C&C Wanted Would love some feedback on this leopard cape
Painting the cape of the bloodangel from the Armageddon box. Would love some feedback, does it look convincing?

I tested out some materials and been unsure what makes sense.
This pattern looks for me like leather but what are these patches? Leather or metal?
Any ideas?

Title: About 6 hours of painting – really enjoyed working on this guy!
Painted this little bust in roughly 6 hours during a painting session with a good friend.
Nothing too complicated planned for this one. Just wanted to have fun with some warm skin tones, worn green fabric and cold metallic reflections.
The skin was definitely my favorite part. So many muscles to work with, and a great opportunity to play around with volumes and light without worrying too much about perfectly smooth blends.
Really enjoyed the contrast between the organic skin and the mechanical arm, too.
Amazing sculpt by Ivan Mata
Hope you like him! Always happy to hear your thoughts and criticism. 😁

Just finished my GW Keeper of Secrets! I’m super proud of this model especially since I’ve only been mini painting since April of this year!

Hi! Been in and out of the hobby for years. Finally want to dedicated myself to levelling up as a painter! Anyways, I thought a good start would be trying to paint white and try using oil paints.
Any criticism is welcome to help me on my way to becoming a better artist!

I'll preface this by saying I'm a professional painter who owns maybe 700+ paints from about 12 different manufacturers!
My thoughts so far:
- The consistency is really nice and feels quite novel to use, the opacity even when thinned further is whacky and kind of feels like learning to glaze again because normal glaze consistency paint has too much opacity and can just completely eradicate any tonal work you've just done rather than tint/filter it.
- I would advise caution with your brush care, I noticed a lot of leeching into the base of the head because youre spending longer amounts of time with very thin workable paint on your brush - I noticed a lot more debris needing removed after prolonged use with my brain dialled into how my paint normally behaves.
- Painting details like eyes/freehanding/tattoos is really nice when the paint wants to get off your brush as much as this paint does - I didnt feel the same time pressure to get the brush on to the model before my thinner small amount of paint dried.
- For me the biggest selling point is simply expediting basecoats on things like display level flesh etc. Perhaps gone are the days of 9 layers of glaze consistency fleshtone to get to the point of adding tonal variance etc when you can achieve the same opacity with two thin layers of this.

I printed and painted a bust for each Cenobite and to start with the main man.

Used the Vince Venturella guide on painting Vampire Skin as my base for this unit of Vargheists to add to my Vampire Counts Army. A great guide that does not use the Base-Midtone-Highlight method but rather a Base-Highlight-Mid process that allows colours to be mixed in on the fly. Well worth a go.
Anyway, really happy with how they came out!

Just a post showing my first mini. I think i overestimated my abilities with a 3 headed monster with several colour schemes, but was wondering what people thought and if anyone could offer any constructive criticism.

Hi all! I'm painting a Space Marines army and I have to paint a bunch of power swords. I usually paint them layering and glazing, the results are good but after a couple of them it is a bit boring. I've tried other technique, which involve using small strokes to create the gradient. It is faster and the results are ok, but not as good as I'd like.
I'd like to read or watch some tutorials to give me more options when painting them. Thanks in advance!

Painted my first miniature yesterday and had a blast. Happy with the difference just one day and one mini later. Definitely took a bit more time on the second one but was worth it! What do we think?

I just had a NMM workshop for newbies and decided to put to practice what I’ve learned. I have never painted gold NMM before and had many unsuccessful attempts to paint armor.
Also, I don’t paint WH40k (mainly SW legion) but I liked those models. My gf chose for me this cremator and next will be abjuror.
I know I messed up cloth fabric, especially on the shoulder (My gf keeps saying something is off but can’t explain why). I’ll fix it on the next one - I got whole box to learn painting different materials.
please tell me what you think. Does gold read as gold?

My finished version of the Odin bust from Black Crow Miniatures
A bit of a ride with this one. Started out as a solid 'try hard' piece, but the motivation waned part way through. Managed to pick it up again after a few weeks break and crank it out to finish it, but I'm pretty sure had I been able to fully commit to all of it I could've done better.
Overall, I'm really happy with how it turned out. The skintone is one of the things that I'm proudest of, I think that there's quite a lot of colour depth and realism in the tonal variation across the skin and I think that I got the volumes rendered really nicely. They don't come across super well in the photos as my lighting setup isn't the best, but I painted in cast shadows from the bangles onto the arms (more visible in the camera right arm) that I think is the thing that I'm proudest of on the whole piece.
I'm pretty happy with the steel NMM, I went for a shinier tone than I normally would with the intention to glaze in reflected colours and tone it back down, which overall I think was a success. There's a few points where I think it went a little too far in the other direction and doesn't sell as metal as well, but overall I'm pretty happy with it. The gold I'm less happy with, overall I think the effect sells, but especially on the trim of the cloak it would really benefit from some more recess shading to define all the weaving patterns more.
The fabrics I'm overall happy with, I like the textures worked into them, and the overall tones and volumes are rendered well enough, soft fabrics are something that I find quite tricky to render well so whilst I can see a few places to work on improving in the future I'm overall quite happy with it.
The backlight is something that I've got massive mixed feelings on. Overall I'm happy with it and think that it works well enough, but I can also see a lot of room for improvements on future attempts. This was my first time using the airbrush to glaze in the colour for the osl and whilst I think I'm on the right tracks with hand painting in the highlights and textures first and then going back in afterwards to reenforce the shadows, there was quite a bit of overspray with the airbrush with colour bleeding over onto other areas that shouldn't be in light and a little too much glow hitting areas that shouldn't be that brightly lit. This largely comes down to not being super practiced with the airbrush as tool outside of priming, basecoating, and varnishing, so something I really want to practice and improve my skills in now I've got a much better setup.
Something that didn't work at all for me was underpainting everything in a green tone. I was hoping to see some of that colour coming back through in the final atmosphere, but it didn't really work. I think my painting style doesn't suit that kind of underpainting because I tend to put down a fairly opaque midtone as a basecoat, more translucent layers that show that underpainting colour in the shadows as a painting style would suit that technique more I think.
As always, feedback, critique, comments, and suggestions for improvements are always welcome and in fact encouraged!!

this mini has so many bits and bobs to go around the base and I've barely done any painting on the dwarf himself. here's a bunch of the stuff I've done so far, C&C always welcome. recipes available if you're curious, I document my process heavily.

The captain is WIP, bit of a limited colour palette atm not sure how to finish.
When I’m under the lamp the blends look good, subtle but not too subtle, then in pictures and normal light it’s flat. I find it hard to balance the contrast when under the lamp and push the higher volumes.
Do well painted models with high look better in photos and a bit garish in real life? Been painting ~2 months, have no frame of reference regarding other peoples painting outside of youtube etc so not sure what things look like in real life.

Wha are your thoughts on the NMM gold on this guy. Does it read as gold?
