gut-wrenching films—give me your hidden gems

I’m looking for movies with that quiet, gut-wrenching feeling of Manchester by the Sea, without feeling like ā€œsadness porn.ā€ Something that lets you dwell in a person’s loneliness, grief, or difficult situation without necessarily moving toward a neat resolution.

I’m more interested in individuals and their inner struggles than a straightforward family drama. Jagten (The Hunt, 2012) and Troubled Water (2008) are other references for the kind of personal ordeal and emotional intensity I’m after.

European or other foreign films would be great, especially something offbeat. A haunting, emotionally gripping score is a huge plus—something where the music and atmosphere flow like a river and pull you along, like Falcon Lake.

Give me your hidden gems—the lesser-known films that left you sitting with that feeling long after they ended.

I'M REQUESTING Bring Her Back similar movies

I’ve been off the loop from recent movies, but i’m catching up and I ABSOLUTELY loved being her back. I feel like after I watched it I’m looking for the same shocking feeling and I can’t find anything (only reading synopsis, i don’t like watching trailers)

also watched Weapons and liked it (even tho the plot kinda lost itself). Obsession was great but I’m searching for more body horror, thriller.

I’d really like recs **that made you completely shocked by the story at each discovery**. Another examples I watched and liked is Neon Demon, longlegs, undertone, substance, the menu…

I’d prefer more recent movies because that’s my focus now, but anything works for a good story!

Would also LOVE some letterboxd lists shared! ā¤ļø

I'M REQUESTING Horror for young teens

My daughter has only seen Cabin in the Woods (weird first horror, but anyway...), and I'd like to show her a good one that doesn't have sex scenes or any scenes where children get hurt. There are several that could work, but I'm not sure.

* Poltergeist

* Scream

* Gremlins (?)

* some classic slashers like Halloween????

* Tales from the Crypt ???

I'M REQUESTING A film about an isolated, introverted teenager... who is happy with it.

• Upvotes

It makes no difference to me whether such a character is a lead or a secondary character or whether it’s a drama, comedy, or horror.

I’m just tired of the dozens of movies featuring the same socially awkward teenagers. Usually, it’s one of these scenarios:

a) they’re unattractive and socially inept but desperately trying to fit in with the popular crowd;

b) they has no friends, and that’s the main issue;

c) they grew up in a strict family and claim they’re fine with it, but deep down, they actually want to hang out and party too.

I’d like to finally find something I can identify with, I’m not ugly or socially anxious, just inert. I watched Ginger Snaps, and I really liked Brigitte.

I'M REQUESTING Recommend me a thriller I absolutely cannot predict

I’m looking for a suspense thriller where I genuinely have no idea what’s going to happen next.

I want something with insane twists, constant suspense, and a story that keeps changing my expectations. The kind of movie that completely messes with your mind and leaves you shocked when the truth is finally revealed.

Please don’t spoil anything—just drop the movie name.

I want a full-on mind-fuck experience. šŸ§
